Japan Train Bento Top 8 Must-Buy at Tokyo Station | Japanese Street Food Tour
Japanese Street Food Tour and Japan Train Bento / ekiben Top 8 Guide at Tokyo Station. This Tokyo Guide shows what Shinkansen Bento to buy when at Tokyo Station for Japan travelers. This Food Tour of Tokyo Station reviews eikiben food shop options and recommends my favorite Japanese bentos. Street Food in Japan is amazing and the Japanese food offered at Tokyo station is a must try.
Tokyo station is one the main transportation hubs connecting local and shinkansen train lines. But what a lot of people don’t realize, is that Tokyo station has some of the most incredible food shops in Tokyo. And some of the bentos are a must pickup, before getting on a long shinkansen train ride.
Basically, there are 4 main bento shopping areas at Tokyo station. Ecute Keiyo Street, South Court Ecute, Ekibenya Matsuri and Gransta. Gransta is on the basement floor, while the other 3 are on the 1st floor.
Bento (弁当 bentō) is a single-portion take-out or home-packed meal common in Japanese cuisine. A traditional bento holds rice or noodles, fish or meat, with pickled and cooked vegetables, in a box.
Containers range from disposable mass-produced to hand-crafted lacquerware. Bento are readily available in many places throughout Japan, including convenience stores, bento shops (弁当屋 bentō-ya), railway stations, and department stores.
Ekiben (駅弁, railway boxed meals) are a specific type of bento boxed meals, sold on trains and train stations in Japan. They come with disposable chopsticks (when necessary) or spoons. Ekiben containers can be made from plastic, wood, or ceramic. Many train stations have become famous for their ekiben made from local food specialties (tokusanhin).
Ekiben were first sold in railway stations in the late 19th century, and developed at a time when meals on train were necessary during a long train journey.
Tokyo Station (東京駅 Tōkyō-eki) is a railway station in the Chiyoda City, Tokyo, Japan. The original station is located in Chiyoda's Marunouchi business district near the Imperial Palace grounds. The newer Eastern extension is not far from the Ginza commercial district.

LIVING IN JAPAN - TOKYO STATION'S UNDERGROUND I FOUND CINNABON! { A Daily Tokyo Life vlog}
Today Hiromi and I went to Ginza 6 mall for a bit of shopping and to get some food from a specialty food store.
Walked from Ginza over to Tokyo Station and walked / shopped around the Tokyo station underground mall.
Ginza Six - Ginza Six is a luxury shopping complex located in the Ginza area of Tokyo, jointly developed by Mori Building Company, J. Front Retailing, Sumitomo Corporation and L Catterton Real Estate (LVMH).The name Ginza Six or G Six reflects the building address in Ginza 6-chome as well as the desire to provide an exceptional six-star shopping experience.
Tokyo Station (東京駅 Tōkyō-eki) is a railway station in the Marunouchi business district of Chiyoda, Tokyo, Japan, near the Imperial Palace grounds and the Ginza commercial district.

Guys, I've decided that I'm going to take a more direct and honest approach with you, my viewers. And part of that real talk has to do with something most Youtubers are not that willing to talk about - money.
The thing with Youtube ad-revenue is that it really doesn't make channels money, and the only way smaller channels can earn an income worth the time spent making videos is with lots of low quality content, or sponsored content.
Thus, I started Patreon to help with the costs of producing these videos. There's a few costs like: travelling around Tokyo, entrance fees and the cost of my time (hundreds of hours scripting, shooting, editing).
A lot of my fellow YouTuber friends are using Patreon so that their audience can support them directly. I would LOVE to make working on this channel my full-time job, so If you feel that my content is worth it then please have a look at my Patreon page and help me grow TheTokyo Drew community.
Let's make awesome vids together:

- MARUNOUCHI
Marunouchi (丸の内) is a commercial district of Tokyo located in Chiyoda between Tokyo Station and the Imperial Palace. The name, meaning inside the circle, derives from its location within the palace's outer moat. It is also Tokyo's financial district and the country's three largest banks are headquartered there.
- HISTORY
In 1590, before Tokugawa Ieyasu entered Edo Castle, the area now known as Marunouchi was an inlet of Edo Bay and had the name Hibiya. With the expansion of the castle, this inlet was filled, beginning in 1592.
A new outer moat was constructed, and the earlier moat became the inner moat. The area took the name Okuruwauchi (within the enclosure).
Daimyōs, particularly shinpan and fudai, constructed their mansions here, and with 24 such estates, the area also became known as daimyō kōji (daimyō alley). The offices of the North and South Magistrates, and that of the Finance Magistrate, were also here.
Following the Meiji Restoration, Marunouchi came under control of the national government, which erected barracks and parade grounds for the army.
Those moved in 1890, and Iwasaki Yanosuke, brother of the founder (and later the second leader) of Mitsubishi, purchased the land for 1.5 million yen. As the company developed the land, it came to be known as Mitsubishi-ga-hara (the Mitsubishi Fields).
Much of the land remains under the control of Mitsubishi Estate, and the headquarters of many companies in the Mitsubishi Group are in Marunouchi.
The government of Tokyo constructed its headquarters on the site of the former Kōchi han in 1894. They moved it to the present Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku in 1991, and the new Tokyo International Forum and Toyota Tsusho Corporation now stands on the site. Nearly a quarter of Japan's GDP is generated in this area.
Tokyo Station opened in 1914, and the Marunouchi Building in 1923. Tokyo Station is reopened on 1 October 2012 after a 5 year refurbishment.
Much of the area was damaged in the deadly 1974 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries bombing.

SVCF National Project Request to Americans to Help Fukushima
This is the conclusion of Mr. Yamada's presentation on behalf of SVCF for the Women's International League of Peace and Freedom and the Social Uplift Foundation in Los Angeles on Sunday 08/20/2012.
Mr. Yamada is the President of SVCF (Skilled Veterans Corps for Fukushima). He has just completed a month tour in the US with Mr. Okamoto, also from the SVCF, where they visited the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, the East Coast and Los Angeles before returning to Japan. The purpose of their trip was to provide information on the situation at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant following the earthquake and tsunami damage and the subsequent melt downs and release of nuclear radiation into the atmosphere, land and ocean. SVCF bravely offers to work at the nuclear disaster site to help clean it up, and in order to reduce exposure of younger generations to such high radiation levels. They have been denied permission to work at the plant by TEPCO. SVCF is asking Americans and the international community to talk to our circle of friends and family, to our neighbors and to ask our Representatives to get involved by creating international pressure on the Japanese government and TEPCO to allow for a national project where international resources and expertise will be incorporated and an independent organization will oversee the clean up project.
The SVCF was formed in April 2011 by mainly veteran engineers and technicians, to work at the Fukushima Daiichi site employing their experiences and capabilities, in order to decrease doses of young generation working for cleanup at the nuclear plant. SVCF currently has 700 members and over 1600 supporting members. After visiting the site in July 2011, the SVCF has proposed creating a National Project Team adopting a Project Management System. Currently there is no project manager of the cleanup process. TEPCO, the corporation in charge of running the plant does not specialize in nuclear clean up. They have subcontraced 400 different companies to work at the nuclear disaster site.
SVCF's 4 Requests for the National Project
1. Project Team shall be independent from TEPCO (A profit oriented company doesn't have capabilities to deal with such a project and presently the project cannot be open and clear due to TEPCO's own interest.)
2. The Project Team shall employ capabilities, knowledge, experiences from all over the world (Fukushima Daiichi is more complex than Chernobyl, and larger than Three Mile Island 2. This project cannot be handled only by Nuclear Specialists. It's a very complicated engineering project. The Project members shall be from TEPCO, Hitachi, Toshiba and also experienced engineers from Chernobyl, TMI-2 as well as Bechtel, Fluor, TEC, JGC, Chiyoda and/or other companies.)
3. Integrated project management, including progress, quality, cost, and radiation exposure control shall be applied (Project shall be managed in an integrated way to avoid multi-layered contract system of subcontractors. Workers shall be employed, unless specially required, directly by the Project Team. Allocation of workers including SVCF's members shall be optimized considering dose in relation to age, skill, work place, etc.)
4. Inspection Team consisting of international members shall be formed (Independent inspection team shall be free to check safety, progress, etc. to minimize risk of accident and minimize the cost and time.)
Authorities Suspend Akihabara's Pedestrian Paradise
For 35 years, Tokyo's Chiyoda-ku has closed some major roads to vehicle traffic on Sundays and created a pedestrian paradise, making a nice atmosphere and preventing sidewalks from overcrowding in the popular shopping area. However, authorities have announced that they are planning to suspend the Akihabara pedestrian paradise following the knife rampage that occurred last weekend. It is not clear how long the suspension will last, but sources have said it will continue until at least the end of July.
Here's a Fuji TV news report about the decision.
Pedestrians interviewed were generally surprised and disappointed by the decision, and I have to say that I am too. There's simply no logical reason why authorities should close down the pedestrian paradise. This does nothing to stop a copy cat criminal from repeating the crime- anyone can rent a truck and drive into pedestrians by jumping a curb or waiting for crowds to walk across a crosswalk, and a determined madman could attack people on a sidewalk just as easily as in a vehicle street.
Combined with police tactics that include walking around with menacing nightsticks and searching random people, this new policy will no doubt make Akihabara less appealing to shoppers and tourists.
