Chinese heritage is an integral part of Bendigo. From the goldrush to the present day, the Bendigo Chinese community has influenced the proud history of Bendigo – from its traditions of charitable works for local hospitals to its spectacular displays in the Bendigo Easter Fair.

The Victorian city of Bendigo ‘awakened’ its newest Chinese dragon – thought to be the longest imperial dragon in the world – at one of Australia’s oldest cultural festivals, which dates back to the gold rush.
All 4 Golden Dragon meet at the heart of the City - Alexandra Fountain - and will parade together for the first time.
Gum Loong (c 1890) will lead the dragons back to the Golden Dragon Museum along Pall Mall and into the Chinese precinct know as Dai Gum San.
Gum Loong is lead by Jude Schahinger (Objects Conservator), Anita Jack and Richard Louey.

Imperial Dragon Takes Flight to New Home in Australia (2019)
An imperial dragon, or “Dai Gum Loong”, created by a Hong Kong paper-crafting master and his team, is heading to its new home in Bendigo, Australia – an historical centre of Chinese immigration Down Under. The dragon was “awakened” at a ceremonial blessing in the presence of the Mayor of Bendigo Margaret O’Rourke and Bendigo Golden Dragon Museum general manager Anita Jack at a Hong Kong temple on February 2. “Dai Gum Loong” will take up residence at the popular Museum in Bendigo and have his first major outing at the city’s traditional dragon parade during Easter. “Dai Gum Loong” will carry on the tradition of “Sun Loong” who has been at the Museum for 50 years.
