University/College Internships in Te Wairoa, New Zealand
SUMMER SCHOOL,YEAR-ROUND INTERNSHIP AND VOLUNTARY PLACEMENT PROGRAMME INTERNSHIPS
I would like to introduce you to our student summer school, year-round internship opportunities, and voluntary placement programme.
These internship opportunities allow you an opportunity to experience heartland New Zealand, while contributing to strengthening this magnificent part of New Zealand.
The Faculties of Law of the Universities of Auckland and Waikato, and Wairoa District Council, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding relating to Summer School courses to be run via Wairoa District Council.
In addition to law, internships are available in various disciplines, and related projects can be undertaken throughout the year. These projects include:
• Administration and Finance;
• Archives and Conservation;
• Business studies: assistance with research associated with economic development opportunities, marketing and prioritisation;
• Economics;
• Engineering: assistance with Asset Management Planning and specific engineering projects;
• Film - various projects associated with the establishment of an international boutique movie post production industry and film school in Wairoa;
• GIS: assistance with data capture and management;
• Governance;
• Graphic design: assistance with web site, social media and print publications graphic design/ communications;
• IT/Information Management: assistance with the development of architecture and implementation of our financial management and reporting system;
• Journalism: preparation of materials for use with media, in advertising and community consultation/communications;
• Law;
• Maori studies: research relating to Maori issues affecting the district;
• Marketing - promotion of Te Wairoa as a tourist destination, a place to do business, a place to live, and promotion of the newly-revitalised Gaiety Theatre and of various creative festivals and events;
• Public health (including environmental health, food hygiene, alcohol and other substance abuse/social research;
• Software engineering - smartphone app development and extension of architecture already established by previous IT interns;
• Sport and recreation - assisting with 'learn to swim' classes, the establishment of new sporting codes and sports club administration; and
• Tourism: assistance with the identification of tourism assets/ activities, availability to potential users, and/or implementation of tourism and hospitality initiatives and/ or training courses
For internships which meet our requirements, in some instances we are able to provide accommodation for students, free of charge.
I trust that this information assists you in bringing these opportunities to the attention of capable students who believe that they can contribute meaningfully to the process of revitalising this rural and remote part of New Zealand.

Usually, internships are for a minimum 8 week duration. There is no maximum limit on an internship.
If you are an international intern, you may require a visa to undertake your internship. We can assist you with information relating to this process.
It is possible for a group of interns from your University/College to be placed with us, provided that the academic achievement of each of the students participating meet our high academic requirements.

(a) cover letters (clearly identifying the area of expertise that you wish to pursue);
(b) CVs;
(c) academic transcripts; and
(d) the contact details of your internship supervisor in your home University.
