Papago International Resort
In an online poll conducted this year by the Taiwan travel company EzTravel, this lovely Mediterranean-look resort, located just south of Chishang, was declared “Taiwan’s most beautiful hotel.” Need one say more?
Here’s more. Netizens lauded the quiet surroundings, low-rise architecture that enables sweeping views up and down the lush valley, and the luxurious outdoor-pool complex in the inner courtyard of the three-sided main building, umbrellas and swaying palm trees providing ample shade.
The rooms inside the main building are very spacious; some look over the inner-courtyard pools, some face outward toward the mountains, and all have comfy balconies. Beyond the main building and pool complex is a “village” of luxury villas, in Victorian, Balinese, and Mediterranean style.
There are two high-quality restaurants, one serving Chinese cuisine, the other Chinese/international buffets. An upscale spa complex is located in front of the main building, alfresco in the middle with roofs covering the spa pools along the sides (different temperatures, and such options as a “roselle” mineral-water soak, “milk” soak, etc.). Two of the many other amenities/services of special note are the hotel’s well-stocked bike-rental operation and its daily 1-hour tractor-train tours, during which your guide introduces (in Chinese) the area’s irrigation works, the Taiwan Sugar Chishang Pastoral Farm Resort, and other local spots of interest.

8 DAYS IN TAIWAN 2017 dank vlog (1/3) - Kaohsiung
As promised, here is the first part of my trip to Taiwan with my family over the new years! We spent two days in Kaohsiung, another four in Taichung and the last two days in Taipei. Most of the travelling was done by train/taxi. The exchange rate from SGD to Taipei currency is about 20 times more. There is no time difference, but the sun sets really early during winter, around 5.30pm, so I felt lethargic or hungry pretty easily, in other words, my body clock was screwed. I did little research before going to Taiwan, so whatever I saw was a very raw and first-hand experience. What I will say is that travelling from Kaohsiung to Taichung to Taipei felt like I was moving closer and closer to civilisation kek. It also felt super weird going to Taiwan because I knew Mandarin and I could understand people and it felt like I wasn't on a trip... It's a difficult feeling to explain; confusion?
Just like most trips abroad from Singapore, I managed to seek respite from the humidity here. The wind was always cooling against my skin. Why am I being so poetic right now, I think Í have been reading too much recently HAHA
Since this travel vlog doesn't really have a specific intent of any sort, I'll just leave a mini-journal of the main attractions we went to so you can check them out for yourselves if you ever wish to go to Taiwan! (including those that I didn't include in the vlog)
Day 1: Kaohsiung
We landed at the Kaohsiung airport around noon, and we had a family friend pick us up and bring us around. We had tea and had a chat in Goody Goody Coffee (a cafe in Xinxing District) until the sun went down (I know, what a way to spend your first day in Taiwan). The tea was awesome and it was super chill. Taiwan is the land of tea so DRINK LOTS OF TEA WHILE YOU CAN-
We proceeded to Ruifeng Night Market, where you can gain access to EVEN MORE TEA and that place is CROWDED af so if you're claustrophobic then maybe you might want to refrain from forcing yourself into the crowds. What else can I say, TONS TONS TONS of food. Another specialty gourmet dish they have there is smelly tofu (which is just fermented fermented milk if you think about it) so if you don't like the smell of feet, you might want to shut off your nostrils when walking past those stalls.
Then we took the metro to Dream Mall (Qianzheng District), which is the countdown venue. If you see a ferris wheel, you're in the right place. We hung out there for a bit, enjoying the moozik and again, there's literally food everywhere but at this point of time we are full af. After becoming pooped, we hitch a taxi ride back to our hotel (Wo Chia hotel) before midnight. When the clock strikes midnight, we watched the fireworks from our window, glad to be celebrating the arrival of 2017 in the comfort of our newly found home.
Day 2: Still Kaohsiung
The Wo Chia hotel staff handed us complementary coupons for a neat little Mosburger meal (nothing good like travelling to Taiwan to eat Mosburger). We then march over to the convenience store right beside where I find myself intrigued with a solitary rotating hotdog. After I eagerly taking out my phone to film it, I was alerted that I couldn't film in the store. But it was too late. The deed had been done. (You can actually hear the voice of the counter person in the background if you turn the volume up enough)
Lunch is served in Yancheng Duck Noodles (if I didn't remember it wrongly), and we devour the innards before going to purchase more bubble tea. With our bladders full, we drive off to a black sand beach in Kenting. We grab a satisfying bowl of green/yellow bean shaved ice at 正黃家綠豆蒜 (Zheng Huang Jia Green Bean Garlic, yes wtf why is there garlic I tasted no garlic).
No. 3之36號, Fu'an Rd, Checheng Township, Pingtung County, Taiwan 944
The temple we visited is the Checheng Fuan Temple, buddhist. The architecture is amazing, amazing view and there is free wifi. :D As you can see in the video, there are tons of food stalls near the temple as well.
The ride back was pretty long, aggravated by the traffic jam on the way back. By the time we reached the last stop for dinner, I was in complete zombie mode so I have no idea where we ate for dinner. :-) Just know that pork trotters are also a speciality in Taiwan!
Andddd with that we conclude our first 2 days in Kaohsiung. YAY
Music used (Kaohsiung):
