Budějovický Budvar Brewery Tour in České Budějovice, Czech Republic
The direct predecessor of the Budweiser Budvar brewery as a national enterprise was the Czech Share Brewery. It was founded in 1895 and its activity directly related to the historical tradition of brewing of beer in České Budějovice which dates back to the 13th century when the town was founded chartered for brewing rights.
In the 19th century České Budějovice was a town of mixed nationalities. However, the economy was controlled by enterprises owned by the German part of the population. As a former election order distinguished electors according to property and the level of paid taxes, the Czech people did not have any representation in the Town Hall in Česke Budějovice despite their majority. To be able to participate in policy, the Czech people had to strengthen their economic positions.
Therefore, in the last third of the 19th century, Czech enterprises were established. One of them was the Czech Share Brewery -- the direct predecessor of Budweiser Budvar. The initiative for its foundation came mainly from Czech brewers (August Zátka and many others). The Czech Share Brewery produced the first batch of beer on 1th October 1895. Up to the end of 1896, sales of beer repersented 51,100 hectolitres of beer. Today, the annual sale of beer represents a million hectolitres of beer. Despite great growth in the volume of production, the traditional quality and typical flavour of Budweiser Budvar remains the same to this day.
In the competition with German Měšťanský brewery and two Schwarzenberg breweries in Třeboň and Protivín, the Czech Share Brewery always won due to its high quality and the excellent flavour of its beer as first awarded in 1896 in the Industrial Exhibition in Prague. In the beginning of the 20th century ,lager from the Czech Share Brewery was also very well known abroad.
Since the period of its foundation the brewery has undergone permanent modernisation. In 1922 the first artesian well was bored and after some further time an additional two artesian wells were also bored. The brewery achieved the source of high quality water which helps create the excellent flavour properties of the original Budweser lager up to the present day. Since the 1920s the brewery have won market share in every continent, hence the brewery registered trademarks Český budějovický granát (Czech Budějovice Garnet), Budweiser bier, Budbräu and others. In 1930 the trademark Budvar was registered which became in a short time the synonym for high quality. In accordance with this registered trademark the brewery changed its name in 1936 to Budvar -- Český akciový pivovar České Budějovice.
During World War II the brewery was under Nazi administration and was nationalized after the War.. In 1967 an independent legal subject was separated from the former South Bohemian Brewery, Budweiser Budvar, national enterprise. This enterprise oriented its activity mainly to export based on tradition, valuable registered trademarks and quality of beer. Further significant development of the enterprise on the domestic market and abroad came after 1989 when in just several years the present management managed to increase sales of beer by almost double.
The national enterprise of Budweiser Budvar is today a modern and active company built on a strong foundation. The brewery has managed the strong struggle with competition that is supported by supra-national concerns. At present it is the last of the large breweries which has exclusively Czech capital. Due to the excellent economic results the enterprise can invest large funds into its development. Part of the profit is directed each year into the support of culture, education and the health system, in particular in the South Bohemia region. The evidence of the dynamic and personal relation to lovers of Budweiser Budvar are the new products regularly introduced by Budvar onto the market.
In 2004 it was Budweiser Budvar dark lager, in 2005 it was the modern and practical package of draught beer in cans. In autumn 2005 the replacement of 0.5l bottles was performed for the whole product range. The original brown NRW bottles were replaced with modern and top quality packages -- elegant green bottles of the ALE type.
Each year more than 40,000 tourists visit the brewery who can see the production of beer and can also taste it directly in the lager cellar. The multimedia presentation, the Story of Budweiser Budvar beer shows the history and presence of České Budějovice beer through plasma screens and 3D film projections.

Trams-Streetcars in Czech 4th Largest City of Plzeň-Pilsen
Trams or streetcars are a common sight in the Czech Fourth largest city of Plzeň also known as Pilsen. The first tram or streetcar line in Plzeň started in 1899.
Plzeň has about 173,000 inhabitants which makes it the 4th largest Czech city according to population, after Prague or Praha, Brno and Ostrava.
Plzeň or Pilsen was chosen in 2010 to be the European capital of culture for the year 2015 together with the Belgian city of Mons.
The city of Plzeň has the tallest church tower in the Czech Republic at 102 meters and the second largest synagogue in Europe after the Dohany Street Synagogue in Budapest, Hungary.
That's a bit of figures and history for you in case you wanted to know a little bit more about the place in addition to watching the streetcars or trams.
Enjoy.
Prague, Czech Republic - MICE Destination - Unravel Travel TV
The capital Prague is the most attractive tourist and meeting destination in the Czech Republic. The city of a hundred spires on the River Vltava is known to people from all over the world and ranks among the most beautiful cities in Europe. Those who want to get to know the Czech Republic more thoroughly, however, set out on a journey through the other beauties of the country, where an expedition into history, a ramble through nature, a challenge on the golf course or relaxation in a spa awaits.
INSPIRING: The city's mysterious atmosphere reflects in the works of Prague's native son Franz Kafka. W.A.Mozart, whose people of Prague understood, completed and first performed his best opera Don Giovanni here. Prague also became an important university centre which gave the world a number of personalities without whose discoveries and inventions we could hardly imagine our today's life. Prague is never off season. It is inherently linked with excellent operas, concerts, theatre and ballet performances. Every year Prague hosts renowned gathering of world's best classical music players Prague Spring, a number of international film festivals, Prague International Jazz Festival and many others.
CONNECTING: Prague has always been a crossroad of the most important trading routes, as well as cultural and political centre of Europe. One of its major landmarks, Charles Bridge, symbolizes the historical connection between East & West that made Prague the place where elements of Slavic, German, French and Jewish cultures merged to create a picturesque city with unique atmosphere and magic. One of the safest destinations with a great infrastructure offers a number of venues of different kinds. The city has a long tradition in hosting significant international meetings.
ACCESSIBLE: Prague's location in the heart of Europe makes the city easily accessible to travelers from almost all countries. 58 airlines fly to 121 destinations in 43 countries from Václav Havel Airport Prague, which is one of the busiest in Central Europe. Every year, 11 million passengers pass through its gates. Prague has three international railway stations and a bus station, all connected to the metro.Highway network links Prague to other significant European destinations. Due to the city's public transportation system, which is the fourth best in Europe, everything can be reached within a few minutes. Moreover, Prague is a green and very walkable destination offering a wide range of attractions in a small area. Museums, restaurants, historical monuments, relaxation and entertainment - all are literally at your arm's length.
TRADITIONALLY MODERN: Prague is rich in architectonic monuments, cultural heritage and historical sights, but at the same time it is modern and dynamic. The city offers many options: you can hold a meeting in one of monumental historical palaces as well as comfortable contemporary venues. You can have a pint in traditional Czech breweries or enjoy Haute Cuisine in Michelin starred restaurants. You can take a historical tram ride or use the efficient public transportation services. All this together makes Prague an extraordinary attractive place ideal for any type of meetings and incentive programs.
VALUE FOR MONEY: Prague offers world-class services at a reasonable cost. Prague is famous for its hospitality and excellent infrastructure. Local hotels can accommodate more than 90.000 persons in more than 42,000 rooms. Prague Congress Centre, which can host meetings for more than 9,000 delegates, boasts of one of the best views in the world. Prague's DMCs and PCOs provide high standard and complex services. This is why Prague is an ideal destination for international meetings.

Czech Greenway Prague-Vienna, samples from our July 2011 trip
Just wanted to put this up to give people thinking about doing the Greenway an idea of what the paths and roads look like. More info about the Prague-Vienna Greenway (AKA Prag-Wien, AKA Praha-Viden) here:
The trail is made up of lesser-traveled roads, paved bike paths, gravel roads, and gravel trails (in about that order.) It passes through some wonderful little cities most people haven't heard of along with some great European history.

Details Video of Frankfurt Cathedral, Germany | Imperial Cathedral of Saint Bartholomew
Frankfurt’s red-sandstone cathedral is dominated by a 95m-high Gothic tower, which can be climbed via 324 steps. Construction began in the 13th century; from 1356 to 1792, the Holy Roman Emperors were elected (and, after 1562, consecrated and crowned) in the Wahlkapelle at the end of the right aisle (look for the 'skull' altar). The cathedral was rebuilt both after an 1867 fire and after the bombings of 1944, which left it a burnt-out shell.

Prague, capital city of the Czech Republic, is bisected by the Vltava River. Nicknamed “the City of a Hundred Spires,” it's known for its Old Town Square, the heart of its historic core, with colourful baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval Astronomical Clock, which gives an animated hourly show. Completed in 1402, pedestrian Charles Bridge is lined with statues of Catholic saints.

České Budějovice Train Station from Train Going North to Prague
Watch České Budějovice train station from a train going north to Prague. Before the train leaves the station and starts moving on its journey, you can see another train arrive from Český Krumlov. As this train is using its brakes you can hear the screeching, squeaking noise so characteristic of all communist era trains still in service today.
The station buildings can be seen for quite a while as the train is moving away from it. you can see some city buildings after that for a brief moment before the sound walls obstruct any view of the city which was available until recently before the walls were installed. The sound barrier or wall is unnecessarily tall since most of the noise comes from the train wheels rolling on the rails.
I have never seen so many sound barriers on any other train line anywhere as there are on the way from České Budějovice to Praha or Prague. While they make some sense in the city, albeit not as tall as they are being built, they shouldn't be installed in the vicinity of small villages or hamlets where there are only a few houses but the sound wall is hundreds of meters long. This obstructs the view and takes away much of the enjoyment of train travel.
Luckily, in this video there are several tracks with sets of trains parked on them between the sound barrier and the moving train from which this video is taken for the most part from the time the sound wall appears so there is still something interesting to look at till the video ends.
If you'd like to also see a video from the train line going south and have a look at the rail yards and a lot more of this South Bohemian capital city from the train going to Linz you can do so by clicking on the link below:
Enjoy.
Must Know Tips for Prague | Prague Travel Tips
In this video, I share with you the most useful tips for Prague. These are some must-know tips that you might not find anywhere else!
These tips are based on our travel and hope it will make your trip to Prague more enjoyable.
1. Money Exchange: Unfortunately, Money exchange involves a big scam in the country. Not all exchanges are good and most try to fool you by displaying inviting exchange rates but applying hidden charges so that you end up losing a lot of money. As per Czech laws, you need to sign a slip, which is a kind of an agreement that you accept the exchange rate. Always ask the counter to share with you the exact amount that they will give you before signing anything. Remember, even the places that display “No commission” can also apply hidden charges, so you need to ask for the exact amount. There are some good places as well for suitable rates. One we found was at Mustek Metro station that charges no commission and gives you good value for money.
2. Public Transport in Prague: includes Metros, buses, and trams. Trams are best for the central area. You can buy daily tickets or 30min or 90-minute tickets. Kids less than 9 years travel for free but keep an age proof with photo ID. For tickets, coins are accepted on machines so keep them handy.
Tram is tram number 22 goes to popular places like Prague Castle, you get splendid views of the city in this tram.
3. Where to eat? : I'll share with you 3 places to eat that we really liked in Prague.
a. Maitrae - It’s a vegetarian restaurant that serves local dishes with a vegetarian twist. The ambiance is great, food is finger-licking good! DO not miss it if you are in Prague!!!
b. Bella Vida Cafe: This one has an amazing location! Right on the river, but away from the maddening crowds! Choose outside seating by the river! Food was also quite good and you don’t pay through your nose.
c. Restaurant Praha at Airport Terminal 1: After check-in, if you’d like to eat at Prague airport, this should be your go-to option! It’s buffet-style self-service good food at an amazing price. Follow directions for Food Court
4. How to beat the crowds?
Prague is becoming really popular among tourists. In peak season, it is SOOO crowded! But, Prague is certainly an amazing city and has to be on everyone’s bucket list. To avoid the crowds, all you need to do is, go early and see the most common places before the crowds arrive! Make sure you reach by 6 to 7 am.
5. Airport Transfers: Unfortunately, Prague airport does not have direct metro connectivity.
Bus number 119 goes directly to Departure terminals from one of the stops of Metro line A which is a green line. We used it while coming back and Bus stop was right outside the metro station. There was a good luggage space on the bus also. Usually, this journey takes more than 30mins from the city center so 90 minutes ticket is more suitable.
There are more such options. e.g. A combination of bus 100 and Metro line B which is Yellow line.
More details here:
Bonus Tip:- Day trip to Cesky Krumlov. You can plan day trips to many nearby places from Prague. One such place is Cesky Krumlov. It’s a small old town around 2 hours drive from Prague. It’s like a place from fairy tales, a very small town with orange roofed buildings, a castle, bell tower, river flowing from within the town. We took a free walking tour, roamed around in the streets and had our meal at a restaurant just by the river. We took the Regio Jet bus for the journey and it was quite good.
