A Taste of San José del Cabo! Day Trip - CaboViVO Style
| A Taste of San José del Cabo
Thanks to its big-time fishing tournaments and boisterous nightlife, Cabo San Lucas is now the more famous of the two cape cities that largely populate the Los Cabos municipality. But this was not always so. Until the advent of the tourist age some 50 years ago, San José del Cabo was far better known.
Before 1960, there was little in Cabo San Lucas save a cannery and about 300 residents. San José del Cabo, by contrast, has been an important regional community for almost 300 years, since the Jesuits first built a mission there in 1730.
Not only is it the current seat of local government, but it boasts the sort of historic architecture unknown in Cabo San Lucas, from a beautiful old Catholic church to a stately City Hall topped with a nearly century-old old clock tower, and a courtyard filled with murals that trace the history of both the region and the country at large.
Outside City Hall, outlined by an enormous flag and the broad central plaza, lies the Jardín de los Cabeños Ilustres. This is the place of honor reserved for busts and plaques detailing the accomplishments of the area’s most famous residents, including Lt. José Antonio Mijares, whose elevated monument was built on the place he died defending his homeland during the Mexican–American War.
Nowhere, however, is this colonial style city’s beauty shown to greater advantage than in its picturesque and cobblestone studded Distrito del Arte, where each Thursday evening during tourist season galleries throw open their doors to celebrate the seasonal Art Walk.
Like Todos Santos, San José del Cabo has long been noted for its thriving arts community. Aficionados will find works both contemporary and classic, including high-quality painting, sculpture, pottery, glassware and jewelry.
An eye for art is hardly a prerequisite to enjoy the weekly event, however, since the Distrito del Arte is also home to a flourishing drinking and dining scene.
The state’s first microbrewery, Baja Brewing Company, is located in the heart of the Art District, as is one of the region’s finest taquerias, La Lupita Tacos & Mezcal.
The region’s burgeoning farm-to-table movement is also centered in San José del Cabo. Beyond the city streets and the sculpture lined marina at Puerto Los Cabos, acclaimed restaurants like Flora’s Field Kitchen, Acre and Huerta Los Tamarindos are returning Mexican cuisine to its roots. Literally.
The chefs at these bucolic eateries source their organic fruits and vegetables from adjoining fields, their seafood fresh from local waters.
| CaboViVO is your video guide to the breathtaking natural beauty, vibrant culture and boisterous nightlife that make Los Cabos one of the most spectacular and exciting places on earth.

Downtown San José del Cabo
For our last day in San José del Cabo we decided to go downtown. We went too early for the shops and community centers to be open on a Wednesday, but it was still exciting to see.

Cabo San Lucas Excursion - Lovers Beach and Cabo Arch $15
Cabo San Lucas Excursion - Lovers Beach and Cabo Arch $15
While cruising the Mexican Riviera on the Carnival Splendor we visited the port of call Cabo San Lucas Mexico. We decided to do our own shore excursion tour rather than booking something on the ship. After tendering into Cabo we spoke to the locals and booked a glass bottom boat tour for $15 dollars per person. This excursion included a tour of the Arch of Cabo, Divorce Beach, Sea Lions, Caves, Pelican Beach, Cliff Jumping and Scuba Diving / Snorkeling areas. We were also dropped off at Lovers Beach for a couple of hours and then picked up by our water taxi glass bottom boat.
Cabo San Lucas ( Cabo San Lucas Baja California Sur Mexico ) is full of history. If you find yourself saying what to do in Cabo San Lucas? There are many hotels, beaches ( Lovers Beach / Medano Beach) bars, restaurant and shopping that you can visit.
Many cruises also visit Cabo San Lucas such as the Holland America Eurodam, Norwegian Gem, Princes Cruises Ruby Princess, Oceana Insignia, Cunard Queen Victoria, MSC Magnifica, Princess Grand Princess, Carnival Splendor and more.

A walking tour of San Jose Del Cabo
A short walking tour of some of the sites around San Jose Del Cabo.
San José Del Cabo vs Cabo San Lucas Mexico (HD)
Cabo San Lucas
Cabo San Lucas, with its large marina and beautiful bay where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean, is famous for its casual atmosphere and exciting nightlife.
Long a favorite for sport fishing and those out to land the big one, Cabo San Lucas also has great beaches, lots of shopping and restaurants, and a variety of all inclusive hotels and resorts or for any budget. Cabo is also known for its famous stone arch, called El Arco, a magnificent natural rock formation at Land's End. Cabo San Lucas' long sandy main beach, El Medano, is the place for swimming and watersports (see Tours), with lots of fun restaurants in the sand, golf and postcard perfect views.
A popular port of call for cruise ships along the Mexican Riviera, Cabos is also a popular destination for Spring Break and a hideaway for the rich and famous.
San Jose del Cabo
Twenty miles northeast, San Jose del Cabo is Cabo San Lucas' sister city, a charming and romantic colonial town with the flavor of Old Mexico.
With the area's best surf beaches, a palm filled estuary ideal for bird watching, a sea turtle nursery and the La Laguna mountains to explore, San Jose is an ideal destination for nature and adventure lovers.
So if you are hip and pop you will like Cabo San Lucas. It is more touristy, with high end shopping, night clubs and it has that celebrity status.
I had that Las Vegas feeling in Cabo, everything is shiny, new and almost like fake, there is no real Mexico in Cabo at all. If you want night life then do go to Cabo it is made for that.
San José Del Cabo is more real Mexico. It has that small town feel to it and it is more slow, relax, outdoor, sightseeing kinda place.
There is no night life in San Jose...
Beaches are not that good for swimming in here, but for surfing they are perfect .

Cabo San Lucas & San Jose del Cabo
It had been cold and rainy in California so I decided to take a quick trip south of the border in December 2016. Almost rang in the new year in Mexico but decided to head home NYE.
We stayed at Cabo Azul resort in San Jose.

Our stay in San Jose del Cabo was amazing. We enjoyed gorgeous beaches (watch till the end!), a peaceful, artsy downtown area, where we discovered the cutest little B&B, plus, a beautiful home base - the Marquis Los Cabos All-Inclusive Resort!
