ManorHamilton Castle - County Leitrim - Ireland
Quick video of ManorHamilton (Manor Hamilton) castle in County Leitrim Ireland. Enjoy!
Manorhamilton Castle in Manorhamilton, Co Leitrim withstood attacks in 1641 during the Irish rebellion but was taken and burned by the Earl of Clanrickard in 1652 during the War of the Three Kingdoms.
Personal guided tours conducted by the owners allow you to explore and view the Castle and visit the permanent exhibition from the period.
Learn why & how the Castle was built and later destroyed.
Prior to the plantation the area was known as Clonmullen or‘Cluain Maoláin’ in Gaelic, meaning ‘The Hillside Meadow’, and was occupied by the O’Rourke clan.
The present name in the Irish, ‘Cluainín Uí Ruairc‘, which translates as ‘O’Rourke’s Little Meadow’, also reflects that history.
The emphasis on ‘meadow’ in both names perhaps indicating that the location was a sought-after area of fertile farmland

LYRICS
Leitrim is a very funny place sir
It's a strange and a troubled land
All the boys are in the IRA sir
All the women are in Cumann na mBan
Every tractor has a Nicky Kelly sticker
Displayed for all to see
Sure it was no wonder that the Gardai made a blunder
Said your man from RTE
Today-Tonight they went to Ballinamore sir
They were briefed by the Gardai
On a video they showed to them the Provo's
Eating curry and drinking tea
They were all wearing Russian balaclavas
Each carried an RPG
British scalps around their tummy pockets full of stolen money
Said your man from RTE
Leitrim is seething with sedition
It's Sinn Fein through and through
All the task force have joined the local unit
The post office in the GHQ
They've a racetrack underground for training Shergar
No comment! Is all they'll say to me
Subversion here is bubblin' please take me back to Dublin
Said your man from RTE
Every bird upon my word is singing I'm a rebel sir up in Leitrim sir
Every hen indeed is laying hand grenades I do declare sir in Dromahair sir
Every auld crock of a Drumsna cock is longing to be free
Even sheep are advising there'll be another rising said your man from RTE

IRELAND: COUNTY GALWAY ISLAND FOR SALE
Eng/Nat
A rare and beautiful island paradise, up for sale in County Galway, Ireland, is attracting worldwide interest.
Several rock stars, including the Rolling Stones, Bono from U2 and even Bob Hope have all visited the island and have expressed interest in buying it.
While the locals want their area protected from the outside world, they're also keen to have a celebrity neighbour.
Lough Corrib in County Galway is regarded as one of Ireland's most scenic lakes.
It's the country's second largest lake and contains more than 300 islands, many of which are untouched by civilization.
The jewel of the lake is the 22 acre island of Inishanboe.
It and six neighbouring islands are owned by American millionaire Herbert Lewis, who purchased the land in 1982 for about $300,000 (three-hundred-thousand US dollars).
A modernised seven bedroom Victorian stone built house stands on the foreshore of Inishanboe, surrounded by a guest house, staff cottages, gardens, paddocks and woodland.
The self-sufficient island, including a marina and fleet of boats, is now up for sale for just $2.25 (m) million (two and a quarter million US dollars).
It even comes with its own Irish legend.
It's said that a woman was left starving on the island while her husband was away fighting the kings of Galway.
She and her child were saved when a golden white cow rose out of the lough and proceeded to suckle them.
Hence the island's name, Inishanboe, meaning island of the cow.
Lough Corrib is a Mecca for game anglers in search of salmon and trout.
Anglers the world over decend on the nearby village of Oughterard every spring and summer.
The pace of life here is typically Irish, slow and thoughtful.
The locals rely heavily on the tourist draw of the lough but they're wary of outsiders moving into their area.
The sale of Inishanboe is stimulating lively debate.
SOUNDBITE:
I'd like to buy it myself if I had the money.
SUPER CAPTION: Tom Mallon, boatbuilder
SOUNDBITE:
Oh they're lovely islands, oh they are. There are supposed to be 365 islands in the lough, big and small. Some of the are small, maybe only the size of a good rock.
SUPER CAPTION: Tom Joyce: former farmer
SOUNDBITE:
I'd like to see Bob Hope or one his associates buy it. Or there's another man who comes down here, Pat Hughes, the Rolling Stones, they were interested. I know they were interested, I know Bob Hope was interested. There are a lot of other people interested. This U2 man, Bono, he's alleged to be interested.
SUPER CAPTION: Tom Mallon, boatbuilder.
The present owner of Inishanboe rarely comes ashore to the village and then it's only to buy a few supplies.
The locals expect the new owner will continue that tradition.

Irish Pub Song by Sean Olohan (Track One Music, Wicklow Town, Ireland) in Oldest Bar in the world - Sean's Bar Athlone, Co. Westmeath, Ireland
By:- Chry_Martin (Martin Varghese -Ireland) Sung by:- Sean Olohan(Irish Pub Song - Music & Lyrics), Album:- Autumn falling down, (Track One Music, Wicklow Town, Ireland).
Sean's Bar is a pub in Athlone, Ireland. It claims to be the oldest pub in Ireland, dating back to 900 A.D. In 2004 Guinness World Records listed Sean's Bar as the oldest pub in Europe. Sean's Bar is located at 13 Main Street, Athlone, on the west Bank of the River Shannon, and was originally known as Luain's Inn. It is often colloquially referred to simply as Sean's.
The name of the town Athlone derives from the Irish Atha Luain, meaning the Ford of Luain. Luain was an innkeeper who guided people across the treacherous waters of the ancient ford. The crossing point and the pub date back to the year 900AD. Later, a settlement was established around the crossing point and King Turlough O' Connor built the first wooden castle here in 1129.
According to Frommer's travel guide, the bar holds records of every owner since its inception, including when Boy George owned it briefly in 1987. During renovations in 1970, the walls of the bar were found to be made of wattle and wicker, dating back to the tenth century. Old coins (which were apparently minted by various landlords for barter with their customers) were also found and dated to this period. The walls and the coins are on display in the National Museum. One section remains on display in the pub.

A Line Lain in the Kingdom of Breifne
In 1974 Richard Long made A Line in Ireland from stones somewhere on the west coast of the country. In the ancient Book of Leinster (1160) there is an obscure line of prophecy which reads, A line lain in the kingdom of Breifne will be a sign for old myths meeting new, becoming meaningful again for the people who dwell in that place. On 20th May 2012 Isabel Löfgren and Stephen Rennicks chose to both commemorate Long's work and fulfill the prophecy (Co. Leitrim is part of the old kingdom) by building their own line of stone on a ghost estate in Keshkerrigan.
