Fort Erie, Ontario: Downtown Driving Tour (February, 2019)
Our driving tour video starts across from Old Fort Erie on Lakeshore Road in Fort Erie, Ontario. The initial scene shows the Buffalo, New York skyline across the waters of Lake Erie. We had just finished up photographing a sunrise that fizzled out.
The drive takes us east on Lakeshore / Dominion Road, past the Mather Arch and under the Peace Bridge. The bridge spans the Niagara River, serving as a border crossing between Canada and the United States.
We turn around after passing through the old downtown of Fort Erie and head west again. After passing under the Peace Bridge and again passing the Mather Arch, we exit town via Garrison Road / Highway 3.
The sunrise over Buffalo, New York from that morning:
Our next stop was Welland, Ontario - see that driving tour video here:

We went to the horse races for the first time with our friends Heather & Sandy. Heather gives us pointers on how to read the pamphlets details about each race, the horses, the odds, their age, how well they did in previous races, and both Harold and I bet $2 on each set of tickets. I won several times, doubled my money, and lost some of it, but still came out with a few bucks in my pocket. I was there for 5 hours and spent $10. :)
it was worth every penny! lots of exercise walking back and forth to bet on the horses, see them go around in a show circle before the race, then walking to the racing sections and finding a seat to sit down on!
It was fun!
we also enjoyed a tasty hot dog at Nathan's and some poutine fries with gravy from the fry truck.. reasonable prices. They have an open fruit, vegetable, meat, and bread , desserts market it was open all day on Sunday Sept 29 2013. ;)

Sorry I dont remember the names of the horses that won that day. It was our first time at the track with friends heather & sandy and we had a great time, and got loads of exercise running back and forth to bet on a race, then stand or sit and watch them go around the track.
It was quite the learning experience! ;)
quote
All bets are off for the 117th season at Fort Erie Race Track when the last race is actually held on October 15, 2013 . Not only does Canadian horse racing stand to lose a jewel in its triple crown, but those horse people and track workers stand to lose a whole lot more than the Prince of Wales Stakes. They stand to lose their livelihood said Horwath.

Fort Erie Race Track
And They're Off!!
Fort Erie Race Track opened to the public on June 16th, 1897 making it the oldest track in all of Canada. Since 1959, The Prince of Wales Stakes has been Fort Erie's premier race. The second jewel in Canada's Triple Crown of Racing. The Prince of Wales is a glowing centrepiece to the Queen's Plate and The Breeders' Stakes, both of which are contested at Woodbine.
Great Canadian champions have raced at the Fort, including Northern Dancer, where he captured his maiden victory in1963, going on to win the Ketucky Derby and Preakness Stakes the following year. Northern Dancer is, incidently, the great-great grandsire (on both the sire and dam side) of Mine That Bird, the winner of the 2009 Kentucky Derby.
The most popular winner of the Prince of Wales waltzed to victory in 1991, super filly Dance Smartly, 'kicked sand at the boys' as she became the first and only lady to win the Canadian Triple Crown. A funny moment in history occured at Fort Erie Track in 1961, when a horse named Puss n Boots decided to take a detour and a refreshing dip in the infield lake. While leading a race at the top of the stretch he veered inward and made his way to the infield where he decided to go for a swim. In honour of his impromptu swim, Fort Erie Race Track holds the Puss n Boots Stakes on the turf every summer. Currently Fort Erie offers racing, May through October. It's a must see, when visiting Fort Erie, just minutes from the Peace Bridge & Buffalo. It's approximately a 20minute drive from Niagara Falls. And while you're there, check out the OLG Slots. On the gaming floor, you'll find over 1000 slot machines. If it's good times you're searching for, look no further than The Fort Erie Race Track!
