Gyumri, Armenia
Gyumri (Armenian: Գյումրի, pronounced [ɡjumˈɾi]), is an urban municipal community and the second largest city in Armenia, serving as the administrative centre of Shirak Province in the northwestern part of the country. By the end of the 19th century, when the city was known as Alexandropol,[a] it was one of the largest cities of Russian-ruled Eastern Armenia with a population similar to that of Yerevan. It was renamed to Leninakan[b] during the Soviet period. The city's population grew above 200,000 prior to the 1988 Spitak earthquake, when it was devastated. As of the 2011 census, the city had a population of 121,976, down from 150,917 reported at the 2001 census.
Gyumri is the seat of the Diocese of Shirak of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Yerevan Railway Station (South Caucasus Railway terminal):
Yerevan railway station is the central station of Yerevan, the capital of Armenia.
In 1902 the first railway line was built to Yerevan, connecting it with Alexandropol (Gyumri) and Tiflis (Tbilisi). In 1908, a second line connected it with Julfa, Persia.
The station building was built in 1956. The Museum of railway transport of Armenia was opened in the station on 31 July 2009.
In 2010, Russian Railways rebuilt the station complex. During the renovations, they restored the interior of the station, introducing LCD screens with train schedule information for passengers. In addition, due to the significant increase in passenger traffic, as well as the need to ensure a comfortable environment when buying tickets, it was decided to divide the space into rooms for long-distance and international trains. The design of the rooms did not disturb the overall architectural style; decoration is made of natural and artificial materials identical to the original. In the station building there is a hotel with rooms for accommodation.Wikipedia

GYUMRI, ARMENIA -This morning started off early at the central train station, Yerevan Rail Station, en route to the second largest city in Armenia, Gyumri. Riding on a former Soviet Union train was an experience I’ll never forget. After three hours of slowly chugging our way through the Armenian highlands, I reached my destination. After walking around the city and taking in some of the beautiful architecture such as the Black Fortress, All Saviors Church and Vartanants Square, it was time to indulge in some vegan cuisine at one of the only vegan restaurants in Gyumri, Herbs & Honey.
If you enjoy beautiful scenery, architecture and love to indulge in traditional Armenian cuisine, I highly recommend you to visit the country of Armenia on your next adventure. Remember to add Gyumri to your itinerary. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore this beautiful country.
