Manchester is a major city in the northwest of England with a rich industrial heritage. The Castlefield conservation area’s 18th-century canal system recalls the city’s days as a textile powerhouse, and visitors can trace this history at the interactive Museum of Science & Industry. The revitalised Salford Quays dockyards now house the Daniel Libeskind-designed Imperial War Museum North and the Lowry cultural centre.
Manchester is fringed by the Cheshire Plain to the south, the Pennines to the north and east and an arc of towns with which it forms a continuous conurbation. The local authority is Manchester City Council. The recorded history of Manchester began with the civilian settlement associated with the Roman fort of Mamucium or Mancunium
Manchester achieved city status in 1853. The Manchester Ship Canal opened in 1894, creating the Port of Manchester and linking the city to sea, 36 miles (58 km) to the west. Manchester fortunes declined after the Second World War, owing to deindustrialisation, but the IRA bombing in 1996 led to extensive investment and regeneration.
In 2014, the Globalization and World Cities Research Network ranked Manchester as a beta world city, the highest-ranked British city apart from London. Manchester is the third-most visited city in the UK. Manchester is notable for its architecture, culture, musical exports, media links, scientific and engineering output, social impact, sports clubs and transport connections. Manchester Liverpool Road railway station was the world's first inter-city passenger railway station and in the city scientists first split the atom and developed the stored-program computer.
Manchester is well known for being a city of sport. Two Premier League football clubs bear the city name – Manchester United and Manchester City. Manchester United play its home games at Old Trafford, in the neighbouring Greater Manchester borough of Trafford, the largest club football ground in the United Kingdom. Manchester City's home ground is the City of Manchester Stadium (also known as the Etihad Stadium for sponsorship purposes); its former ground, Maine Road was demolished in 2003.

Genting Club Sheffield as viewed from Jurys Inn Hotel. The Genting Club opened in October 2012
This is a night time view of the Genting Club Sheffield as viewed from Jurys Inn Hotel. All of the street furniture around here has nice little lights embeded in it as you can see.
Genting Club Sheffield is located on St Paul's Place, Arundel Gate and opened in early October 2012. Olympic gold medallist and the city's golden girl Jess Ennis was guest of honour !
The Jurys Inn Hotel is located on Eyre Street which is just down the road from the new Casino.
The Jurys is very handy if you are planning on visiting the Genting Club or going to a gig at The Plug. The FreeBee bus service stops on the other side of the road to the hotel. Using the FreeBee you can pretty much get to anything in the City for free!
Its a 10-15 minute walk from Sheffield Railway Station.
At 0:59 you can just about make out the Cheese Grater car park. The distinctive £16 million car park was designed by London-based architects Allies and Morrison, The facade is made up of reflective aluminium plates in four configurations creating varying textures of shadow and light and giving a shimmering effect.

Places to see in ( Bolton - UK )
Bolton is a town in Greater Manchester in North West England. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition.
Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown, and at its zenith in 1929 its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. The British cotton industry declined sharply after the First World War, and by the 1980s cotton manufacture had virtually ceased in Bolton.
Close to the West Pennine Moors, Bolton is 10 miles (16 km) northwest of Manchester. It is surrounded by several smaller towns and villages that together form the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, of which Bolton is the administrative centre. Historically part of Lancashire, Bolton originated as a small settlement in the moorland known as Bolton le Moors. In the English Civil War, the town was a Parliamentarian outpost in a staunchly Royalist region, and as a result was stormed by 3,000 Royalist troops led by Prince Rupert of the Rhine in 1644. In what became known as the Bolton Massacre, 1,600 residents were killed and 700 were taken prisoner.
Football club Bolton Wanderers play home games at the Macron Stadium and the WBA World light-welterweight champion Amir Khan was born in the town. Cultural interests include the Octagon Theatre and the Bolton Museum and Art Gallery, as well as one of the earliest public libraries established after the Public Libraries Act 1850.

Casino Robbery on Christmas Day
This is the moment masked burglars raided a casino in Strangeways on Christmas Day.
At about 9pm on Sunday 25 December 2016 four men forced their way into Grosvenor Casino on Ramsgate Street.
The men targeted the cashiers office and repeatedly hit the reinforced glass with a sledge hammer for around 20 minutes before getting inside.
They then stole a substantial amount of betting chips in a variety of denominations ranging from £25 to £1,000.
Before leaving they sprayed an unknown substance onto the crime scene which officers believe was an attempt to destroy forensic evidence.
The men were all wearing gloves and balaclavas. One was wearing a light hooded top, while the three others were wearing dark coloured hoodies.
Detective Constable Saj Sardar, from GMP’s City of Manchester team, said: “We have released this CCTV in the hope that it might trigger someone’s memory.
“This happened on Christmas night, so the offenders would have likely left family and friends to carry out this burglary.
“Someone must have information about it and I would urge you to come forward.
“You can do this by calling us on 101 or if you want to remain anonymous, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
Anyone with any information should quote incident number 706 of 26 December 2016 when contacting police.
