Sanxingdui (Chinese: 三星堆; pinyin: Sānxīngduī; literally: three stars mound) is the name of an archaeological site and the previously unknown Bronze Age culture for which it is the type site. Sanxingdui is now believed to be the site of a major ancient Chinese city in what is now Sichuan, China. The Bronze Age culture which was first discovered in 1929 and then re-discovered in 1986 when archaeologists excavated remarkable artifacts, that radiocarbon dating dated as being from the 12th-11th centuries BCE. The culture that produced these artifacts is now known as the Sanxingdui Culture, and archaeologists are identifying it with the ancient kingdom of Shu. The artifacts are displayed in the Sanxingdui Museum located near the city of Guanghan.
The discovery at Sanxingdui, as well as other discoveries such as the Xingan tombs in Jiangxi, challenges the traditional narrative of Chinese civilization spreading from the central plain of the Yellow River, and Chinese archaeologists have begun to speak of multiple centers of innovation jointly ancestral to Chinese civilization.

The Sanxingdui Museum is located in the northeast corner of the ruins of Sanxingdui, which is at the bank of Duck River in the west of Guanghan City, Sichuan Province, known as a famous historical and cultural city. It is 38 kilometers north from Chengdu and 26 kilometers south from Deyang. It is a large modern thematic museum. The foundation of the museum was laid in August 1992 and it was formally opened to the public in October 1997.

Suspected North Wall of Ancient Sanxingdui Ruins Discovered in Sichuan, China
Chinese archeologists may have discovered the north wall of the Sanxingdui ancient city in southwest China's Sichuan Province, local archeological museum said on Saturday.
It would be a great archeological breakthrough if it is confirmed to be the north wall of the Sangxingdui ruins, which is considered as the largest city in southern China during the Shang Dynasty (1,600 B.C. to 1,046 B.C.).
According to its location, and its positional relation with the east and west city walls, we infer that it may be the north city wall or at least part of it, said Ran Honglin, a staff member of the Sanxingdui Ruins Work Station of the Sichuan Provincial Cultural Relics and Archeology Research Institute.
Three tombs, one of which had a skeleton, were also unearthed under the suspected north wall. Archeologists said the tombs may belong to the Neolithic Age.
