I was lucky enough to be invited to Rikuzentakata in Iwate Prefecture. We spent our first night at Hakoneyama Terrace, a gorgeous modern cabin-esque style accommodation in the mountaints. We then visited Fumonji Temple - which has been around 500 years!

Rikuzentakata, in Iwate Prefecture, is one of the sites in Tohoku where reconstruction work is underway to restore the coastal area. The city installed an enormous conveyor belt machine on March 2014, which shortens the city’s construction period from nine years to two years.

Students pave way for sister city
By Jessica De Nova/KTVL.com
Crescent City, Calif.-A group of Del Norte and Takata High School students were paving the way for their communities to become sister cities.
The American students had the opportunity to visit the Japanese high school after restoring and returning a boat destroyed by the 2011 tsunami, which washed up onto the Calif. coast.
The Director of Global Public Relations for the City of Rikuzentakata, Amya Miller, was in Del Norte County this week, to thank the community for its support and to take more steps towards creating a solid relationship between the two cities she said were very much alike.
In terms of topography, geography, city histories, industry, the types of communities that they both represent and the idea is to build a relationship between the extended communities, said Miller.
Miller said the best foundation for the sister-city relationship was for the high school students to connect first.
The Takata High School students hoped to fly to Calif. in Jan., a trip only possible with about $50,000. Miller said anyone interested in donating could email her at amya@city.rikuzentakata.iwate.jp .
What's next? New beginnings in Australia! Q&A.
I never really wanted to have to make this video but I figured it was the easiest way to let everyone know. I appreciate you respecting our privacy at this time. Thankyou.
