wewillroam.com | From the Bay of Fires down the east coast of Tasmania, we've made a start on our bucket list of tracks and hikes. Scamander Reserve, Apsley Gorge, Mt. EP 5 SAILING IN TASMANIA - Fortescue Bay, Canoe Bay, Hen & Chicken, Mariah Island, Wineglass Bay
Impi is sailing around the world - this is our 7th year of full time sailing on our catamaran, a Lagoon 440
This video series will be more of interest to those who enjoy sailing in different destinations and not for general tourism purposes.
In Episode 5 of SAILING IN TASMANIA, We share some of the beautiful anchorages and sailing attractions between Port Arthur and St Helens on the NE coast of Tasmania.
Our sailing views are from Port Arthur to:
Sailing around the intrepid Tasman Island (Cape Pillar, Cathedral Rock)
Fortescue Bay / Canoe Bay for shelter from bad weather
Hen and Chickens ( a dramatic rock and mountain surrounded anchorage on Schouten Island South)
Wind Glass Bay
and we end with the passage into St Helens.
When we googled for some information on entering St Helens (a tricky and sometimes dangerous sand bar crossing) we found little to nothing so we will share a but more about that in our next video, however we do show our planned route from satelite imagery and then also the actual track we 'pulled' as we followed VMR (Volunteer Marine Rescue) in, a service they provide in return for a small donation to their cause. VMR do a great service for folks sailing around Australian waters - the authorities here are amazing!
Drone footage: We were advised by a Park Ranger on Mariah Island it is not permitted to fly drones there - fortunately the Park Ranger was close by when we took off so being in full view of him he kindly explained the rules.
It is prohibited from flying drones over land in National Park Territories so the only footage we are able to get is from over water looking onto the land apparently and even then one has to have full visual over the drone.
We never knew all these rules apply so be advised when sailing into Australian waters to respect local rules around drones.

Riley does some Boat Songs too - be sure to listen to some of his music folks
He recently became one of the first modern musicians to complete an entire tour on foot, walking 1600 miles with guitars strapped to strollers from Portland, Maine back to Nashville, stopping along the way to play shows with Arlo Guthrie, Lyle Lovett, Shakey Graves, Town Mountain, The Lonely Biscuits, and many more. Currently he is recording his first full length studio album which will be available this summer. He is constantly compared to Bob Dylan or John Prine.

Ski Paddle - Fortescue Bay, Tasman Peninsula
I joined Roz Barber, one of our coaches at Next Level Kayaking, for a fun ski paddle out of Fortescue Bay on the Tasman Peninsula. We had awesome conditions and so were easily able to paddle in and around Cape Huay and both the Candlestick and the Totem Pole as well as The Lanterns, The Monument, The Thumbs and Dolomieu Point. Heaps of fun in the skis and great training for Roz's upcoming race in Mauritius.

CAPE HAUY | Fortescue Bay | Tasmania
Hey everyone,
In this video we explored the depths of Fortescue Bay in the south of Tasmania, near Port Arthur Historic Site.
We walked for two hours and eventually made it to the wonderful view of Cape Hauy, absolutely amazing!
Well worth the four-hour return walk and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Diving Fortescue Bay, Tasmania - The William Pitt Shipwreck
Canoe Bay, where the remains of a shipwreck. Built in the UK in 1904, the ship was a steam hopper barge named Andre Reboulas, later sold to the Dutch.
In 1907 she was renamed William Pitt and sold in Melbourne. She came to Hobart in 1940 for use in the construction of the floating Arch Bridge across the Derwent River. She was later scuttled in 1955 to act as a breakwater for small craft in Canoe Bay.
Diving Black Rock, Port Arthur
A dive on Black Rock in the lee of Brown Mountain, Port Arthur with the Tasmanian SCUBA Diving Club. The dive saw us descend to the reef sand edge at a depth of 52m where we had 40 metres of visibility. The dramatic underwater terrain, and the most abundant fish life made this a fantastic dive.

Three Capes Track: Feb. 8-12, 2019
Bushwalked the Three Capes Track in south eastern Tasmania from February 8th through the 12th (2019) as part of our honeymoon. Started with a bus trip from Hobart to Port Arthur. Then a one hour boat tour out of Port Arthur to the trailhead. Pennicott Wildness Journeys proved the bus and boat trips. First night, we stayed in the Surveyors cabin and then Munro and Retakunna cabins on nights two and three respectively. Then on day four we ended our bushwalk at Fortescue Bay where we again took a bus back to Port Arthur and a ride from our new friends Mike and Sarah back to Hobart. Great adventure. Shot all the footage using a DJI Osmo Mobile 2 and my iPhone 6. Enjoy!
