Nu Wave - IDPWD 8 December 2012
English translations:
Nu Wave is a bit like 'New Wave' meaning diversity like disability and deaf etc. This is for the International Day for People with Disability. City of Stonnington organised this event for Saturday 8 December for 11:30 -- 2:30pm. It is in Prahran near the car parking lot where Woolworth and Coles are located, is the park on the opposite which is the Grattan Gardens. There will be several events happening. For some of you who have missed seeing the Butterfly Hands poem, Walter and Medina will show the poem. They will teach the audience signs for the poem then everyone will be signing the poem together. Next, Loz and Brandon will do a hip hop dance using the same Butterfly Hands story. There will be a DJ, and everyone including people with disability will dance. There will be Zumba which is like dancing aerobics with dance music with a leader teaching the audience so everyone participates. Obviously a lot of activities will be happening there. The park has food places around you can buy meals, and there are BBQs. Umm... oh yes there will be information stalls provided by a variety of organisations like Vicdeaf. I think that is about everything but there are details on the flyer. I will see you there. Cheers all!

Who's FRANk?
When the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) of Australia partnered with google to seed the idea of tell us what makes your company tick and a great place to work we figured FRANk has a case.
Since FRANk's inception we have been asked Who is FRANk? hence our video clip was conceived. Anyone who has been here loves our view, our location, our balcony and hopefully the vibe. So in the guise of James Boag we expose who FRANk is by where FRANk is and where FRANk goes, we even borrowed a helicopter to capture that real-google map look. FRANk is firmly Melbourne based for lifestyle-satisfaction and fulfillment. We overlook Grattan Gardens towards the Chapel St end of Greville Street in the heart of Prahran. Aside from the 'work-thing' a typical week in our neighbourhood is that of massages, fruits, breads, cheeses and nice things at Prahran market, swimming in Prahran's heated 50m outdoor pool, coffee shops a plenty, multi-cultural eating options, iconic destinations such as Greville Records, the Greville St Bookstore, bars, clubs and of course Dan Murphy's.
All credit goes out to director Christian David Cordeaux at First Light Films (christian at firstlightfilms dot net), the Winston Giles Orchestra for their original soundtrack (winston at playupmusic dot com), Matt Knipe at mediaplay for helping us find Winston (matt at mediaplay dot com dot au) and our good friends with the chopper.
Please enjoy Who's FRANk
1378. Three Songs from the Balkans - Sevdalinka
Here are three songs from the Balkans, performed by the choir, Sevdalinka, at the 2012 Flavours Festival at Grattan Gardens in Prahran.
The first song is Jovano Jovanke, a traditional Macedonian song.
The second song, starting at 3:00, is Aj mene majka jednu ima, a Bosnian Sevdalinka, which is a kind of Bosnian blues, arranged by Samira Merdzanic from Bugojno, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The last song, at 5:17, is a Serbian song from Vojvodina, Volim diku, which means something like I love my dear.
Many thanks to textopisac for providing the above information.

SGS Seminar Melbourne - Is life in Melbourne getting better?
Answering the question ‘Is life in Melbourne getting better?’ is a multidimensional challenge. There can be no conclusive answer, because we all have our own views about what is important to our own lives and how our city functions.
Terry Rawnsley (SGS Prinicpal and Partner), Kate Roffey (CEO, Committee for Melbourne), and John Daley (CEO, Grattan Institute) discussed this topic at an SGS Seminar held on 20 August at the State Library of Victoria.
Extensive analysis was undertaken to inform this discussion. This is the most important question we can ask ourselves as a society, says SGS Economics and Planning's Principal Terry Rawnsley.
To understand the progress of Melbourne we must examine many aspects of people’s lives - their incomes, their work life balance, their health, the quality of their environment, their access to opportunities, and so on. These dimensions of progress are intertwined. To earn more income, people may need to work longer hours and so have less leisure time. Rising incomes can lead to greater inequity.
Harold Holt
Harold Edward Holt, CH, was an Australian politician and the 17th Prime Minister of Australia. Holt spent 32 years in Parliament, including many years as a senior Cabinet Minister, but was Prime Minister for only 22 months before he disappeared in December 1967 while swimming at Cheviot Beach near Portsea, Victoria, and was presumed drowned.
As Minister for Immigration, Holt was responsible for the relaxation of the White Australia policy and as Treasurer under Menzies, he initiated major fiscal reforms including the establishment of the Reserve Bank of Australia, and launched and guided the process to convert Australia to decimal currency. As Prime Minister, he oversaw landmark changes including the decision not to devalue the Australian dollar in line with the British pound, and the 1967 constitutional referendum in which an overwhelming majority of Australians voted in favour of giving the Commonwealth power to legislate specifically for indigenous Australians.
