The Kaohsiung MRT Formosa Boulevard Station (Chinese: 美麗島站; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Bí-lē-tó-chām) is a metro station located in Sinsing District, Kaohsiung. It is a transfer station between the Red Line and the Orange Line.
Formosa Boulevard Station is named after the Formosa Boulevard project, a remodelling of Kaohsiung's Jhongshan Road in preparation for the 2009 World Games. Formosa Boulevard is in turn named after the Formosa Incident. Transferring from the Red line to the Orange line (or vice versa) takes roughly 4 minutes.
The station is a three-level, underground station with an island platform and two side platforms. It is located at the junction of Jhongjheng and Jhongshan Road and has 11 exits. The Orange Line station is 334 metres long, while the Red Line station is 209 metres long.
The station is known for its Dome of Light, the largest glass work in the world. It was designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. It is 30 metres in diameter and covers an area of 2,180 square metres. It is made up of 4,500 glass panels. The dome will be offered as venues for weddings.

Formosa Boulevard MRT Station (美麗島捷運站)
Ranked as the world´s second most beautiful metro station, Formosa Boulevard Station, from the outside is a complete work of art but it's the inside of it, what is known as the Dome of Light, that always leaves me breathless. IMO, it is a must visit if you come to Taiwan and specially to Kaohsiung.
Dome of Light in Formosa Boulevard KMRT Station (Kaohsiung)
Situated at the Kaohsiung MRT transfer station for the Red Line and Orange Line (Formosa Boulevard Station), the Dome of Light was created by renowned artist Narcissus Quagliata. The dome is the world's largest public art installation made from individual pieces of colored glass. The work not only adds to the beauty of the station, but also adds a new dimension to the art life of the Kaohsiung and creates a new scenic spot in the city.
The Dome of Light took nearly four years to complete. The work was overseen personally by Quagliata and shipped from Germany for installation at the station. The dome tells the story of human life in four chronologically arranged themes: Water: The Womb of Life; Earth: Prosperity and Growth; Light: The Creative Spirit; and Fire: Destruction and Rebirth, with an overall message of love and tolerance.
The dome has a 30-meter diameter and covers an area of 660 square meters. The lead glass panes were created and assembled according to a full-scale blueprint created by Quagliata to produce a creative new departure from this millennia old art form.

Formosa Boulevard:
The most beautiful MRT station in Kaohsiung
A: Good morning, ma'am. May I help you?
B: Yes, this is my first time in Kaohsiung, but I don't have a lot of time. Could you please give me some recommendations and help me plan an itinerary?
A: What kinds of things are you interested in: exhibitions, public art, or sightseeing?
B: Well, I've heard there is public art on display in the stations of the Kaohsiung MRT. Could you tell me about this?
A:Sure, I'll be glad to!
(Show Formosa Boulevard Station)
Narrator: Formosa Boulevard Station is the most famous one. In fact, it has been voted one of the most beautiful Subway Stations in the world by a travel webpage called BootsnAll ( The main theme for the station design is remembering the people who died on the 228 Incident. It is very beautiful both during the day or at night because the exits to the station are made of glass, so they always look very shiny.
Another interesting part of Formosa Boulevard Station is the Dome of Light. It was created by Narcissus Quagliata, an Italian artist based in Mexico. Even if you don't understand the meaning of the design, you can enjoy the colorful glass panels. People use many positions to try to take a picture of the whole installation.
There are four main sections, each with a main color: red, green, blue and yellow. There is a meaning behind these four colors.
The red color is the most attractive. It represents war and destruction, but the phoenix symbolizes rebirth.
The blue color means ocean, and the ocean is the origin of life.
The green color is the symbol of the earth. Everything grows from it, then becomes strong, and when something dies, it will go back into the soil. This cycle will continue forever.
The yellow one symbolizes light; its bright color will make you think of respect towards all things and of eternal kindness. Just like the morning sunshine, light will accompany you forever.
But I think this explanation may be too formal and you may find it boring. Maybe we can see it as if we were children, who use their imagination to come up with their own explanations.
If you pay attention to the Dome, you will find that the artist is very creative and has done something very special here. One interesting detail is that the artist included his self-portrait and signature in the dome.
After you visit the installation, you can go towards exits 5 to 8, where you will see
many stores that sell handmade products. For example, they sell dolls made of socks
(Show image of the stores and products)
If you go towards exits 9 to 11, you will see a café where there is a 3D picture on the floor. Look for a sign that shows the best place to take a picture, and you will find that it looks like you are standing on the roof of a café.
B: Wow, that's so cool! I think I would like to go there. Thanks for the introduction. By the way, can I use the Easy Card to take the Kaohsiung MRT, as in the Taipei Metro?
A: No, it's a different system, but you can ask the staff in the MRT Station to help
you to buy a ticket.
B: Ok, thanks for your help, I think I will enjoy my first trip in Kaohsiung! Bye!
A: Good Bye. Have a nice trip!
