Walking Tour of Halifax and Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia
This is kind of a tour/history lesson of our experience in Halifax and beautiful Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. It was the second stop on our cruise from Boston to Montreal and we only had part of one day to see what we could see. The lighthouse and town of Peggy's Cove is about a 45 minute drive by bus from Halifax so that chewed up part of the day. Halifax is a bustling tourist area that was made even more busy with our cruise ship in port. We didn't have time to see any museums but our goal was to walk around as much of the city as we could in the few hours we had available. The waterfront boardwalk is a must-see and, if you get the chance, stop at the immigration museum.

Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Economy, Best Time To Travel
Halifax is the capital city of Nova Scotia and the largest city in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada. Halifax is a busy Atlantic seaport and the economic and cultural hub of Eastern Canada. Halifax is a major economic centre in Atlantic Canada with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies.
LOCATION
The city of Halifax is on Halifax Peninsula, on the west side of the harbour, with Dartmouth to the east. The main landmark is the Halifax Citadel, on a high hill above the city, and it conveniently divides the city into three districts. The downtown core is sandwiched between the Citadel and the harbour, making navigation a snap.
HISTORY
modern Halifax was founded on June 21, 1749 as a British military outpost. In the 19th and early 20th century, Halifax was the entry point for European immigration to Canada. Halifax proved its worth during the Seven Years' War against the French and later in the American Revolutionary War. The first permanent European settlement in the region was on the Halifax Peninsula.
CLIMATE
Halifax has a maritime climate, tempered by its position near the North Atlantic. Summers are pleasant although occasionally humid, and winters are relatively mild, but wet, snowy and windy. January is the coldest month, being the only month with a high that is slightly below freezing at −0.1 °C, while August is the warmest. Snowfall is heavy in winter. August being the year's warmest and driest month on average.
BEST TIME
The best time to visit Halifax is May through October. Summer and fall experience pleasant weather and usher in numerous festivals. However, these months also attract lots of tourists, so be prepared for steep hotel rates. If you're looking to avoid the crowds and the high prices, visit between November and February.
ECONOMY
The urban area of Halifax is a major economic centre in eastern Canada with a large concentration of government services and private sector companies. Halifax serves as the business, banking, government and cultural centre for the Maritime region. Agriculture, fishing, mining, forestry and natural gas extraction are major resource industries found in the rural areas of the municipality. Halifax is one of Canada's top four container ports in terms of the volume of cargo handled.
TOURISM
Halifax's tourism industry showcases Nova Scotia's culture, scenery and coastline. There are several museums and art galleries in downtown Halifax. Halifax has numerous National Historic Sites, most notably Citadel Hill (Fort George). Just outside the urban area, the iconic Peggys Cove is internationally recognized and receives more than 600,000 visitors a year. The waterfront in Downtown Halifax is the site of the Halifax Harbourwalk, popular amongst tourists and locals

Halifax Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Halifax in Canada.
Halifax is part of Canada's federal state of Nova Scotia. The peninsula has a population of 333,000 and it is the country's oldest British settlement, yet has managed to retain all the charm and tranquility of a small town.
After Sydney, Halifax has the second largest harbor in the world and is one of the region's few harbors that is free from ice throughout the year.
Lobsters, oysters, mussels and fish soup are but a few of the menu items that appear in the seafood restaurants of the Atlantic District.
The Maritime Museum covers the history of the fishing industry on Canada's Atlantic coastline and also the history of navigation. Boats and small models illustrate the development of ship-building and include great seafarers and many remarkable exhibits.
In 1917, two ships collided in Halifax Harbor. This led to an explosion that destroyed half the city when 2,000 people perished and 9,000 were injured. In April 1912, the loss of the supposedly unsinkable passenger ship, the Titanic, was caused to its collision with an iceberg and it was from Halifax that the rescue ships embarked.
The famous train, The Ocean, embarks from close to the harbor and its impressive stainless steel carriages date back to the 1950s.
Halifax is an historic city set in a country with a vast and amazing landscape, a flamboyant metropolis that unites the past with the present day.

We're in Halifax! - RVing Across Canada - RV Travel Vlog 2019
We're in Halifax! City time, as we continue RVing across Canada. We wanted to visit the Halifax Citadel. After city life, we're back to RVing Nova Scotia. Enjoy the Canada RV Travel Vlog!
Last vlog we ended in that beautiful ocean Boondocking campsite, and from there we headed for Halifax. We had some footage of us at Halifax Walmart before getting to downtown, but there was a heat wave going on so really all we did was complain about how hot it got inside the RV and that we didn't want to leave it for too long with Cat in it. There was an official heatwave weather advisory even!
So the next day we picked up with perfect weather, and we had scoped out the ferry parking beforehand driving around Dartmouth so we were ready. The ferry parking is free if your using public transit, and I parked using 2 parking stalls and asked the lady and she said no problem! So there is a pro tip other RVers, don't be afraid to use 2 of you need to. Better off having a safe pull out spot rather than leaving just enough space for 2 people to fit rather than one comfortably.
Taking the ferry to get to downtown Halifax was the best decision we made. It costs only $2.50 for access to public transit for a couple of hours so we got a fun ferry ride to Halifax downtown harbor area, and could have had bus access with our pass too she said! From the Halifax Ferry Terminal it was only a small walk (but up a big hill!) To the Halifax Citadel. Being a national historic site we knew we wanted to explore Halifax Citadel well so we made sure to take our time. We were fortunate enough to get there just a little before the firing of the noon gun we learned as well! Lucky us! Everyday they fire a cannon at noon to single it, like they used to at the citadel hundreds of years before. We also got to join a guided tour for free which was awesome to actually learn the history from someone, in full costume. Everyone at the old fortress was in complete uniform to add to the experience. Definitely a recommend, and the fee was included in our parks pass! Money saving tip so don't forget to bring it off your dash if you have one!
After a great afternoon at the Citadel it was time to explore the downtown Halifax core, we walked Argyle street and a few other main ones on our way back to the harbor. The harbor has a boardwalk that you can take back to the ferry which was a lovely walk. We got back to the ferry terminal just in time too before our 1:30 return ticket would expire and we would have to spend another whopping 2.50 each, close call! Haha.
We got back in the RV, cooked some food and ran the AC for kitty. It wasn't very hot in the end even anyway as the heat wave had passed and the ferry being on the Atlantic had a great cool ocean breeze for all the windows open and the roof fans going. We said our good byes to Halifax and Dartmouth, and got back on the road.
We got to a picture perfect lighthouse Boondocking site which was an awesome RV camping spot. We feel so lucky to have such beautiful free Boondocking spots as Canadian Vloggers / Canadian RV vlog makers that are usually empty or almost empty!
Hope you guys enjoyed seeing some of Canada's historical side and also the beautiful views at the end. Stay tuned because next video we begin our way to eastern Nova Scotia, and the world famous Cape Breton High Lands National Park + Cabot Trail. Probably the best spot in the trip so far guys but you be the judge Wednesday!
Be sure to leave a like if you enjoyed it, subscribe if new, and we'll see you Wednesday friends!
