SONS OF THE BLUES play Willie Dixon's I'M READY
Biography
Sons of the Blues is the creation of central Victorian musicians John Phillips (lead guitar) and Patrick Byrne (guitar, vocals) and is a unique blend of Chicago and Mississippi Blues, storytelling and edgy original compositions thrown in for good measure.
John’s had quite a musical journey. He has fronted bands like Urban Principle and Pipelines, been in bands that supported iconic Australian acts from Men at Work, INXS, The Divinyls, Paul Kelly and Midnight Oil to AC/DC, Radio Birdman, Mental as Anything and The Birthday Party, released material and honed his musicianship in a trail of bands including early Goanna, Kikx and comical six-piece combo Za Za Biskit. In the Sons he has returned to his love of the Blues and improvisational guitar johnphillips.com.au
Patrick has spent the last 30 years as a solo artist with a passion for intense and stylised vocal interpretations of the Blues genre and a fascination with musical evolution. As an emerging songwriter in Castlemaine and Bendigo Central Victoria, his original songs have a depth in simplicity and are craftily arranged.
Sons of the Blues as a musical collaboration produces a unique sound experience encapsulating the raw and rootsy heart of Southern American Blues onwards with songs and influences from legends like T-Bone Walker, Willie Dixon, Freddie King, BB King, Hendrix, Elmore James, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.
In recent times the Sons have performed again at the Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival 2017, the Comma and Bridge Hotels in Castlemaine, Bendigo MusicMan, The Vine, The Basement Bar and the Newmarket Hotel and done live to air performances on radio WMAfm “Hot to Trot” and 3NRGfm “Blues on The Hill”.
Sons are flexible and can expand upwards from a duet format and have experience in successful collaborations with other musicians and bands.
“.......An appearance of The Sons at your next event will cure symptoms of the blues with a highly efficacious treatment tested on volunteers who have supplied enthusiastic endorsements for our rattling, rolling, stomping medicine show!......”

Australian TV Commercials 51 (BCV-8, May 13, 1990)
Commercials from Southern Cross Bendigo, recorded mostly on May 13, 1990.
Background: I'd captured these lot of commercials about a year ago, but have slacked off posting them until now.
Anyways, they come from two different recordings on the same tape. The first portion being from The Man From Snowy River 2 (though the people who taped it cut out all bar one of the ad breaks), while the second is Raiders of The Lost Ark (which had been mostly taped over, except for again, the final ad break).
NOTE: The date in the video's title reflects only the first portion of the video. I have no idea when the second portion was taped, but I presume it's from around the same time.
Commercials (* = Repeat):
Block #1 (May 13):
-Tatts Instant Scratch-Its
-Sussan
-Ford Laser
-Nutri-Metics
-Bendigo Umpires
Block #2:
-The Man From Snowy River 2 Closing Credits (with continuity for Till We Meet Again, and the San Marino Grand Prix)
-Burrowes Film Group Logo
-Commonwealth Bank Sponsor Board
-Till We Meet Again Promo
-Southern Cross CSA: Alcohol & Drug Foundation Australia
-Crime Stoppers
-Southern Cross Network Highlight Bumper
-Start of Some Sort of Informative Short
Block #3 (Date Unknown):
-Nissan Pulsar Vector (the recording began just before the ad break began, hence why the video looks a bit shaky at first)
-The Lakes
-Baltic Pine (SALE:SALE:SALE)
-Real Estate Guide
-Nyah Harness Racing (this has a pretty good jingle for a local ad)
Block #4:
-Raiders of The Lost Ark Closing Credits (with continuity for Spencer For Hire, and Salome)

Solo Bikepacking the Goldfields Track
After a train to Ballarat and a quick coffee, I set off on the Goldfields Track. About 200km of mainly rough dirt tracks through to Bendigo via Creswick, Daylesford, Castlemaine, Harcourt and into Bendigo.
Night 1: camped at Mt Franklin Reserve, about 20km past Dayelsford and slightly off the track.
Night 2: camped at Oak Forrest Harcourt. its the base of the MTB park.
Both sites had a drop toilet and no running water. Both were free.
On the second night, the forecast for my final day into Castlemaine was for rain. so, i packed everything i could to leave minimal for the next morning. I also decided that i wouldn't risk getting the GoPro wet without the swim suit on it so i packed it away too. so no footage of Day 3. The track was pretty easy, pretty flat and pretty fast, it was only 35 km from there and follows the aqueduct most of the way. apart from some short steep hike-a-bikes, its a good easy ride.
My bike is a 2018 Giant Toughroad GX 0, with Salsa Woodchipper Carbon bars and bigger rubber on the wheels. This handled the track and all conditions perfectly. Ideally, this track would be completed on a MTB or something with 700x40 or bigger tires.
