FLOWERPOT Island, Tobermory
Flowerpot Island is an island in Georgian Bay, in the Canadian province of Ontario and is a part of Fathom Five National Marine Park. The island spans 2.1 kilometres (1.3 mi) from east to west, and 1.5 kilometres (0.93 mi) from north to south, and has a total area of 2 square kilometres (490 acres). The name of the island comes from two rock pillars on its eastern shore, which look like flower pots. A third flowerpot once stood, but tumbled in 1903.[1]
Flowerpot Island is a popular tourist destination, with camping facilities and hiking trails. The island is accessible by cruises and rigid inflatable boats from Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula.

4k - Flowerpot Island Tour - Tobermory Ontario, Canada - 2016
Would you like to spend a weekend away from Toronto? Go up to the beautiful scenery of the Bruce Peninsula and do some camping, hiking, swimming, snorkeling or diving. Tobermory is the village on the north end of the Peninsula and definitely worth a visit. From there you can visit the Bruce Peninsula National Park and the Fathom Five National Marine Park. One of the biggest tourist attractions it the flower pot island in Lake Huron. Get on one of the Glasbottom Boats from Bruca Anchor Boat Cruises and see not only the Flowerpot but also have a look at the Shipwrecks along the coast. Theses Shipwrecks make Tobermory to one of the best diving spots in Canada. I would also suggest to stay on the flower pot Island for a while, so you can make a walk through the woods and go for a swim in the beautiful turquoise water of Lake Ontario.

Flowerpot Island in Tobermory, Ontario (Canada) 2015
Just 6.5 kilometers off the coast of Tobermory lies Flowerpot Island, one of Canada's most fascinating natural attractions. Flowerpot Island is famous for its natural sea stacks, the flowerpots, as well as its caves, historic lightstation and variety of rare plants. Accesible only by hiking trails. It is a great place to spend half or a full day exploring the island, viewing the scenery, picniking or swimming.
Flowerpot Island | Tobermory, Ontario
We headed to Tobermory Ontario for a day trip to Flowerpot Island. Tobermory is located in the Bruce Peninsula area and is surrounded by crystal clear blue waters. Flowerpot Island is a small island with flowerpot rock formations, and is part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park. The island hosts a hiking trail, historic light house, and 2 flowerpot features. It also has campsites if you're feeling adventurous and want to spend the night.
We got to the island with Blue Heron Cruises, who offer a plethora of round trips to and from the island daily. We took the speed boat to and from the island, however, scenic trips are also offered. On one leg of your trip, the cruise will pull into a bay that houses 2 shipwrecks, both of which burned and were sunk for the safety of other boats.

5 Things to do in Tobermory, Ontario (Grotto, Flowerpot Island & Scuba Diving)
These are my carefully selected 5 things to do, what to eat and survival tips for Tobermory, Ontario. Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula are gorgeous destinations in Canada and offer some of the clearest water in the world, with places like the Grotto, Indian Head Cove and Flowerpot Island. Subscribe to my channel ► for weekly videos!
For many years I've heard rumors of a paradise north of Toronto, so last weekend I decided to go check it out. Tobermory and the Bruce Peninsula are gorgeous destinations in Canada and offer some of the clearest water in the world with visibility that easily reaches depths up to 25 meters.
Download my FREE Toberymory map:
The 4-hour drive can be a bit steep but luckily it is a comfortable drive with many valley's and towns on the way to keep you inspired. Crucial things to consider are: bring enough gas (there are not many gas stations on the peninsula), bring swim-gear/scuba gear & bring crocks.
1. Shipwreck Diving
Best scuba diving spot in Canada.
2. Fish & Chip Place
Best fish & chips in Canada.
3. Flowerpot Island
Raw nature at its finest, you may find snakes & large spiders on this island.
4. The Grotto
The gem on the peninsula with a hidden underwater tunnel.
5. Indian Head Cove
Gorgeous rough coastline and popular tourist attraction.
The 5 best kept secrets in Tobermory that I listed are not in chronological order but I do consider the shipwreck diving as a definite hightlight! But I'd like to remind you that advanced swimming skills are required.

At Flowerpot Island we ran into many clean-cut shaped rocks, now I have a small obsession with archeology and especially with the Yonaguni monument which some consider a man-made structure and lies deep in the east china sea off the coast of Taiwan. It is estimated to be more than 10,000 years old making it the oldest man-made structure in the world if the theory holds true, but after seeing these clean-cut slabs I start to think that Yonaguni may actually be a natural phenomenon, if you are interested, watch the documentary by Graham Hancock.
With Yonaguni being a little off topic, I do like to stress my fellow Canadians to at least make this trip once in your lifetime to really get an idea of what the province of Ontario has to offer.

BRUCE PENINSULA NATIONAL PARKS - ONTARIO
......................................................................................
Tobermory is a small community located at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula in Northern Ontario. It's also known as the “Fresh Water Scuba Diving Capital of the World” because of the numerous shipwrecks that lie in the clear blue surrounding waters. The water is also warm since it is so shallow.
Flowerpot Island is part of the Fathom Five National Marine Park. Every person visiting Flowerpot Island must have a valid Parks Canada entry pass.
The name of the island comes from two rock pillars on its eastern shore, which look like flower pots. A third flowerpot once stood but tumbled in 1903. The island is accessible by cruises and rigid inflatable boats from Tobermory on the Bruce Peninsula.
The remains of Sweepstakes lie in Big Tub Harbour, located in the Fathom Five National Marine Park, in Tobermory, Ontario. This schooner is said to be one of the most popular wrecks in the park, where it is often visited by tour boat passengers, divers, and snorkelers.
The Shipwreck Sweepstakes- The Disaster - On August 23, 1885, the Sweepstakes hit a rock near Cove Island and sank in shallow water close to the light station. The Wreck Today - The nearly intact hull of the Sweepstakes is in six meters of water, some 45 meters from the head of Big Tub Harbor.
There are few places in the world where one could experience so many well-preserved shipwrecks with such water clarity in such a small geographic footprint. The Fathom Five National National Marine Park at Tobermory alone boasts 22 shipwrecks inside its boundaries.
