Wild Atlantic Way - The Flaggy Shore, County Clare, Ireland
And some time make the time to drive out west
Into County Clare, along the Flaggy Shore,
In September or October, when the wind
And the light are working off each other
So that the ocean on one side is wild
With foam and glitter, and inland among stones
The surface of a slate-grey lake is lit
By the earthed lightning of a flock of swans,
Their feathers roughed and ruffling, white on white,
Their fully grown headstrong-looking heads
Tucked or cresting or busy underwater.
Useless to think you’ll park and capture it
More thoroughly. You are neither here nor there,
A hurry through which known and strange things pass
As big soft buffetings come at the car sideways
And catch the heart off guard and blow it open.

Twelve Minutes of Peace from The Flaggy Shore, Co. Clare, Ireland.
23 April 2017, 0730hrs facing east, with Aughinish in the distance, Galway to the far left across Galway Bay. Aughinish was connected to the Co. Clare coast until the Lisbon Earthquake of 1755 caused a Tsunami that spread up the Atlantic, sweeping in waves that carved a channel through the low-lying land. The remaining channel lead to the construction of what we now call New Quay on the Co. Clare side. Land access to Aughinish has since then been via a road causeway from Co. Galway, a long round-trip by road.
The channel at New Quay also boasts one of the fastest tidal flows in Ireland.
New Quay is the location of Linnane's Lobster Bar, a world-renowned eatery and local bar.
The Flaggy Shore is increasingly popular with tourists on the Wide Atlantic Way, and locals and others walking, running and cycling along this beautiful if short stretch of Atlantic coastline.
The term 'Flaggy' refers to the area of rocky shore where the rocks are in the form of flat slabs, or 'flags'. This stretch is little more than half a kilometer in length.
As you can see, the road can be very peaceful, the environment pristine, thanks to the decades of effort put in by local farmers and others. Our survival, and theirs, depends on a community-wide effort to protect our fragile environment.

I just happened to get behind this lovely vintage car, with the dash-cam switched on. As I found out afterwards, the vehicle is a 1926 Lagonda 14/60 Tourer. Excuse the dirty windscreen. Enjoy the ride.

Lucy's sad Farewell
Lucy's sad Farewell
Down to earth: Lucy Birley at home Some say that hope is a necessity for normal life and the major weapon against the suicide impulse. It is impossible to know now - or ever - but maybe Lucy Birley lost all hope when she ended her life at Mount Vernon in New Quay, Co Clare, last week at the age of 58. She was staying in her eldest brother Mark's house with only her dogs, Daisy, Peg and Daphne, for company. Lucy fought a valiant battle with depression. It was a battle she sadly lost on Monday, Ju...

THE INN at DROMOLAND COUNTY CLARE IRELAND HD 1080p
My husband and I spent two nights at THE INN at DROMOLAND COUNTY CLAIR IRELAND. The Inn is a beautiful place to stay but most important is there staff! They are so friendly and helpful. We ate at Shannigan's Pub both nights. The food is 'EXCELLENT'! Breakfast was their buffett with just about everything you could want. Service 'perfect' and very friendly. This was our first time staying at the Inn and certainly won't be out last. LOVED IT!
THANK YOU......to the 'very nice' people who 'happily' :-) put on my granddaughter Sasha Sloan's hat. :-)
