Hundred (1000 Islands, Alaminos, Pangasinan/Quezon Island, Marcos Island, Governors Island/Lakwatsa
The Hundred Islands National Park is the first national park and a protected area located in Alaminos, Pangasinan in the northern Philippines. The islands, totaling 124 at low tide and 123 at high tide, are scattered in Lingayen Gulf covering an area of 16.76 square kilometres (6.47 sq mi). Only three of them have been developed for tourism: Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island.
The national park was created by Presidential Proclamation No. 667, covering an area of 16.76 square kilometres (6.47 sq mi) and signed by President Manuel L. Quezon on January 18, 1940, for the benefit and enjoyment of the people of the Philippines and known as the Hundred Islands National Park (HINP). The Republic Act No. 3655 signed on June 22, 1962, created the Hundred Islands Conservation and Development Authority (HICDA), for the conservation, development and management of HINP. The park including Lucap Bay was transferred from HICDA to the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) by virtue of Section 35 of Presidential Decree No. 564.[1]
On April 27, 1982 under Proclamation No. 2183, the national park including Lucap Bay and its foreshore areas, beginning from Sitio Telbang to the east to Sitio Recudo to the west, were declared as a Tourist Zone and Marine Reserve under the control and administration of the PTA. Subsequently under the Presidential Proclamation No. 2237 enacted on November 6, 1982, the parcels of land reserve for the Marine Fisheries Multi-Purpose Farm (created under Proclamation No. 1282 of June 21, 1974) were withdrawn and were also placed under the control and supervision of the Tourism Authority for development purposes.[1]
The Executive Order No. 436 signed by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on June 21, 2005 transferred the administration, management, maintenance, and operation of the whole Hundred Islands National Park (HINP), including all the activities, facilities, and improvements thereafter, from the Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA) to the city government of Alaminos, Pangasinan in pursuit of Republic Act No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, which encouraged the transfer of power and authority from the national government to local government units, in line with the government’s devolution program mandated by the Constitution.[1]

Camiguin Island Cagayan Valley
The municipality's name came from the #Ibanag language, literally mean where #laya (#ginger) is abounded. A mission headquarters was established on #CalayanIsland in #1722. During the Spanish colonial administration regime, the administrators were #DonLicerioDuerme in #1896, #DonPedroAbad in #1897, and #DonAngelEscalante during 1898–1902.
Administratively, the Calayan island was part of the #Batanes group of islands. From #1902, Calayan was brought under #CagayanProvince. However, this change of administrative control resulted in isolation of the #islanders as transport communications were lacking. In #1916, #FrayAndresSanchez and #FrayGeronimoMorer, #DominicanFathers, visited this island and gave the island its name. It was only in #1954 that the #GovernorofCagayan, #JoseP.Carag, came to Calayan. The next visit by a governor was only in #1981, by #JustinianoPCortez, when a mobile government was organized to improve the health conditions of the people and to distribute medicine and food items such as rice, canned goods, and seeds. A repeat of this mission occurred in 1982.
In #1940, during #WorldWarII, #AmericanForces, who came by the #USSPrinceton, occupied the island. This was welcomed by the people of Calayan as it ushered prosperity to the island as well as provision of medicine, clothing and other items of utility. Schools were established by the American forces and they also functioned as teachers with English as the medium of instruction. They also introduced adult education programmers. In return, the #Calayanos offered gifts to the soldiers such as #ancientjars, sea shells and handicrafts. On 8 December #1941, the Calayan group of islands became occupied by #JapaneseImperialForces. During the early liberation period in 1944, the combined Filipino and American Forces seized the Japanese garrison, and moved the Japanese prisoners to concentration camps in Luzon.
Rocky northern shore of Calayan Island with the capsized #Philippinefrigate during the #typhoonClara (#September1981)
The rocky northern coast line of the Calayan Island was the scene of a disaster when the warship #DatuKalantiaw, which had served during World War II and subsequently under the Philippine flag, was hit by Typhoon Clara. The ship ran aground on 21 September 1981. Rescue and recovery operations were launched by the ammunition ship #USSMountHood together with the #PhilippineNavy units in a most adverse weather environment, and could recover only 49 bodies of the 79 who perished (presumably other 30 bodies were not recovered) which were taken to Manila to be handed over to the next of kin of the dead.
Calayan Island is located about 24 miles (39 km) west-south-west of #BabuyanIsland off the north coast of the Philippines and belongs to the Babuyan Islands group in the #ChinaSea. The island is hemmed between #Aparri and #Batanes islands and it is larger than the #FugaIsland, which is 25 miles (40 km) away. It is the second district in the province of Cagayan and its 29th municipality.
The #landarea of the island is 494.53 square kilometres (190.94 sq mi). It has a rough rectangular shape with rolling hills, spread over a length of 23 kilometres (14 mi). The island consists mainly of mountainous and uneven land, with the highest land in the centre, with low gaps in places. The hill ridge runs through the middle of the island and is heavily forested. The #MtCalayan which was once an #activevolcano is the highest peak here. The island is of volcanic origin and has rich deposits of #perlite, a #greyishwhiterock which is called as the #wonderrock. There are rocky shores and white sand beaches. Four rivers drain the island. #Corallimestones are seen at both the higher and lower levels of the island. The eastern part of the island has #basalticcolumns, which are seen in a good state of preservation.
The populated areas on the island are #Calayantown (Centro) and #Magsidel on the south coast. Calayan town is the largest among the Babuyan Island group and it is a small fishing center. The #PortofCalayan is used for shipping goats, hogs, cattle and timber.
There are three floodplains where rice is cultivated. Tidal coral flats that protect the sandy beaches between the settlements of #Dilam and #Dibay are also a distinct feature. The present access is by outrigger boats locally called #lampitaw, which takes the islanders from Calayan to the #PortofAparri and #PortofClaveria on the west coast of the Cagayan Province where an airport to operate small aircraft is already constructed.

Hundred Islands
Hundred Islands
Pangasinan, Luzon
The Hundred Islands National Park (Pangasinan: Kapulo-puloan or Taytay-Bakes) is in the province of Pangasinan in northern Philippines. It is located in Alaminos City, Pangasinan. The islands (124 at low tide and 123 at high tide) are scattered along Lingayen Gulf and cover an area of 18.44 square kilometres (4,557 acres). They are believed to be about two million years old. Only three of them have been developed for tourists: Governor Island, Quezon Island, and Children's Island. The islands are actually ancient corals that extend well inland, in an area previously comprising the seabed of an ancient sea. Lowering sea levels have exposed them to the surface and the peculiar mushroom-like shapes of some of the islands have been caused by the eroding action of the ocean waves.
The town Anda, located northwest of Alaminos City, is often called the mother island of the Hundred Islands. The Hundred Islands National Park is believed to be at least about 2 million years old -- the islands were part of an ancient coral area that extends well inland, a large area that used to be part an ancient sea. When the sea levels lowered, the islands were exposed, whilst hundreds of thousands of years slowly eroded the base of these islands invariably forming mushroom/umbrella shapes in the middle of stunning emerald waters.
Out of the many islands, only three were developed for tourism -- the most well developed is Quezon Island (which is actually composed of three islets) which includes 2 dining pavilions, a grilling area, restrooms, nipa huts, a small white sandbar, and a giant clam garden. Quezon Island was named after the former Philippine Commonwealth President Manuel L. Quezon, whose statue we saw on one of the islets.) Quezon Island is probably one of the most visited in the National Park.
Another well-developed island would be the Governor's Island -- which also doubled as the site for the Philippine version of the reality show- Big Brother. The island, one of the three most visited in the National Park has a short stretch of white sand beach, a small cave that is home to bats and swiftlets and a view deck which offers beautiful views of the islands of the National Park. The Hundred Islands National Park collectively comprises these 123 limestone islands most of which are clad in lush vegetation, secret coves, strips of white sandy beaches and sand bars as well as giant clams snorkeling areas amidst largely tranquil waters with gorgeous views of the South China Sea -- another 123 reasons to discover the Philippines.
