Gosainkunda: The Sacred Lake trek in Nepal | A Complete Trekking Details
Gosainkunda Trekking in Nepal : This video diary shows you that where trekkers sleep, what they eat, how the condition of the tea houses are and trekking trails and of course scenic beauty of the region. It also includes the interviews with Local and tourists.
Gosainkunda pass trekking is an amazing, short trek in the relatively quite area of the Langtang region. You will be amazed at how remote this area feels, seeing far fewer trekkers than other more populous areas such as the Annapurna or Everest regions. This trek is pure Himalayan magic and all just a day’s journey from Kathmandu.
The Gosainkunda pass trek takes in the stunningly beautiful holy lakes of the Gosiankund, which are considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists alike. Many Hindus make the pilgrimage to bath in the lakes during the August full moon festival of Janai Purnima.
Heading over the Laurebinayak pass we then head down through steep terraced countryside to the Shivapuri National Park, just north of Kathmandu. The area is home to Tamang, Newari and Chhetri people and is a wonderful example of Nepal’s harmonious ethnic diversity.
In such a short space of time the Gosainkunda pass trek is a real gem, combining peaceful trails, majestic Himalayan scenery, a high pass, breathtakingly beautiful, pristine sacred lakes and a warm welcome from the famously hospitable local population. The Gosainkund pass trek allows you, the lucky trekker, to immerse yourself in this under rated trekking area and explore the exceptional beauty on offer !

Langtang National Park- Nepal
Nepal - Langtang National Park trek options
Langtang National Park trek options
In this video we'll outline the main trekking options in the Langtang region just north of Kathmandu.
The Langtang National Park was created in 1976 and was the first National Park in Nepal. It extends over 1700 square kilometres and protects fantastic Himalayan peaks and valleys, over 40 villages, extremely bio-diverse flora and fauna and some very important religious landmarks and temples. It is a fantastic place to trek for a few days or an extended trek
Access is easy, just a 2 hour drive from Kathmandu.
While there are many different trekking route options in the Langtang National Park, the three most frequent and spectacular treks are:
• To Langtang village and on to Kyangjin Gompa and often further up to Tserko Ri for fantastic Himalayan mountain views
• The high pass trek across the Ganja La pass -- also with fantastic Himalayan mountain views
• And the beautiful trek to Gosainkunda Lake -- sacred to millions of Hindus.
The most frequented route is to Langtang village and on to Kyangjin Gompa -- usually about a 7 day trek.
This is a fantastic trek for its combination of relatively easy walking, beautiful high mountain scenery with some peaks well over 7,000m , and the opportunity to experience some Nepali rural village culture and the Buddhist monastery Kyanjin Gompa. The highest point of the trek is the Tserko Ri ridge at about 4,490m altitude. The views from Tserko Ri to Yala and Langtang mountain summits and the string of peaks along the border with Tibet are some of the most spectacular in Nepal.
The initial Langtang trek can be converted and extended into a high pass trek requiring a few challenging days in the high mountains and some camping. This route is the Ganja La pass.
The Ganja La pass is normally attempted from north to south and involves a challenging walk up the valley wall to a snow covered pass over the range at an altitude of 5,100m. There are no villages or tea house accommodation on this part of the trek so a night or two of camping is required. The reward is spectacular views across the Himalaya range. The trek then continues southward toward Kathmandu.
Another option is to traverse the lower end of the range at the western end of the Langtang Valley. This is a trek through the Gosainkunda Lake region. The Gosaikunda area has been designated as a religious site. Hindus say Gosaikunda as the abode of Lord Shiva . There is a temple located at the lake and a large festival is held there each year. The trek may be added to the return leg of a Langtang trek or conducted specifically to the lakes. Some treks continue southward toward Kathmandu while other options return to the Kathmandu valley.
Probably best to plan your Langtang treks for Spring or Autumn. This avoids the mid-summer monsoon season rain and low cloud. While it will be cold in February and November, these are still good times to trek the valley if you have the right clothing, equipment, accommodation planned and a good guide with you.
So these are just the three main trekking routes in the Langtang National Park area. Plus there are lot more amazing places that can be included in a customised trek itinerary.
If you need help to plan your trek please contact Pamfa -- she has the answers to all your questions. We hope to see you soon at Langtang Ri Trekking and Expedition.

Langtang Kyanjin Ri Gosaikunda Helambu Trek
Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek to the high and isolated Langtang Valley via thrilling Lauribina La Pass (4610m), then to magical holy Gosainkunda Lake we continue south, leaving the gosaikunda region behind us as we travel through the Helambu valley to Melamchi Ghyang. and down to Syabru village inhabited by welcoming and culturally rich Tamang people, their religious practices, language and dress are very similar to those of Tibet than to traditions of their cousins in the middle hills. The area is famous for its pleasant local, unique tradition, Buddhist monasteries and monuments along the way and spectacular Mountain View. The trek first goes to charming Langtang valley following the river upstream through forest of pine, bamboo and rhododendron, uphill through pastures to arrive at the alpine meadows of Kyanjin Gompa where you will get exceptional Mountain View just a stone’s throw from the Tibetan Boarder.
The region is also home of Himalayan honey guide, mountain pheasant, musk deer and snow leopard. The upper Langtang Valley is one of the few known breeding grounds of the ibis bills besides the Tibetan snow cock and snow partridge. Like other Himalayan nature parks, Langtang has to be explored on foot. There are several possible trails to choose from depending on your favorite and time available. As per our Guide in Himalaya original version of itinerary this trek starts from a day bus/jeep ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. Many people start this trek from Sundarujal via Shivapuri Nagarjuna National Park and cross over Lauribina Pass then get to the beautiful glacial Gosainkunda Lakes. Then trek to Langtang Vallley; which is easily accessed from Syabrubesi can be reached in four days of easy hiking if you are starting from Syabrubesi; Once above Langtang village and the monastery at Kyangjin, Langtang are inhabited by people of Tibetan descent whereas the villagers of Dhunche, Bharkhu and Syabru further down are home to the Tamangs of Nepal´s middle hills.
Regarding the itinerary this trek will be 7 – 8 days long depending on your level of fitness and places of interest or day hiking destinations you would like to include. Many trekkers spend stay 1-2 days at Kyanjin and make excursion to explore the high valley of Langshisa, Tsergo Ri and Yala Peak which offers stunning view of the high Himalayas. This trek is open till the December and many trek through if the Lauribina Pass is open depending on winter weather that may cause snow fall.
