SEDONA AZ TO THE SOUTH RIM! VIA GRAND CANYON RAILWAY-WILLIAMS, AZ-EP44
While in Sedona AZ we road the Grand Canyon Railway train to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
The 1.5 hr drive to Williams AZ had to happen in the early am, because our train boarded at 9am sharp!
We took the bus excursion at the canyon that included lunch. If we could do it over again, with the limited time at the canyon, I would take the bus excursion WITHOUT lunch included.
We were on the Mary Coulter Luxury Parlor Train at $226/each.We would pick this same car again.

While traveling through Arizona we stopped in Williams and stayed at the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park. During our stay there we explored the town of Williams and discovered that a portion of Historic Route 66 ran right through the town. We inquired around and got a map to see how far we could go on the old highway. After leaving Williams, we headed for the National Park and spent 3 days exploring and hiking. What an adventure!

The Grand Canyon Railway in the Snow: F40's Roaming Free in Northern Arizona
Transporting visitors in style, the Grand Canyon Railway runs daily between Williams, Arizona and the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. With today marking the first day of Spring, I thought it was appropriate to close out the recent Winter season with this video highlighting this unique railroad operation.
Using classic ex-Amtrak EMD F40PH locomotives and vintage railcars, the GCRY is a welcome trip back in time, especially in today's world of new locomotive power invading the railways in the United States. I followed the Grand Canyon Railway operations on 2 separate days in early 2019 at various points along the line.

Railfanning at Williams and the Grand Canyon in Arizona
In 2009 my family took a vacation to Arizona, allowing me to watch some trains that I'm not used to seeing in Ohio. The video starts out in the town of Williams. While we were waiting to board the Grand Canyon Railway's excursion train, a short BNSF intermodal train rumbled by. Shortly after that, our train pulled into the station. Then, I included a couple shots taken from on the train. I was sure to include a panoramic shot of the Grand Canyon. We stayed in the Grand Canyon National Park for a few nights, giving me a chance to watch the passenger train pull out of the station. When we returned to Williams, I found a spot north of the town where BNSF's busy transcontinental route crosses over a road. Within the first ten minutes of being there, a BNSF train came roaring through the countryside. While watching the intermodal train roll by, I heard a loud rumble in the distance. To my surprise, it was yet another BNSF intermodal, which was moving up beside the first one at a high rate of speed. Those were the last two trains I saw while staying in this part of Arizona.

The Grand Canyon Railway (GCRY) is a short line railroad in North Arizona that primarily operates excursion trains on the 65-mile long section between Williams, AZ and Grand Canyon Village at the South Rim of Grand Canyon. The railroad has a neat collection of diesel and steam engines such as the about 60-year old ALCO FPA-4 and FPB-4 units, and the EMD F40FH engines, which are F40PH passenger locomotives re-geared for GCRY. Grand Canyon Rail Road, Carries folks from Williams, Az to the south rim of the Grand Canyon and has been doing so since 1901. Currently with modern locomotives and rail cars, However when I took this ride from the Grand Canyon down to Williams and back it was aboard the steam locomotive and vintage dining cars. I over all ride took about half a day as the train made it's way along the winding rail with views of valleys and forests that really gave you the feel of being in the moment. It was an amazing journey and I highly recommend that you take the trip.

Williams Arizona has so many neat things worth seeing like gunfights at 7pm in town, or taking the Grand Canyon train but there were many more things to do and see. Our schedule just didn't give us a chance to stay longer so it was a whirlwind tour, the other thing is that we just didn't realize what amazing places and things were out there to explore. But now that we know we are planning to return and spend more time and getting to know the areas and destinations better along with sharing them to a global YouTube public interested in travel.
