A Day in Halifax-Lunenberg
This was our port stop in Halifax on our NE/Canada cruise on the Celebrity Summit on Wednesday 9/10/14. We decided to visit Peggy Cove , Mahone Bay and Lunenberg. Our private tour guide was Laila North of Go North Tours. There is no background music so that you can hear my comments.
PEGGY'S COVE & Leaving HALIFAX l Canada & New England Cruise Vlog l Ep. 22
It's time for the last part of our shore excursion so it's time to visit Peggy's Cove! WOW! What an amazing experience!! I booked this tour through Norwegian Cruise Line though most cruise lines offer it. The tour is called, CANADA: CELEBRATE OVER 150 YEARS! and here is the description from NCL's website:
“Celebrate the country with a range of pure Canadian experiences that includes visiting early settlements and landmarks and shopping for Canadian delicacies. After departing from the pier, you will settle in for a circuitous, picturesque drive through Halifax, admiring historic sites such as the Halifax Citadel, where the British built a fort and founded the town, and the Province House, Canada’s oldest legislative building. Along the way, you will hear fascinating stories about Halifax’s history, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and why Nova Scotia sends Boston a spruce tree every Christmas.
Continuing on, you will arrive at another extraordinarily scenic area, Old Town Lunenburg. Established in 1753, it is North America’s best surviving example of a planned British colonial settlement. The original layout and appearance has been retained so faithfully that UNESCO designated Lunenburg a World Heritage site. During free time, you can explore the brightly colored Old Town, which is easy to navigate because the streets follow a rectangular grid pattern designed in Britain. You can expect to see 18th-century wooden buildings and perhaps a replica of the Bluenose, Canada’s legendary racing ship that was launched here in 1921.
Later, in lovely Mahone Bay, you may shop or dine on your own, prior to visiting Acadian Maple. This family-owned business sells all sorts of Canadian delicacies, many made with maple syrup. Before returning to the pier, more free time awaits you in Peggy’s Cove, a quaint fishing community with one of the country’s most photographed lighthouses.”
As always, make sure to watch in HD for the best video quality! Hope you enjoy! :)

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Economy, Best Time To Travel
Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia and the largest city in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada. Halifax is a busy Atlantic seaport and the economic and cultural hub of Eastern Canada. Halifax is a major economic centre in Atlantic Canada with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies.
LOCATION
The city of Halifax is on Halifax Peninsula, on the west side of the harbour, with Dartmouth to the east. The main landmark is the Halifax Citadel, on a high hill above the city, and it conveniently divides the city into three districts. The downtown core is sandwiched between the Citadel and the harbour, making navigation a snap.
HISTORY
modern Halifax was founded on June 21, 1749 as a British military outpost. In the 19th and early 20th century, Halifax was the entry point for European immigration to Canada. Halifax proved its worth during the Seven Years' War against the French and later in the American Revolutionary War. The first permanent European settlement in the region was on the Halifax Peninsula.
CLIMATE
Halifax has a maritime climate, tempered by its position near the North Atlantic. Summers are pleasant although occasionally humid, and winters are relatively mild, but wet, snowy and windy. January is the coldest month, being the only month with a high that is slightly below freezing at −0.1 °C, while August is the warmest. Snowfall is heavy in winter. August being the year's warmest and driest month on average.
BEST TIME
The best time to visit Halifax is May through October. Summer and fall experience pleasant weather and usher in numerous festivals. However, these months also attract lots of tourists, so be prepared for steep hotel rates. If you're looking to avoid the crowds and the high prices, visit between November and February.
ECONOMY
The urban area of Halifax is a major economic centre in eastern Canada with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies. Halifax serves as the business, banking, government and cultural centre for the Maritime region. Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry and natural gas extraction are major resource industries found in the rural areas of the municipality. Halifax is one of Canada's top four container ports in terms of the volume of cargo handled.
TOURISM
Halifax's tourism industry showcases Nova Scotia's culture, scenery and coastline. There are several museums and art galleries in downtown Halifax. Halifax has numerous National Historic Sites, most notably Citadel Hill (Fort George). Just outside the urban area, the iconic Peggys Cove is internationally recognized and receives more than 600,000 visitors a year. The waterfront in Downtown Halifax is the site of the Halifax Harbourwalk, popular amongst tourists and locals

Walking Tour of Halifax and Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia
This is kind of a tour/history lesson of our experience in Halifax and beautiful Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. It was the second stop on our cruise from Boston to Montreal and we only had part of one day to see what we could see. The lighthouse and town of Peggy's Cove is about a 45 minute drive by bus from Halifax so that chewed up part of the day. Halifax is a bustling tourist area that was made even more busy with our cruise ship in port. We didn't have time to see any museums but our goal was to walk around as much of the city as we could in the few hours we had available. The waterfront boardwalk is a must-see and, if you get the chance, stop at the immigration museum.

PEGGY'S COVE NOVA SCOTIA NEAR HALIFAX CANADA 2003
peggy's cove nova scotia FROM WHEELCHAIR NOMAD DIARY... 2003 CC Richard and I continued driving to the scenic fishing village, Peggys Cove accessed on Highway 333 via Freeway 102 south and 103 west. The seventy-kilometre drive consumed ninety minutes. Highway 333 meanders slowly around inlets and through small fishing villages. Peggys Cove was in the news in 1998, with the crash of a Swissair Flight near there and the death of more than three hundred passengers. We visited the memorial site, situated on bare granite, surrounded by boulders, overlooking the ocean. They have gone to join the sea and air, the memorial read. Peggys Cove reminded me of a Disneyland presentation in Los Angeles or Orlando, Florida. Everything was a too perfect, too scenic, weathered cedar singled houses, rugged Precambrian era boulders and granite scraped clean by glaciation, dories, lobster pots, nets, and grizzled white beared fishermen in yellow raincoats and gum boots. Surely, these stereotypical fisherman characters were actors, I thought. I wondered if some famous landscape magician had been hired to stage this scene. Even the numerous tourists seemed to support the Disney illusion of a gigantic theme park. Yet this was a real, functional fishing village. I wished I could purchase the place and charge admission.

If you want to chip in to help move the channel a huge leap forward:
Moving across all of Canada from Victoria, BC on the west coast to Mt Uniacke, Nova Scotia on the east coast is going to be a very expensive, busy, and exhausting endeavor. But it's going to be well worth it long term...
We will miss the fantastic climate and awesome people here, but not being able to afford anything other than a modest rental apartment and being very limited in what kinds of videos I can do (and how often) is a major deal breaker.
The move is planned for September this year and is going to make the biggest possible difference. So many possibilities ahead...
