Huge thank you to Fadhlur for reaching out and taking us on a Malaysian street food tour of Kuala Lumpur. It was an amazing day, and I have so much love to Malaysia as it was one of the first countries where I started making street food videos - as you’ll see in the video!
Ok, here are all the street food stalls and restaurants we ate at on this tour:
Mansion Tea Stall
The thing to order here is the roti canai special, roti that chopped up, then doused in a variety of curry sauces, sambal, and a few soft boiled eggs. It’s a perfect way to begin your day in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 2.80 RM ($0.68) per plate
Nasi Lemak Tanglin
Nasi lemak is often considered the national food of Malaysia, and there are plenty of places to eat it throughout Kuala Lumpur. Having been around since 1948, Nasi Lemak Tanglin is a place I had wanted to go for a while. It was overall very good, with a nice laid back atmosphere and surrounded by nature. Nasi lemak - about 8 RM ($1.94) per plate
Ikan Bakar Seri Melaka (Jalan Bellamy)
One of my favorite places to eat ikan bakar, grilled fish, is on Jalan Bellamy. Back in 2012, I had to hike over a highway and climb a few fences to get there as I was only on foot. In this video, I’m a bit older, and we had a car! The ikan bakar was just as good as I remember it. Total price - 68 RM ($16.51) for everything
Sri Ganapathi Mess
One of the best things about Malaysian food is its incredible diversity, including Malay, Chinese, and Indian food. Banana leaf south Indian food is very popular and I was recommended to try Sri Ganapathi Mess, a restaurant tucked away into a home. An amazing south Indian food experience in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 59 RM ($14.32) for 4 people
Kedai Kopi Lai Foong
Finally, another dish that many had recommended me was the unique clam noodles in Kuala Lumpur Chinatown at the legendary Kedai Kopi Lai Foong. It was delicious, and a perfect way to end an amazing Malaysian street food tour in Kuala Lumpur. Price - 10 RM ($2.43) per bowl
Again, thank you to Oh My Media Malaysia for taking us around:

►The BEST VPNs For China:
One thing that we both fell in love with about Malaysian cuisine, is that you could really spend a lifetime eating here tasting the local varieties of Chinese food, Indian Food, and Malay Food. With our limited amount of time on this trip, we ate non stop to sample all of the Kuala Lumpur food available. That being said, in 4 days, we barely scratched the surface of Malaysian food, there is so much more!
We visited a few famous Chinese cuisine places, a few famous Malay cuisine places, and of course some amazing Indian cuisine as well.
Below are the addresses for the Malaysian cuisine that we sampled in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:
1) Chinese Indian Food (Fish Head Curry) - PUDU CHINESE INDIAN RICE @ RESTORAN SIN HIAP KEE
2) Nasi Campur and Ikan Bakar @ Gerai Pak Lang Ikan Bakar - Kampung Baru
3) Malaysian dessert street Cendol
4) Malaysian Nasi Lemak at Village Park
5) Banana Leaf Rice at Sri Paandi in Little India (Brickfields)
6) Nasi Dagang only open on the weekends at Nasi Dagang Warung Terengganu
6) Ooi Noodle House famous Pork Noodle
7), Jalan SS 15/4b, Ss 15, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia
8)Restoran Home Cooking @ Sungai Way, PJ - near the Indian temple at Sungai Way
9) Durian at SS2 Durian Wai’s Durian
10) Dry Bak Kut Teh AKA Rougucha @ Yap Chuan Bak Kut Teh, Puchong
11) Roti Canai at Nasi Kandar Pelita

TOP 10 Must-Eats in KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia
#travelcouple #foodtour #Malaysianfood
i can't believe our time in Kl has passed by so quickly, in these 6 very short days, we have fallen in love with this colorful city, and it's people, the amalgamation of cultures is evident not only in it's architecture but in it's unique and wonderful cuisine.
The diversity of cultures has created a gastronomic symphony of flavors with a unique blend of Chinese, Indonesian and Indian influences.
Our friends, Jimmy and Tah from divert living, have put together their own video, which is awesome.
take a few moments and check their video out if you already haven't
here's our top 10 favorite foods we came across in Kuala Lumpur..
and in no particular order
#1 Roti canai is an indian influenced flat bread.. (i'm famiiar with this tasts, as it reminds me of chapatis from back home kenya.. or the indian paratha
i don't know it if was just this place, but the roti was flaky and chewy all at the same time, and so so delicious.
Restaurant Al-Ashiq
# 2 Satay.. essentially meat on a stick, lots of countries have their own take on this.. and Malaysia is no exception. This is their version of this delicious delicacy .. it can be anything from beef, chicken, goat or even tofu cooked over a wood or charcoal fire, this is usually served with a peanut and soy sauce, although each vendor may have their own special sauce.. and we found the ones we tried to be a little sweet too
Jalan Alor Night Food Court
# 3 we most certainly can not forget our banana leaf curry experience in brickfields
Restoran Sri Kortumalai
# 4 chili pan mee.. this might have gotten it's influence from china, but this is most certainly malaysian..
Tang City Food Court
# 5 the ramly burger has been sold on the streets of malaysia since 1979 It is estimated that there are over 25,000 Ramly Burger stalls nationwide, The companies aim has been developing a clean and good-quality halal Western fast-food chain in Malaysia.
seems like each vendor does it a little differently by adding their own unique spices and this guy has the burger in a yummy steamy envelope of egg
San Peng Street Burger Stall
San Peng Street Burger Stall
# 6 Cendol .. is an iced sweet dessert that contains droplets of worm-like green rice flour jelly, coconut milk and palm sugar syrup
Pavilion Kual
# 7 Nasi lemak is a Malay fragrant rice dish cooked in coconut milk and pandan leaf it is the national dish of Malaysia and a must try if you visit Malaysia.. heck even if you don't.. google your nearest Malaysian restaurant and i am sure they will have this on their menu.. we had this several time on our trip,
we even went to a food stall which was great
but we found this spot just by our airbnb which we kept coming back to because it was so good
Restaurant Al-Ashiq
# 8 start your day the tea rifik way with tea tarik...
Teh tarik (literally pulled tea) is a hot milk tea beverage
Restaurant Al-Ashiq
#9 Durian
some people love it and some people hate it.. but they say it super tasty here in maaysia, give it a try if you are in malaysia.. and if you've had the frozen kind before and don't like it .. give it another chance.. it might surprise you
or not
Jalan Alor Night Food Court
#10 Bak chang
and then we came across these little pockets of delight.. which we have come to learn are called bak chang
stall on the street in Chinatown

Street Food in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Food, Amazing Kuala Lumpur
Street Food in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur Food, Amazing Kuala Lumpur.
Kuala Lumpur (/ˈkwɑːləˈlʊmpʊər/ or /-pər/; Malaysian pronunciation: [ˈkwalə ˈlumpʊr])is the national capital and most populous global city in Malaysia. The city covers an area of 243 km2 (94 sq mi) and has an estimated population of 1.6 million as of 2010. Greater Kuala Lumpur, covering similar area as the Klang Valley, is an urban agglomeration of 7.5 million people as of 2012 It is among the fastest growing metropolitan regions in South-East Asia, in terms of population and economy.
Kuala Lumpur is the seat of the Parliament of Malaysia. The city was once home to the executive and judicial branches of the federal government, but they were moved to Putrajaya in early 1999.[9] Some sections of the judiciary still remain in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur. The official residence of the Malaysian King, the Istana Negara, is also situated in Kuala Lumpur. Rated as an alpha world city, Kuala Lumpur is the cultural, financial and economic centre of Malaysia due to its position as the capital as well as being a key city. Kuala Lumpur was ranked 48th among global cities by Foreign Policy's 2010 Global Cities Index[10] and was ranked 67th among global cities for economic and social innovation by the 2thinknow Innovation Cities Index in 2010
Kuala Lumpur is defined within the borders of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and is one of three Malaysian Federal Territories. It is an enclave within the state of Selangor, on the central west coast of Peninsular Malaysia.
Since the 1990s, the city has played host to many international sporting, political and cultural events including the 1998 Commonwealth Games and the Formula One Grand Prix. In addition, Kuala Lumpur is home to the tallest twin buildings in the world, the Petronas Twin Towers, which have become an iconic symbol of Malaysia's futuristic development.Kuih (plural: kuih-muih) are usually, but not always, bite-sized foods associated with the Malay and Min-speaking Chinese communities of Malaysia. In the context of the term being cultural as opposed to being physically descriptive, the concept of kuih may refer to a selection of cakes, cookies, confections, pastries and sweetmeats. Kuih may be eaten throughout the day for light breakfast, afternoon tea (a tradition adopted from the British), as a snack and increasingly as an after meal course.
More often steamed or fried and based on rice or glutinous rice, kuih items are very different in texture, flavour and appearance from Western oven-baked cakes or puff pastries. Most kuih items are sweet, and may be classified and eaten as desserts, but some are also savoury. Kuih is an important feature for festive occasions and is traditionally made at home, but are now available for purchase from home caterers, street hawker vendors, market stallholders and specialist cafes, shops and restaurants. It is difficult to distinguish between kuih of Malay or Peranakan (also known as Straits Chinese) origin because the histories of traditional kuih recipes have not been well-documented, and cross-cultural influencing over the centuries were commonplace. Even the word kuih itself is derived from the Hokkien/Teochew word 粿 (pronounced kueh or kway).

The City:
Kuala Lumpur is one of the most interesting destination in the region. With its incredible skyscrapers and new architecture, to its colonial houses and buildings, Kuala Lumpur has a lot to offer. Besides the amazing architectural landscape, you can also enjoy some very unique natural attractions along the way. The city is divided into several districts, its main area is called the Golden Triangle which covers Bukit Bintang, KLCC and Chinatown. Among its more well-known landmarks, you can find Petronas Twin Towers (the world’s tallest twin skyscrapers), Petaling Street flea market, and Batu Caves, which is over 400 million years old.
Malaysian food:
Influenced by Thai, Chinese, Indonesian and Indian cuisine, the use of spices is very common in kind of dishes. The food is generally spicy, with herbs and spices from India, middle Eastern and Chinese regions. Rice is also very common. Besides that, and unknown to many, Malaysia also produces amazing traditional desserts, including layered rice flour and coconut sweets. One of the most popular desserts is called Kueh Bahulu, which is a small sponge cake dipped in black coffee.
Tapak Urban Street Dining:
Tapak Urban Street Dining is located in Jalan Ampang, and it is becoming one of the most popular dining place in the entire city. If you want to hang out with your friends, enjoy some great fast food and admire the city, Tapak Urban Street Dining is the place to go.
If you are a food truck fan, this is a place you'd like to be.
Operating daily from 6pm to midnight, the food at TAPAK is a gastronomic delight. Easily accommodating 200 patrons at any one time, it is a fabulous place to chill with family and friends.

Malaysian Street Food Tour in Kuala Lumpur
Glad you love Malaysian street food too! Get my free street food guide here:
Malaysian street food is amazingly delicious and Kuala Lumpur is full of food everywhere you look!
The first dish in the video is known as Nasi Campur, a truly delightful Malaysian street food that consists of a giant plate of rice accompanied by an assortment of various side dishes. I chose fish curry, chili tofu and a bunch of other delicious vegetables and garnished.
Next I stopped at a famous place near Little India in Kuala Lumpur to eat an Ikan Bakar grilled fish. It was grilled in some kind of chili sauce and served with a limey chili sauce that was absolutely spectacular.
When it began to rain, I decided to drink a cup of milk tea teh tarik, one of the most famous beverages in Malaysia.
The next meal was at Hameed's a restaurant specializing in Indian style Malaysian street food known as Nasi Kandar. Along with a plate of rice covered in curries, I aslo ordered a plate of biryani, and a side of tandoori chicken and plan naan.
I couldn't leave Kuala Lumpur without eating the absolute mos comforting Malaysian street food: Nasi Lemak. After searching around, I finally found it at an outdoors restaurant. It wasn't the best nasi lemak I've ever had, but it sure wasn't bad!
Hope you enjoyed this Malaysian street food tour in Kuala Lumpur!

I arrived in Malaysia and went straight for the food. Jalan Alor is located in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, and is full of hawker stalls that sell a variety of culinary delights from dumplings to many types of durian!
I went with a couple of local friends and they showed me some of the most famous stalls, as well as some must-get street foods when in Malaysia.

Jalan Alor Food Street Walking Tour Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
Jalan Alor Food Street Walking Tour Bukit Bintang Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Jalan Alor once known as the red light district of KL has transformed over the years into one of the most famous roads with a bustling night market filled with hawker stalls and seafood restaurants. It is located just on block from Jalan Bukit Bintang and a short walk away from the Bukit Bintang monorail station. It is a favourite early or late night dining spot in the Golden Triangle area. There are air-conditioned seafood restaurants which provide for a decent and inexpensive meal but the area is more frequented for their hawker food.
Don't worry about not speaking Malay or Mandarin as most hawker stalls have picture menus, making ordering simple. We suggest you explore the whole street and then grab a table and order your dishes from the diverse range of hawkers. Recommended are the the Grilled chicken wings from Restoran Wong Ah Wah:
smoky-flavoured chicken satay from Terminal Sate Zul, Oyster caked and Char Kway Teow from Restoran Meng Kee Grill Fish. Pin Chen for their Hainanese Chicken Rice, Uncle Lim for Pan Mee, Alor Corner for Curry Mee, and Coconut Ice Cream at Sengkaya.
