Hitchhiking or walk to Gveleti waterfalls:
Simple stroll to the couple of a nice waterfalls and both ends of forked Gveleti valley.
Overview
About 7km north of Stepanstsminda village, at the both ends of the forked valley lies a couple of nice waterfalls known as Gveleti. To reach them, one doesn’t have to walk far, it’s actually a pretty easy stroll - so easy that I originally didn’t want to include it here. Still, if you have few extra hours to spend in Kazbegi, this place is definitely worth a visit.
Duration: 1-2 hour. Walk from the main road to both waterfalls and back takes 1/2 hours.
There is no public transport to take you from Stepanstsminda to the Gveleti valley. If you are on a very low budget, you can hitchhike - there is a lot´s of traffic on the main road and it shouldn´t take long until someone picks you up.
Description of the route:
Walk start at the mouth of Gveleti valley, near the main road. Follow the dirt road into the valley, you will pass an abandoned camp on the left side and several empty cabins. After some 900 meters, valley ahead splits into two branches - the main road turns into the left one, but we will keep this one for later.
Look for a stone with a big red arrow on it on the right side of the road - it shows the trail to the bigger waterfall. Use the small footbridge to cross the river and follow the small path heading deeper into the valley. Sometimes it´s a bit steep, but nothing an average pensioner wouldn´t handle. Watch out for raspberries!
After some 10 minutes, you will reach the bigger waterfall. It´s a pleasant place, good for a picnic. Best time to see it is in the late morning when the sun shines right into the gorge - especially if you plan to batch in a little lake below the waterfall. Jozef’s website/Georgia.
GEORGIA TRAVEL: TRIP FROM TBILISI TO INCREDIBLE KAZBEGI MOUNTAINS & GVELETI WATERFALL (PERFECT DAY)
✔ We Released the Georgia Travel Guide Ebook
We visited Georgia in June 2017. In this video we describe a part of our journey - a trip from Tbilisi to Kazbegi along the Georgian Military Road, how it is better to get to Kazbegi, where to stop along the way and what to do in the mountains. We went to Kazbegi with a guide by car, so we had a great opportunity to stop in the interesting and beautiful places of the Georgian Military Road. Mtskheta and Jvari, Zhinvali reservoir, Ananuri fortress, Gudauri, the Russia-Georgia Friendship Monument, Sno village - we turned the trip from Tbilisi to Kazbegi into an adventure. After that we spent 3 more days in the mountains of Kazbegi, walked up to the Trinity Church in Gergeti and even higher, visited the Dariali Gorge and Gveleti waterfall, and when the weather turned bad, we spent all the time in hotel, but it did not upset us at all, because the view of the mountains from the Rooms Hotel Kazbegi is fascinating in any weather!

Gveleti waterfall Georgia
В нашем небольшом авто туре по северо- восточной Грузии был заезд к водопаду Гвелети, очень красивая местность с шикарными видами на Кавказские горы. По традиции сняли пробы воды своими кожными покровами, температура была порядка 12 градусов :)
