Glenfinnan Viaduct by drone - of Harry Potter & Jacobite steam railway fame!
This is the viaduct made so famous by the Harry Potter Express - the Jacobite steam railway between Fort William and Mallaig on the west coast of Scotland. It is at the head of Loch Shiel which also figures in the Harry Potter movies.

The Magic of the Glenfinnan Viaduct
“Harry peered out of the window… He could see mountains and forests under a deep purple sky…” – JK Rowling
It’s #BacktoHogwarts day; 28 years since #HarryPotter first took the #HogwartsExpress…spectacularly brought to life on screen with a Scottish railway icon…
The Glenfinnan Viaduct - one of the world’s most famous pieces of railway infrastructure and the longest mass concrete rail bridge in Scotland - captured the imaginations of a new generation when it appeared in the Harry Potter films.

Glenfinnan viaduct and steam train from the air by quadcopter
Saw a postcard a while ago with a long distance view loooking over the viaduct and down Loch Shiel which inspired me to have a go. May re-visit if the sun comes out while I'm still in the area...
Apologies to the steam train purists - it didn't seem right having a train with no sound, so the sound is dubbed because all the camera picks up is whine from the quads motors.
Music is from the theme from Local Hero which was filmed in this area in the early 80s - one of my top 10 films!
The Jacobite: Britain's Best Train Journey (4K)
The only word I could think of to describe this journey was simply, breathtaking. We were very lucky with the weather in July (2018) and as such the backdrop to the 42-mile journey was indeed breathtaking. Harry Potter fans will immediately identify the Glenfinnan Viaduct, which come up about half way along the route. If you want to see the Highlands in all their glory, this is the way to do it. The Glenfinnan Viaduct is a railway viaduct on the West Highland Line in Glenfinnan, Inverness-shire, Scotland. Located at the top of Loch Shiel in the West Highlands of Scotland, the viaduct overlooks the Glenfinnan Monument and the waters of Loch Shiel.
The viaduct is built from mass concrete, and has 21 semicircular spans of 50 feet (15 m). It is the longest concrete railway bridge in Scotland at 416 yards (380 m), and crosses the River Finnan at a height of 100 feet (30 m). The West Highland Line it carries is single track, and the viaduct is 18 feet (5.5 m) wide between the parapets. The viaduct is built on a curve of 792 feet (241 m).
The concrete used in the Glenfinnan Viaduct is mass concrete, which unlike reinforced concrete does not contain any metal reinforcement. It is formed by pouring concrete, typically using fine aggregate, into formwork, resulting in a material very strong in compression but weak in tension.
