NSWRTM Inaugural Melb Cup Aurora - 1 Nov 1999: Australian Trains
Over the 1999 Melbourne Cup weekend, the New South Wales Rail Transport Museum ran the first of what would become an annual tour to Melbourne with their newly restored Southern Aurora consist hauled by veteran Goodwin-Alcos 44211 and 4490.
Unlike subsequent years, the Southern Aurora ran into Victoria on the Monday and the RTM chartered a broad gauge train from the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre for a day tour of central Victoria consisting of a number of special carriages including Yarra, Avoca, Club Car and Norman. The broad gauge train was hauled by restored steam locomotive J515.
This video features the southbound Southern Aurora near Kilmore East during the morning and then some shots of the broad gauge charter between Clarkefield and Woodend.
Apologies for the shaky cam and overexposure in some shots. I was still getting used to my first ever video camera when I filmed this!

On Saturday 26 May, I headed up to the north east line to get some photos and videos of the train on its way to Melbourne. This video features footage at Longwood and Summerhill Rd near Craigieburn

48s on the Tottenham Branch
Shot on Monday 29th June, 2015 a trio of 48 class diesels are seen heading out along the Tottenham Branch which branches off the Broken Hill line at Bogan Gate, just west of Parkes. 48152, 48140 and 48144 were transferring hoppers to the Kadungle Silos, between Trundle and Tullamore. Due to the lightly laid track 48s are the usual motive power, a seemingly increasingly rare sight. Note the Kangaroos crossing the track in the second scene.
