In one day, we had 7 delicious street foods all made in the PUNJAB style. I didn’t realize until after we finished eating, but we didn’t eat any meat or chicken at all! It was true vegetarian HEAVEN!
We started out the day with an AMAZING Indian breakfast in two different Indian street food restaurants. The first was the famous Amritsar Kulcha. I’m pretty sure you can get this dish in Delhi, but here in Amritsar is the origin of this stuffed baked bread from HEAVEN. It’s stuffed with a spiced potato mix and onions. It’s sprinkled with a masala spice and then put DEEP into the Tandoori oven and baked. It’s served to you on a plate with Chole chickpea curry and onion chutney.
The next AMAZING Breakfast we had on our street food tour was the Poori and Chole with Potato sabzi. A little similar with the chole, but the potato sabzi was nice and sweet and tangy and very UNIQUE!
Afterwards, we took our TUK TUK around town for some more amazing street foods. We enjoyed a street corner tofu curry served with a pancake and then we went to have a sweet and sour buttermilk lassi.
After this, we went to the LEGENDARY Kesar De Dhaba all vegetarian curry restaurant that uses PURE desi ghee. It was extremely flavourful and just a little spicy. We ordered the VEG thali and it was incredible! The paratha bread was so fluffy and covered in pure desi ghee, absolute HEAVEN! We also ate some dessert, a fruit kulfi ice cream!
After this we went for a couple more street foods in Amritsar. We were exploring the back lanes and found an amazing mango fruit stall! It was dried and covered in a slightly spicy and sour and tangy sauce. There were a lot of flavours in this Indian recipe. It was spicy, sour, tangy, sweet, peppery, acidic, pungent, and made your mouth pucker when you ate it! Very UNIQUE!
After this, we went for our final street food, an ICONIC street food in India, the samosa. It was stuffed with potato, cumin seeds, and spices.
The addresses for these street food restaurants in Amritsar, India, are listed below:
1) Breakfast Street Food Kulcha at Monu Kulcha Hut

Welcome to the beginning of our INDIA STREET FOOD series! We are starting the tour in AMRITSAR, the capital of PUNJAB and full of delicious Punjabi cuisine. In this episode we start the day at a famous Indian breakfast stall Giani Tea Stall to try kachori, butter bread and chai (120 INR / 1.69 USD). It was so buttery and delicious on a cold morning. Next, we go to the Golden Temple, Harmandir Sahiba, to marvel at its beauty. It was free to enter, but you must cover your head. Then we head deep into OLD Amritsar to taste its history. Our first stop was at Punjabi restaurant Kesar Da Dhaba, where they serve a Punjabi thali (255 INR / 3.58 USD) as well as some regional desserts, kulfi (70 INR / 0.98 USD) and phirni (50 INR / 0.70 USD).
Exploring through the narrow alleys by rickshaw is a lot of fun and we stopped to have a lassi, something you CANNOT MISS on a trip to INDIA! Gian Di Lassi makes them fresh and has a unique Punjabi flavour, although it is very sweet (120 INR / 1.69 USD). Before leaving Old Amritsar, we wanted to savour some meat! We went to Joginder Dhaba for some buttery chicken curry (350 INR / 4.92 USD), and the chef was nice enough to show us all the different meats he had cooking street side.
We were super full on Indian STREET FOOD but we had to make one more stop at the end of the day. We wanted to eat the famous Punjabi fried fish and went to Makhan Fish and Chicken Corner. This place has been around since 1962!!! We ordered their deliciously thick river fish that is fried to perfection (390 INR / 5.48 USD), chicken tandoor (240 INR / 3.37 USD), mutton tikka (420 INR / 5.90 USD) and of course, butter chicken (350 INR / 4.92 USD). BUTTERY Punjabi INDIAN Street Food BREAKFAST Tour | Amritsar, India
In November of 2018, I embarked upon the most epic and most ambitious trip of my life: a 21-day trip back to India after my first visit to the country eleven months earlier. I fell in love with India the first time and my love for it has only grown in my time away. Instead of exploring the country solo like I did in January, this time I went with my buddy Sam, who I knew I would have tons of incredible experiences with as we traveled through this beautiful and magical country.
Subscribe to Sam & Audrey:

With the first two cities of our epic trip (Pune and Hyderabad) now in our rearview mirror, it was time for our adventures in city number three, Amritsar, to begin! Come along with us as we head out on a mind-blowing Punjabi breakfast street food tour!
My Film Making Kit ►
Wearing my new turban, which I was given by a few new Sikh friends the previous night, I set out early on our first morning in Amritsar with Sam and my friend Deepak from Amritsar Walking Tours to have an amazing Punjabi breakfast street food tour.
Our first stop was at the 65-year-old Pehalwan Kulcha Shop, where we tried some Kulcha, which is a traditional mildly leavened flatbread made from maida flower and lots of spices, and is served with chole masala (chickpea masala) and a tamarind sauce that was loaded with onions. My kulcha was made with lots of green chilies, but my first taste was of Deepak’s kulcha, which was crispy, super buttery, and was bursting with the flavors of lots of delicious herbs and spices! My kulcha wasn’t super spicy, but it was still out of this world. I loved the flavor of the ghee (Indian clarified butter), and putting a bit of the chole and tamarind sauces made for a mouthwatering flavor and texture combination!
Then it was Sam’s turn to try the Kulcha. He said it’s the best flatbread he’s ever had in India, so I think that means he liked it!
After our incredible Kulcha breakfast, Deepak took us to a small shop called Tara Chand, which is located in the walled city known as Old Amritsar. There, we tried some paneer bhurji, another popular breakfast here in the city! This dish is made of cottage cheese, butter, vegetables, and a secret masala the cooks won’t share with anyone! It was served with two slices of bread, a mint chutney, a tamarind sauce, and onions, and contains an unreal amount of butter! It’s a super heavy and creamy dish, and is full of herbs and spices. But it tastes so good! The mint chutney was fantastic paired with it. The dish is almost like cheesy, buttery scrambled eggs, except there are no eggs in it!
Next, we went to two shops to try some Amritsari Lassi! Lassi is a creamy, yogurt-based drink that is typically enjoyed at the end of an Indian meal, and is the national drink of India. The dairy in the lassi really helps to cool down your mouth after dishes with lots of chilies and fiery spices! We stopped by Giani Punjabi Lassi, where we watched them make a traditional lassi by hand, which included a large dollop of cream and butter on top. My first spoonful of it was all butter, but once you sip it, it’s like a really thick, rich, and fatty milkshake. It was decadent and absolutely delicious, and I couldn’t get enough of it!
I hope you enjoyed our epic, buttery Punjabi breakfast tour! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below so we can chat! And please subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already so you don’t miss out on any of my upcoming food and travel content!

Top 10 Indian Street Foods in Amritsar, India | The BEST INDIAN Street Food in Amritsar
Back in November of 2018, I spent three weeks eating my way through seven incredible cities in India with my friend Sam from Samuel and Audrey. The third city of our trip was Amritsar, a city that’s known for its rich dairy dishes. These are my top 10 Indian street foods in Amritsar, India!
1. Kulcha (Pehalwan Kulcha Shop)
Kulcha is a buttery flatbread that is served with a chickpea dish called chole masala and a tamarind sauce that’s loaded with onions. The ghee, chole, and tamarind together was an epic flavor combination!
2. Paneer Bhurji (Tara Chand)
Paneer Bhurji is a buttery cottage cheese and vegetable dish that is served with two slices of bread, mint chutney, tamarind sauce, and onions. It almost tastes like buttery scrambled eggs!
3. Lassi (Giani Punjabi Lassi)
Lassi is a creamy, yogurt-based drink that you usually have at the end of a meal. The Amritsari version adds a pat of butter and a big dollop of cream, making it a rich, decadent, Indian milkshake!
4. Palak Paneer (Kesar de Dhaba)
Palak Paneer is a popular spinach and cottage cheese dish that’s loaded with fragrant and delicious spices. The 100-year-old recipe at Kesar de Dhaba is out of this world! The combination of cheese, spinach, and spices was heavenly!
5. Maa Ki Dal (Kesar de Dhaba)
Maa Ki Dal is a sweet and earthy lentil dish that is slow-cooked at Kesar de Dhaba for twelve hours in a huge pot. It has a nice layer of fat on top and creamy ghee flavor throughout. It’s my favorite dal in India!
6. Masala Chai (Street Vendor)
There’s always room for chai! Chai is a milky, tea-based drink that is often infused with warming spices like cardamom, ginger, and cinnamon. It’s served piping hot and is the best thing to drink in India!
7. Langar Food (Golden Temple)
The world-famous Golden Temple in Amritsar contains a langar, or free kitchen, that feeds 100,000 people of all faiths, creeds, and backgrounds every day. You can taste the love that the volunteers put into the maa ki dal, chickpea chole, roti, and kheer. It’s one of the most inspiring places in all of India!
8. Amritsari Punjabi Thali (Bharawan Da Dhaba)
The best thali you’ll find in Amritsar is served at Bharawan Da Dhaba, another century-old restaurant in the city. Their sweet and earthy dal, huge chunks of paneer, rich chole, and sweet and spicy mango curry are out of this world!
9. Kebabs (Sarhad Restaurant)
The kebabs at Sarhad Restaurant near the Pakistani border are on another level! Their tender and juicy Chicken Seekh Kebab is so soft, it reminded me of poached chicken. You also must try the Dahi Ka Kebab, which is a fried, potato fritter-like patty with yogurt inside that’s served with phenomenal mint chutney. It’s insanely delicious!
10. Mutton Curry (Sarhad Restaurant)
Last but not least is the mutton curry at Sarhad Restaurant. I am a mutton fiend and have eaten it all over the world, but this one is easily one of the best mutton dishes in the world! The tender and buttery meat is served in a rich and aromatic curry and practically melts in your mouth. It’s so yummy and is the perfect way to cap off my list of the top 10 Indian street foods in Amritsar!

In today’s episode, we are continuing to explore Amritsar’s street food scene, eating tons of AMAZING Punjabi specialties. And later in the episode, we are heading to the Indian / Pakistan border to watch the daily ceremony, and eat some delicious Pakistani food nearby.
We start the day at the Telephone Exchange, an area packed with street food. Our first stop is for Punjabi style poori, which is a deep fried puffy dough served with thick chana masala (chick pea gravy). Just nearby the Telephone Exchange, there was a stall serving a buttery paneer bhurji (scrambled cheese with onions, tomatoes and spices). Scooping the thick paneer chucks into the slice of bread is HEAVEN! Gaurav wanted to show us a famous and unknown stall that serves a RARE winter specialty, jaggery pudding. It was so good we all ate a few!
For lunch, we went to the famous Ashok Kumar Kulche Wala for a big plate of buttery kulcha (flatbread). This stall is packed with locals eating this Punjabi specialty right on the street. Watching them make the kulcha at all different stations was interesting to watch! The kulcha was served with a chutney and chana masala, and it was really SPICY!
Since Amritsar is very close to Pakistan (Wagah border) we decided to go watch the daily flag lowering ceremony between India and Pakistan. It was PACKED with people from all over India and the world! After the ceremony, we visited a restaurant called Sarhad (which translates to “border”) to try some Pakistani dishes. The concept of the restaurant is to promote peace, between India and Pakistan, through the love of food! We ordered chapli kebab (minced mutton kebab) and Lahori murgh (Pakistani style chicken). It was delicious and the owner was kind enough to show us the entire complex, which features Pakistani art pieces, clothing and furniture. If you want to visit any of these places yourself, check the info below:

Wagah Border Ceremony |Exploring Amritsar, Food Tour, Shopping With 'City On Pedals'
I have explored Amritsar with ‘City On Pedals’ in this vlog. This was a complete backpacking trip where I travelled solo from New Delhi to Amritsar. I took Wagah- Attari Border tour, food tour on cycle, heritage walk tour, and also Golden Temple early morning visit with City on Pedals. I had such a great experience of exploring Amritsar city with City On Pedals and I am sure you guys would enjoy watching me explore the city in this video. Also, this is Part 1 of Amritsar series. Remember to check out my other vlogs from Amritsar (Punjab) too.
You can check out ‘City On Pedals’ tour here:
Take a tour with them and do share your experience with me. I am pretty active on all my Social Media. Find the links to my Instagram and Facebook page below.

Pul Kanjari – This historical village (last village on India-Pakistan border) is situated almost 38 km away from Amritsar on Amritsar-Lahore road, near Daoka and Audhar villages on Wagah Border. Pul Kanjari is one of the heritage sites built by Maharaja Ranjt Singh. It is said that the king used to rest at this village while travelling with his troops. Pul Kanjari was an important trading centre during his reign. If stories to be believed, then the village was named after a pul (bridge), which was built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh for a dancer Moran who was of kanjari caste. One day while crossing the canal, her one shoe fell into the water, which vexed her a great deal, and a bridge was constructed on her insistence. Hence, the name Pul Kanjari.
--------------------------------
Wagah- Attari Border (Beating Retreat Ceremony)– Wagah-Attari border is broadly known as Wagah Border. It is an international border between India & Pakistan. Attari is Indian Territory in Amritsar zone of Punjab in India and Wagah is Pakistan territory in Lahore zone. Wagah Parade, which is very famous as Beating retreat Ceremony, happens every day before sunset and people from all over the county and even foreigners come to watch it. There are even special sitting arrangements for foreigners. You can witness patriotism at its best during this ceremony.
The soldiers of beating retreat ceremony are specially appointed and trained. BSF drums are played, parade is done, Bollywood patriotism songs are played, people hoots. During the sunset, the main gates (actual division line between India & Pakistan) are opened at both the sides and the flags of both the countries are lowered simultaneously in cross-country form. After that soldiers at both the sides of the gates shake hands and post that gates are closed. National Flags are taken to the secure place with utmost respect by BSF (Border Security Force) from India and Pakistan Rangers from Pakistan. Even woman guards have been made the part of this ceremony since 2011. There are two more locations in India where such ceremonies take place but they are not as grand as the one happening at Wagah-Attari border.

One Day Itinerary in Amritsar - things to do, places to visit and food to eat
Hailed as the “Home of all Virtues” (Sifti Da Ghar), Amritsar has a dazzling showcase of composite culture and secular heritage. A focal point of Sikh faith, a pivot of Punjab politics, a nursery of defense pool and an alert sentinel at the Indo-Pak border, it is a city that is like a diamond with many facets.
It is not important that you plan a long trip to the city then only you will be able to know about all such places of historical importance rather take a short trip, maybe of a day, and enjoy the real beauty. This video is curated with the main motive to let our world travelers know what they can do during their short stay in the city.
Starting from the Center for Sikh faith - the Golden Temple, we will have different places of major attractions like Jallianwala Bagh, Wagah Border, local shopping bazaars and best places of food to fuel you up for the day.
Amritsar has a haphazard blend of taste, smell, touch, and sound which may be sometimes draining for our visitors to locate. So City On Pedals take this initiative to guide our guests through the most important alleys of the city and make you familiar with them.
Make the most of your visit with this Amritsar One Day Itinerary.

Delhi, India is a true CURRY HEAVEN, and we traveled here to go for this DEEP Street Food tour of Old Delhi! The Food Ranger (Trevor James) is in India eating Street Food! This walk through Old delhi truly was an AMAZING STREET FOOD ADVENTURE with delicious curry, amazing restaurants, and with so much tasty and UNIQUE Indian food recipes for our huge Indian dinner.
If you love eating street food around the world and street food in India, or even all over Asia, you will love the street food in Old Delhi. You can find street food everywhere, where everyone seems to cook delicious Indian recipes for curry and SPICY dishes all over the street.
In one day in old Delhi, India, we had 7 delicious street foods all made in the halal style.
We started out the day with an AMAZING ramadan experience at the largest Mosque in Delhi, Jama Masjid. We picked up a ton of different Indian street foods to bring to the mosque and break the fast with all the locals. We shared the delicious food, and then went back to the streets of Old Delhi to try more food.
The first food we had on our street food tour was the Delhi Fried Chicken, DFC, covered in Indian spices like masala and mustard. It was extremely JUICY and PLUMP!!!
Afterwards, we tried more BBQ chicken and then went for a nice Indian dinner cooked by one of the locals in Old Delhi. His family recipes were passed down to him and his food was legendary! We ate Indian Chicken Biryani and chicken korma curry along with Buffalo Korma along with Kameeri Roti! It was absolutely delicious!
After this, we went to the LEGENDARY Changezi chicken joint that invented the recipe for this juicy and flavour packed chicken curry dish!
To finish of the day, we went for some delicious BBQ Seekh Kebabs, extremely flavourful!!
The addresses for these street food restaurants in Old Delhi, India, are found on the main street below Jama Masjid, Old Delhi, India.

Super RICH Punjabi THALI + Durgiana Temple Visit | Amritsar, India
In November of 2018, I had the opportunity to revisit one of my favorite destinations ever, India. I first visited this beautiful country eleven months earlier in January, and I fell in love with it. Now I can’t stop coming back to see more of the incredible cities and people that make this such a beautiful destination. My travel buddy Sam had been before as well, so we decided to team up on an epic, seven city trip across the subcontinent!
Subscribe to Sam & Audrey:

Our second day in Amritsar was well underway after a beautiful and emotional experience at the kitchens of the Golden Temple. Our day continued with a visit to yet another beautiful temple, Durgiana, as well as more outstanding Indian food in the form of a traditional Punjabi thali. Come along with me, Sam, and our friend Deepak from Amritsar Walking Tours as we continue to explore this amazing city!
My Film Making Kit ►
Unlike the Golden Temple, which is a Sikh temple known as a Gurdwara, Durgiana Temple is a Hindu temple that is dedicated to the goddess Durga. It was built in 1921 in the middle of a sacred lake in the same architectural style of the Golden Temple. The two buildings look almost identical to one another!
Like the Golden Temple, you enter Durgiana barefoot. In order to gain entry, you must ring a large bell. Once we passed through the ornate silver doors, we spotted an idol of Shiva, the main god in the Hindu religion, which was draped with flowers as offerings, as well as marble stones etched with names and inscriptions. The temple was free of crowds and very peaceful. When you come here, I highly recommend a walk around the boardwalk to get some great views and photos of the temple itself. It’s absolutely gorgeous and a must-visit when you come to Amritsar.
Next, we headed over to Bharawan Da Dhaba, a famous local veg restaurant that has been in business since 1912! We ordered an authentic Amritsari Punjabi thali that contained maa ki dal, paneer, chole, boondi raita, rice, and butter naan.
The dal was sweet and earthy, and the paneer’s curry was so rich! The chunks of paneer were huge and there were so many flavors from all of the spices in it. The heat from it sneaks up on you! The chole, or chickpeas, was also outstanding. The curry was very thick and rich and I loved it! Next we tried the boondi raita, which is a type of yogurt. It was cold, light, and refreshing, and had a nice contrast with the hot naan. Next I tried a mango curry, which was really flavorful and spicy, with some of the chole. It was amazing!
After having a thali in Pune that only had paratha, and a thali in Hyderabad that only had rice, it was really nice to have a thali that contained both paratha and rice! It was like a nice mix of Northern and Southern thalis. I loved mixing the chickpea chole into the rice. It was so flavorful and had me going back to it again and again.
We wrapped up our meal with some chai at a small shop nearby. As usual, it was scorching hot, but wonderful as ever. And before we left, I had to thank my new friend Deepak for the incredible time he showed us in Amritsar. Go follow him!
I hope you enjoyed our drool-inducing thali meal and our trip to Durgiana Temple. If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. And please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss out on any of my upcoming food and travel content!

More about Wagah Border, Adarsh Meat Shop & their Mutton Tikkas, Paya & Brain Curry:
Wagah Border is a must-visit for every tourist visiting Amritsar. It is the only road border crossing between India and Pakistan and is located at a distance of around 30km from the Golden Temple. The ceremony of Beating Retreat and Change of Guard makes this place highly valued, especially around Republic Day. People assemble here every day in thousands to watch the ceremony by the Indian army which evokes an intense feeling of patriotism in those watching. Barely a kilometre away from the border is this a popular restaurant called Sarhad. Sarhad, which means the border or frontier, is an eatery which highlights the cuisines and cultures of the two neighbouring countries. From the architecture of the building to the food, everything is a pure representation of two cities from both the countries: Amritsar and Lahore.
Started in 1960, Adarsh Meat Shop is another famous spot in Amritsar for breakfast & Punjabi food. As you enter the famous food lane of Ranjit Avenue, you can easily spot Adarsh Meat Shop because only that is one place where you can see most of the people standing outside waiting for their order. Their shallow fried and slow-cooked tender meat comes right off the rib with a spicy and sour flavour and it can be perfectly paired with soft kulchas. Their Mutton Tikka is very good and is well marinated and spiced. The only problem one faces at this restaurant is that they only have a limited seating space so you will see people getting packed and eating in the car.
They are also known for their Mutton Chaap, Brain Curry with kulchas and paya, besides their Mutton Tikkas!
So, if you are in the mood for some Punjabi breakfast - ghee-soaked mutton tikkas, mutton chaap & the best of dhaba food in Amritsar, you know where to head!
