Eric Fileta's Life on a Korean Farm
Eric Fileta, from Washington, D.C., was born to an Egyptian father and an American mother. He came to Korea on the advice of his college friends and fell in love with the country right away. Later, he went on a trip around the world to fulfill his childhood dream, and after about a year wandering alone, he met his current wife, Hye-won, at a guest house in Madrid, Spain.
The couple spent two years traveling the world together, but they found most of the world's cities to be quite similar, and too busy for their taste. Just as they were feeling dragged down, Eric discovered his second dream in Tanzania, Africa. He met Hye-won's parents, who were volunteering as farmers with KOICA in Tanzania. He was captivated by their way of life, and decided to become a farmer himself, in Korea.
Eric married Hye-won at a temple in Yongin, Korea. The couple wanted to hold a memorable wedding for their friends and families who came to congratulate them from all over the world. It was a complicated wedding, but everyone came out smiling.
Gangneung, surrounded by mountains and the ocean, was a unique city with friendly locals. Eric settled in and became a farmer. Eric enjoys the small joys in life, chatting with his neighbors and helping out on their farms. He also has his hands full raising a 10-month-old daughter.
It's been three years since Eric became a farmer, and farming hasn't gotten any easier for him. Last year, he harvested some potatoes in the summer and sweet potatoes in the fall, but he had to give up on the cabbage. He sent out an emergency signal to his farming mentor who lives in Chuknyeongsan Mountain. Eric and Hye-won take off on a trip together to take a break and to help another farmer's fall harvest while picking up some tips along the way. On their trip, they stop by Bodeok Gwaneumsa Temple in Yongin, where they were married, and the Songdam Gotaek, where they had their reception. They also visit Hye-won's parents, who taught them about traveling and farming. Then, they head to Chuknyeongsan Mountain to learn about organic farming from an old mentor. We follow Eric on his autumn family trip to learn more about his life as a Korean farmer.

Summer break family activities in Seoul
And now let's get a look at the arts and culture scene of Korea.
Our Yim Yoonhee joins us live in the studio today to give us the updates.
Good afternoon.
Summer break for Korean students has begun, and I hear you have performances today that are perfect to fill the time.
That's right.
I'm sure parents love having their kids home all day, but with the hot weather, it's hard to do things outside, so some of those kids might get a bit restless.
Today I have a few performances made just for the kids,... but the parents will benefit as well. Take a look.
Why? It's the most common question from children all over the world.
It's also the inspiration for a new play made especially FOR children.
Based on the question of why, 7-year-old Ho-young goes on an adventure, learning answers to his questions along the way.
The play is directed by Japanese producer Ken Nakajima, and entertains both children and their parents, as Ho-young goes against Baku,... a monster who eats all questions he comes across.
Children always ask, 'Why? Why? Why is it like that?' It's the source of that within each person that's important.
Another performance aimed at the children,...includes disabled children.
Jeong-ho needs a wheelchair, and his best friend Taemin loves soccer.
But the two of them remain best friends despite the obstacles.
The play Like Superman shows the struggles and growth of students who deal with physical handicaps.
And every Saturday, a professional sign language interpreter also joins the performance.
The educational cartoon series, Why has now been transformed into a musical.
The Sorcerer and the Expelled King is a fun and interactive performance that captures the attention of the younger audience.
It teaches children valuable lessons through show not tell,... but most of all it's an enjoyable time for the whole family.

Magical atmosphere at night, when the lights turn on! Day will be over very quickly. Get there before it opens! Cons: looks kinda meh in the daytime... absolute contrast at night.
Pros: fun rides! One roller coaster will absolutely make you sick! Water rides are also very thrilling. Workers are simply AMAZING, like they seem to love their jobs, even if they must repeat the same line over and over, BIG props to them with their consistency and enthusiasm. Food is good.

Awesome place to be with family and friends. There are some very good rides. The zoological park is also nice. You need at least two days to explore this place. Make sure you reach early and cover all the rides. There are long waiting queues for all the rides. We waited more than 2 hours for the Txpress ride.

T express highly recommended not for faint hearted - be prepared for one of the most thrilling rides of EVERLANDDDD!! Best if you can queue half an hour before the ride opens.

Extremely large amusement park coupled with a zoo. Unfortunately many of the rides were closed for winter. The open-concept zoo was an eye opening experience.
