Canmore Adventures: Hiking Grotto Canyon
Grotto Canyon is a relatively simple trail walk with interesting features that make it a very worthwhile excursion. Walking between the narrow walls of the canyon provides an eerie experience and at the end of the canyon there is a small waterfall and cave to explore. You can also find ancient pictographs painted on the canyon walls if you know where to look!

Grotto Canyon Hike 2019 | Journey Alberta
Hey everyone, I'm back! It's been a while, but I'm back with a new video of one of my favourite hikes I do annually, Grotto Canyon in the Bow Valley Provincial Park! It's an easy trail that takes my girlfriend and I into a canyon. We walk along a frozen creek and see the Hopi tribe pictographs on the rock walls as well as the ice waterfalls at the end of the trail.

Hiking Grotto Canyon | Canmore | Alberta | Canada
A hike through Grotto Canyon, near Canmore, Alberta, Canada. The hike follows a creek bed through high wall gorge, includes a waterfall, cave and native pictographs. A great short hike for a 1/2 days exploring.
The Grotto Canyon Ice Walk Near Banff/Canmore (4K) | Journey Alberta
I explore Grotto Canyon near Canmore with my friend Jesse in February, 2016. The ice walk was fairly easy to do, despite us not having ice cleats on our shoes. There were even some native paintings on the walls near the end of the ice walk! At the end there were 2 massive frozen waterfalls, where some people also climb up during colder months.

Grotto Canyon Hike and Pictographs - Best Easy Hike near Canmore ?
Had an awesome time exploring Grotto Canyon near Canmore, Alberta in the Rocky Mountains. Myself and the family found this hike to be very rewarding. We got to see a red fox, beautiful landscape and some pictographs. It felt very special to find the pictographs left by first peoples hundreds of years ago, and to imagine them standing exactly where we were standing, what did they look like ? How did they survive in this area ? The hike took us about 2 hours going slowly and walking on slippery freezing rocks.

Summer Hiking at Grotto Canyon near Canmore (4K) | Journey Alberta
I journey into the Rocky Mountains near Exshaw and Canmore with my friend Jesse to see what Grotto Canyon looks like in the summer. We see many places to rock climb, he wall drawings by Aboriginal people, and a waterfall tucked away behind some rocks. After the waterfall area we venture further in the canyon to see a mostly washed away cave. It was mostly washed away during the 2013 Alberta Floods, and now only goes back half a meter and is dangerous to climb up to.

Grotto Canyon Trail Hike in Canmore, Alberta, Canada
This is a walk through the canyon, just before you reach the waterfall. Late spring, shoulder season. Trail conditions were perfect
GROTTO MOUNTAIN Scramble - Direct Route - Canmore, Alberta
This is my Solo ascent of the Direct scrambling route up Grotto Mountain in Canmore, Alberta. The summit was a 4 hour hike and conditions were favorable as there was little to no avalanche risk. A couple of cornices to be aware of however they could be easily avoided. 1375m elevation gain over 6:45 return. 8.7 kms.
PS - Always take care in the winter and know your limits as well as the conditions you are surrounding yourself with. Know what to do and more importantly NOT DO. This climb was fairly straightforward however there are corniced edges that are hard to determine where the rock ends and the cornice begins. Take a cautious approach in winter. #thenorthface @thenorthface

Scrambling Grotto Mountain - Direct Route - Canmore Alberta
Began the day with the intention of simply exploring the canyon, but decided to scramble the peak as section of the canyon seemed blocked by ice. I took the direct route as it's known which is shorter but slightly more difficult - still an easy, or easy-medium scramble (probably depending on your path finding skills - as there are more difficult sections of scree mixed in with easier sections).
