Gordon Dam, Strathgordon
A short video from our day trip to the Gordon River Dam at Strathgordon — about a 2½ hour drive from Hobart.
The dam is a double curvature concrete arch dam that was constructed in 1974. At 140 metres it is the tallest dam in Tasmania, and when at 100% capacity it greates the largest lake in Australia.

The Gordon Dam wall constructed with 1,540 thousand cubic metres of concrete, is 198 metres long and 140 metres high, making it the tallest dam in Tasmania and the fifth-tallest in Australia. At 100% capacity the dam wall holds back 12,359,040 megalitres of water; making Lake Gordon the largest lake in Australia. The surface area of the lake is 278,000 hectares (690,000 acres) and the catchment area is 1,280 square kilometres (490 sq mi). The single controlled spillway is capable of discharging 175 cubic metres per second. Approximately 48 arch dams have been built in Australia and only nine have double curvature.

A big thanks to the Hydro Tasmania, Aardvark Adventures and the Sunday Night program for helping us to make this shot a reality. It's been a dream of ours to make a shot off Gordon Dam since 2010. This shot breaks our previous Guinness World Record for the greatest height from which a basketball is shot which was 91m off the Euromast in the Netherlands in 2013 (watch that shot here: Next stop: The Burj Al Arab Helicopter Pad? Or the Burj Khalifa?
