Greater Manchester Police Museum
If you have an interest in local history or policing then you will enjoy the Greater Manchester Police Museum. Volunteer Danny Ewington talks you through what is on offer at the Newton Street base in Manchester city centre. Everything from a real court room to the Victorian cells can be seen at the Museum which relies on the help of an army of volunteers to ensure it keeps history alive.

Venture into the original Victorian cells with their wooden pillows and the Charge office of Newton Street Police Station where time has stood still for over 120 years.
Explore our galleries containing historic police equipment and uniforms from the region. Uncover the fascinating world of forgery and forensic science.
Admire the polished wood panels and stained glass of our genuine 1895 Magistrates' Court.
Our transport gallery contains a variety of vehicles used by the police from the 1950s to the modern day.
The museum also possesses extensive archive and photographic collections that may be viewed by prior arrangement. Family, local and police history enquiries also welcome by post.

Open Tuesday 10.30am to 3.30pm
Last admission at 3.00pm
Other weekdays by appointment for group visits
Closed weekends and public holidays
Please allow 1.5 hours for your visit.
All group visits must be by prior arrangement
Recommended maximum group number 20.
The Museum has access ramps, lift, unisex toilet for visitors with disabilities, Souvenir Shop and toilets.
No refreshments or parking available on site, but please ask about disabled parking.
The museum is a ten minute walk from Piccadilly Railway Station, Bus Station and Piccadilly Gardens Metrolink.

Prince William visits Manchester police HQ
(2 Jun 2017) Britain's Prince William visited police cadets on Friday in Manchester, more than a week after the bombing at the Manchester Arena that killed 22 people.
The Duke of Cambridge met Chief Constable Ian Hopkins at the headquarters of the Greater Manchester Police.
The May 22 extremist attack also left dozens injured.

Salford crescent police station (!! WE WAS NOT ALONE!! )
The imposing old Salford Police Station on the Crescent is a 1950s landmark, designed by Bradshaw, Gass and Hope, that was originally the headquarters of Salford City Police and C.I.D Division and, later, Greater Manchester Police Salford Division, before closing for good in 2008.
Apart from some artwork on its exterior, the old station has lay dormant ever since, until last year, when Stama Developments (Salford) Ltd submitted a planning application which would create 117 apartments within the complex and 23 townhouses attached to the site.
The inside is a mash of decay but a testament to a once busy police station he says The prison cells are there with the original doors, original cell windows original cell corridors.
