The Diu 16th Century Portuguese Fort, India
The Diu Fort was built in 1535 by the Portuguese during their colonial rule of Diu Island. Would you believe the Portuguese held on to this island and ruled until 1961 even though India became an independent country in 1947? The 424 years is said to be the longest period under colonial rule in the world.
The former Portuguese jail of Fortim-do-Mar floats peacefully offshore, no visits allowed. However, there is an active prison within Diu Fort with barred windows visible on the approach. A zig-zag entrance, elephant gate, bastions, arches, cannons, old churches...a humungous fort to explore.

Naida Caves l Diu Fort l DIU Part 2 - Endless Trip #Vlog 2
Naida Caves:
Naida Caves is the most amazing place in Diu. Best part is unlike in any other place, here it is maintained very clean and organised. The awesome rock formations are a delight to observe.
The cave seems to be created by quarrying by Portuguese in a peculiar style. Nevertheless it should be visited in broad daylight to see each part of the cave.

DIU FORT:
It was built in the year 1535 after the alliance between Bahadur Shah, the Sultan of Gujarat and the Portuguese when Humayun, the Mughal Emperor waged war to annex the territory. Portuguese rule over Diu and the fort is considered as the longest ever colonial rule in the world. They ruled over the territory for 424 years, from 1537 to 1961 (even after India's independence from British) and were ousted from Diu only when the government of India launched a military action called the Operation Vijay. Along with the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa, Diu fort was listed as the seven wonders of Portugal but during their colonial rule. This new achievement further highlighted the importance of the fort and put it on the world tourism map.

Paani Kotha:
Also known as Fortim do Mar, Pani Kotha is the name of a beautiful fortress constructed at the beginning of a creek in the Arabian Sea. The stone structure is situated at a distance of one nautical mile from the jetty in Diu, close to the village, Ghoghla. The fortress is built in the middle of the sea and has the form of a ship. According to legends, it was once connected with the land through an underwater channel. It commands panoramic views of the surrounding ocean, the jetty, Ghoghla village and the city of Diu.
