Four Winds Vineyard winery project
Our cellar door is up and we have invested in more winemaking equipment, now we need your help to expand our winery!
We are excited about the coming season. The cellar door has been going really well and we have just invested in some new winery equipment, but we really need your help to ensure we have enough space in the winery to make enough wine. At the moment we are in the good (and bad) position as we have sold out of Sangiovese, we are not far off selling out of Riesling and we need to find space to ferment more red wine before next vintage. The solution has been to extend our existing winery to create more space to ferment red wines.
This will be a simple extension to the existing roofline of the winery, a larger pad of concrete for crushing and de-stemming the grapes and insulation to ensure that things don’t bake in the summer sun.

Netting the vineyard 2018
Once the grapes start to develop some sugar the birds are ferocious so each year we net the vineyard to protect the crop. Here is how we do it. Thanks to the fabulous team; Ben, Ben & Nico for helping us out.
Harvesting the grapes
We are in the most exciting time in the vineyard; harvest. One of the elements that makes it so exciting is the amazing machine that picks the fruit. We are currently in the process of picking the Shiraz. Check it out.
Netting the vineyard 2019
Every year netting the vineyard is a big job, it takes six of us about five days. Lots of people ask how we cover the 30acres of grapes with the nets so here it is.

Shaw Vineyard Estate - Canberra Region
After searching for a location that offered the perfect lifestyle and a great place to raise their kids, Graeme and Ann Shaw purchased 'Olleyville' to plant the vineyard in 1998.
A year later, they planted 85 acres of grape vines, and became a grape-grower for Australia’s then-largest wine company. In the years that followed, Shaw Vineyard Estate began producing its own range of premium cool climate wines, winning an array of national and international awards for excellence.
The family business now employs their son, daughter and son-in-law, and a number of local staff. Graeme says their number one preference is to stay local, and use local suppliers wherever possible.
Shaw Vineyard Estate is a half hour drive to Canberra, and enjoys easy access to the vibrant Canberra restaurant scene. Graeme says that the Canberra region is gaining a worldwide reputation for quality grapes, with Canberra region wines now found throughout Canberra and Sydney. The business also exports wines to China, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand.
Of living in the Yass Valley, Graeme says that they love being able to use Canberra’s facilities, while living in the country. “Canberra is a half hour drive. We can get to the snow or beach within an hour and a half. And, we’re in a great country area for a great country lifestyle!”
