Greenbelt Mall in Makati City, Philippines Part 3/5
After taking pictures with Greenbelt 5 at the background, we continued walking through the park and eventually headed to the chapel area. There is a man-made pond just outside the chapel, with fish adding beauty and serenity to the environment. It's a great place to hang out for nature lovers. After stopping the video, I then noticed that I was missing my black zip folder. I had to walk all the way back to Italianni's to get it. But I didn't bother getting that on video. But thank goodness I got it back! :) Makati City, Philippines Dec. 25, 2012 .

GREENBELT MAKATI TOUR - Great Area to Stay in Manila
Philippines Travel Vlog
Makati –
In today’s show, we’ll take a tour around Makati, we’ll visit Greenbelt Shopping area and stop off at Suez & Zapote to check out some unique streetwear from designers here in the Philippines.
Shopping malls are very popular here in the Philippines. I thought I would check out Greenbelt.
It’s Sunday so many people are off work and enjoying the day here at Greenbelt.
Greenbelt is a complex of 5 shopping malls located here in Makati, within Metro Manila. The mall offers a mix of high-end retail shops, restaurants.
The 5 separate buildings are connected by a large public park with ponds and water features.
There’s a Catholic Mass going on over here, you can hear the music. Let’s go take a closer look.
Santo Niño de Paz Chapel
The chapel is an open-air, concrete dome in the middle of a pond.
Currently, the mall has five sections:
Greenbelt 1 features mostly appliance and supply stores.
Greenbelt 3 features a mix of international brands and it also has a cinema.
Greenbelt 4 features high-end boutiques.
Greenbelt 5 has boutiques of Filipino designers, high-end department store Adora and boutiques.
Restaurants can be found in Greenbelt 1, 2, 3, and 5. Greenbelt 1 concentrates more on fast-food, while Greenbelt 2, 3, and 5 feature sit-down restaurants.
I
Is it safe to walk in Makati at night?
Makati is a very safe area, there are plenty of police and security guards present. During the day, over 600K people work in Makati, at night, a few hundred thousand residents and call center workers are there. It's crowded during the day and quiet at night and on Sundays. Every once in a while, crime is reported in Makati, but it’s usually non-violent.
Makati is also known for being a major cultural and entertainment hub in Metro Manila, so there is a lot to do in the area. The city of Makati remains the richest local government within the Philippines in terms of income from local sources. What that means s there’s a lot of financially strong businesses here, there’s a lot of jobs here and it’s also very expensive here, one of the most expensive places to live in the Philippines. There are many shopping centers around Makati City, offering both international and local retail shops, high-end boutiques, restaurants and entertainment facilities.
Makati City's cost of living is significantly higher compared to neighboring Filipino cities, owing primarily to its skyrocketing real estate value and relatively upscale commercial and residential properties.
Getting around Makati is easy except during rush hour when the traffic is a gridlock. Walking may be faster during peak traffic times. There are pedestrian underpasses and signage letting you know walking distances in minutes. There’s also raised walkways. The long wheel-based Jeeps, called Jeepneys are cheap and popular with the locals. There are also buses. Taxis and Grab are available but may be hard to find during high traffic times.
The Suez & Zapote store In Makati stocks local Philippine streetwear designers like Daily Grind and Team Manila. Team Manila streetwear is known for its cool, casual graphic t-shirts that have nationalistic themes displaying #PinoyPride.
The brand logo, for example, is national hero Jose Rizal with a modern twist, He’s wearing sunglasses.
Jose was a Filipino nationalist and writer who encouraged political reforms for the colony while it was under Spain’s rule.
José Rizal Quotes:
“The youth is the hope of our future.”
“He who does not know how to look back at where he came from will never get to his destination.”
I can see why Team Manila used Jose Rizal's image as their logo and I think if Jose was around today he might be wearing one of these shirts.
You’ll find graphic interpretations from everyday life in the Philippines. (Jeepney Shirt)
With graphics that feature limited edition silkscreen artwork. The designs draw inspiration from urban lifestyle and culture as well as imagery of the Philippines. (Street Food Shirt)
They also aren’t afraid of getting political, as seen in their “West Philippine Sea” shirt collection, which shows support for the Philippines’ claim on the disputed area.
In 2011, the Philippines Government started using the term West Philippine Sea, disputing China's sovereignty claim over the whole South China Sea. By 2012, the Philippine government was using the name on maps and other documents.

Greenbelt Makati, The Philippines - January 2010
This is the area known as Greenbelt in Makati, the heart of Manila's financial district. These days it's a theater and mall complex, but when I was a boy it was a small church and a large bird aviary. I remember going to this aviary on many a field trip when I was in grade school. The church is still there but the aviary is long gone.
