Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine & Akiba Shrine and Kyoujin-isi, Takayama, Japan, 2019
The origins of Sakurayama Hachimangu Shrine date from the time of the Emperor Nintoku (413 - 439), when he requested Prince Takefurukuma-no-mikoto to subjugate the monster Ryoumen Sukuna, an incredible beast with 2 heads, 4 arms and 4 legs.
Before undertaking his task, the warrior enshrined his father, the Emperor Ojin as the deity of this sanctuary, and prayed for the success of his mission.
In 1683, through the benefaction of Lord Kanamori, the shrine was enlarged and offcially established for the protection of the town.
(Inaba Shrine)
Inaba Shrine is a Shinto shrine located at the base of Mount Kinka in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture, Japan.
In 1871, the shrine was ranked as a Kokuhei Shōsha (National shrine of the 3rd rank) under the Modern system of ranked Shinto shrines of State Shinto.
Located almost in the center of Gifu City, Kinka-zan was once called Inabayama. At the top of the mountain stands Gifu Castle, and Inaba Shrine sits at the foot of the mountain, which was frequently featured on the center stage of history during the Sengoku Period.
The main enshrined deity is “Inishikiiribiko-no-Mikoto”, who is the 1st prince of Emperor Suinin(The 11th Emperor of Japan) and the older brother of Emperor Keikō (The 12th Emperor of Japan). It is said that this god developed various areas of Japan by imperial order and played an active role in a wide range of fields such as domestic administration, civil engineering and military affairs.
However, after conquering Oshu (Present Tohoku region), Inishikiiribiko-no-mikoto was slandered by the imperial court and killed in the place where Inaba Shrine is located. The year after his death, Emperor Keikō found his son's innocence and built a shrine at the foot of the mountain, which is said to be the foundation of Inaba Shrine.

(Gifu Gokoku Shrine)
Gifu Gokoku Shrine is located in Gifu City, Gifu Prefecture.
I think it's easy to understand if you say Gokoku Shrine is the prefectural version of Yasukuni Shrine. It is a shrine to enshrine the spirits of those who martyred for Japan during the war.
Gifu Gokoku Shrine is located at the foot of Mount Kinka, famous for Gifu Castle, a scenic spot near Gifu Station. By the way, it is only about 1 km away from Inaba Shrine, the famous shrine that represents Gifu city that I introduced before.

This area used to be the riverbed of the Nagara River, and the grounds were leveled at the time of its establishment thanks to the hard work of the people of Gifu Prefecture. The trees surrounding the shrine are the forest of Mount Kinka.
