NCBeerBuzz - Good Hops Brewing, Carolina Beach
In this episode of the NCBeerBuzz we visit Good Hops Brewing at 811 Harper Avenue at Dow Road in Carolina Beach! Patricia Jones sat down with us and talked about how she and her husband Richard jumped into the best industry we have ever witnessed in our half century of existence. Good Hops began in 2012 with their son John Garcia at Lookout Brewing in Black Mountain and then the family spread their wings and became the first brewery to double down in North Carolina from the mountains of Asheville to the beaches of Wilmington - all while doing it debt free and as a family business! They say their mission is to offer high quality fresh brewed local beer to the coastal Wilmington area transforming all new craft beer seekers into believers of how beer can dare to be different and remain pleasing in taste.
Wilmington North Carolina Breweries
The Wilmington, NC area has grown from 1 brewery to 8 in the last year and a half. We have 3 more under construction and even more in the planning stages. Wilmington has been named best riverfront according to USA Today, and best al fresco dining bu USA today. We also have great beaches and of course incredible craft beer.

Beer City USA with kids - Asheville, NC
We decided to slow it down a little bit in Asheville and try to pretend we lived there. It was nice to relax and reset. Our days mostly revolved around food, because Asheville has an AMAZING restaurant scene. Every single meal we had was so, so good.
All the downtown buildings in Asheville are Art Deco style, which is my favorite architectural style. It's a beautiful little city.
I tried on mom jeans in multiple stores, settling on the ones at Target, where they have triple shopping carts. Perfect for us!
Asheville is hip and artsy, and it has more breweries per capita than any other city in America. That's why they call it beer city!
We tried to go to the pinball museum, but it was closed, so instead we wandered through the community gardens. We drove up the Blue Ridge Parkway and went on a hike at the tree identification trail. Then we went to the North Carolina Arboretum.
We went to the New Belgium Brewing Company, east coast headquarters. What a beautiful and relaxing place to spend an afternoon! Totally family friendly . . . and they were playing 90's hip hop, so I was in heaven.
Last but not least we discovered Asheville Pizza and Brewing Company, which the girls loved because it was full of old arcade games.
Asheville is a gem. I kinda want to stay!

Resident Culture Brewing Company's Thunder Stud DIPA - Find Your Craft Beer Review, Episode 110
In this episode, I've got another amazing beer from Resident Culture Brewing in Charlotte, North Carolina!
Thunder Stud is a Double Dry-Hopped DIPA which is loaded with flavor. Incredibly smooth and easy drinking, this beer highlights amazing juicy flavors of lemon, lime grapefruit, honeydew, and mango. The sweetness from these flavors really balanced out the bitterness of the hops in this beer as well and it all came packaged in a beautiful-looking and incredibly easy-drinking beer.
This beer was somewhat similar to Vicky Virago, which Mel and I reviewed in Episode 108; however, this beer did have some subtle differences and flavors all of its own.
I absolutely loved this one, and I can't wait to see what other great things come from Resident Culture. Cheers!
