New Zealand volcano: Tourists capture moment of eruption on White Island
A huge volcano eruption on White Island in New Zealand sent plumes of ashes and steam into the air. One person has been killed and police say more fatalities are likely.
About 50 tourists were believed to be in the immediate ares of the volcano when it exploded, sending massive plumes of steam and debris into the air. Jacinda Ardern, New Zealand’s Prime Minister, said that some people are unaccounted for, among them foreign tourists.

Somes Island: New Zealand
A short trip around the Island of Somes.
The island was given its Maori name by Kupe 1000 years ago. After European settlement the island was named after the Deputy Governor of the New Zealand Company, Joseph Somes. In 1997, in recognition of its bicultural heritage, the Geographic Board assigned the island its current name of Matiu-Somes Island.
Its harbour location made it an ideal location for New Zealand's first inner harbour lighthouse, a human quarantine station, an internment camp, military defence position, and an animal quarantine station.
Open to the public since 1995, the shroud of secrecy has been lifted from the island and its stories and relics of old are waiting to be explored.

Edendale is situated about halfway between Invercargill and Gore.

Invercargill inner-city redevelopment: proposed Esk and Dee Street views
The Invercargill inner-city redevelopment is a visionary project that will bring life and vitality to the CBD.
This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to give Invercargill a bright and bustling city centre where all manner of business and interaction can take place. No one’s ever done an entire block redevelopment on an already-established site and HWCP is excited to take on the challenge.
The development takes up the rectangular block of buildings between Esk Street and Tay Street, bordered by Dee Street and Kelvin Street.
Because of the scale of the project, the redevelopment will provide many positive flow-on economic effects. A labour spend of $80 million and 400 new jobs per year are projected to be required during the development phase. Once completed, the centre is expected to bring more visitors to the region and give them a reason to stay longer, as well as increasing local spend.
Solo Hiking In The Arctic Circle - Lapland Finland
Late summer in Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park Finland. I had time for 4 days but made it out in 3. I would consider the 55km quite easy, the trails were very well maintained and so were the huts.
You trek along the fells which 1.9 billion years ago were the Svecofennian mountains several kilometres high. The silence that occurs when there is no wind is amazing.
You can get to the Pallastunturi visitors centre by taxi from Jerisjarvi bus stop, it is best to call for that taxi in advance. I hitched a ride with another hiker so that was lucky for me. To get there you can fly from Helsinki to Rovaniemi or Kittila. You can take a taxi direct from Kittila, but as this was the low season I had to go to Rovaniemi. You require a boat ride from the end of the trail to Hetta, there are phone numbers posted at the end of the trail to hail the boat driver. It was 5 euros cash and luckily I ran into a nice group so I didn't have to call.
You can heat water in the cabins along the way so there is no need to bring stove fuel if you are flying in. I had no need for it. Surprisingly there is 3G internet throughout most of the trek.
The best part is having a nice sauna at Hannukuru it costs 7 euros. There is a men's hour as well as a women's hour so check the timetable.
I highly recommend going to eat a traditional Finnish meal at Hettan Majatalo after the long hike! Another spot to add to your trip on the bus ride back is Levi.

Thailand murder suspects forced to re-enact killing
Thai police have arrested two Myanmar workers they say confessed to killing a pair of British tourists on a beach in southern Thailand last month.
Thailand's national police chief General Somyot Poompanmoung said on Friday that the two suspects face charges of murder, rape and theft in the attack on Koh Tao, an island known for its pristine diving sites.
He said that DNA results, closed-circuit television footage and other evidence have backed up the men's confessions that they raped and killed Hannah Witheridge, 23, and murdered David Miller, 24.
The men were brought to the murder scene on Friday as part of the investigation amid tightened security and were made to take part in a reconstruction.
The Friday arrests came after weeks of pressure on police to solve a case that has threatened to damage the country's tourism industry.

Kaikoura 2015 - New Zealand at its best
This video is made in Kaikoura, in the east coast of the south island of New Zealand. It's fantastic how easily you can come close to New Zealand's fauna. When you walk along the beach in Kaikoura, the New Zealand Fur Seals just lie around everywhere. To see the sperm whale we had to go out with the boat, obviously, on our way back we where very lucky then: Even in New Zealand you don't see Orcas every day.
If you like the video, let me know, the next video is not very far away then. I got heaps of material, e.g. penguins!! How great is that?
Neuseeland - Teil 06 - Invercargill - Te Anau - Milford Sound

Prison fight: Super-max jail fight sends five inmates to hospital - TomoNews
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Five inmates were injured during a massive fight at Illinois's Cook County Jail Friday around 1:30 p.m., in the jail's super-max division.
The mayhem began when an inmate standing near the center of the room punched another in the back of the head. Another inmate was then struck, causing his head to bounce off a cement pillar. Out cold, he remained on the floor until someone pulled him away.
Nearly 30 men in the general population room were present, but some clearly didn’t want to be involved and stayed close to the walls.
Guards eventually brought the situation under control with taser guns.
Several weapons were recovered including two that appear to have been made from inhaler parts. Officials are investigating how the inmates got hold of weapons.
Cara Smith, a spokeswoman for the jail, said five inmates were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries, including stab wounds, but none of the injuries were life-threatening.
Four of the five inmates were in jail on murder charges while the fifth person was charged with armed robbery.

Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band—a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation—a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.
