So We spent the entire afternoon at ''Hanging Rock'' national reserve. As mentioned in the Video it is part of the Macedon Shire -in my opinion one of the most beautiful locations in Melbourne.
This reserve has a Massive green area, where lots of families can play with their little ones. Free BBQs s vo you can cook your own barbie! Clean toilet facilities, there is also a cafe on site, a playground for the kiddos and their discovery centre which is free to enter.
The $10 admission fee per car is well worth it!
The highlight of this park has to be the Amazing Rock Formations! the hike to the top takes about 30mins, but I suggest you take it at a slower pace and really take in your surroundings!
The Aerial shots gives you a Completely new perspective of this place and it it mesmerising to watch!
There were many families with kids even up at the summit, but if you're doing this with a toddler, please make sure to hold them tight. If your kid has no notion of safety strap them into your carrier or hold their hand tight if you have to, don't worry abut being 'the bad guy' ...better safe then sorry ;)

Served with helpings of drama and intrigue, and stunning wildflowers and animal life, your Picnic at Hanging Rock will be a gourmet affair if you gather your fare from the farm gates, provedores and wineries and in surrounding towns.
An intriguing history
The legend of Peter Weir’s 1975 film of Joan Lindsay’s novel Picnic at Hanging Rock is probably part of your attraction to this landmark, though it's attracted picnickers since the early days of European settlement. Gold rush bushrangers like 'Mad Dog' hid out amidst the bizarrely perched boulders. You too can clamber over these rocks, re-enacting your favourite part of its history.
Celebrations
Tell your own stories at the picnic races, held twice a year on New Year's Day and Australia Day and drawing punters from afar. Local food and wine is justifiably celebrated at the annual Harvest Picnic in late February.
Check out classic cars at the annual Car Display picnic day, or race around the rock for Run The Rock every April. Catch huge international acts playing music against the Hanging Rock backdrop throughout the year. For the ultimate Hanging Rock experience, camp overnight and scare yourself silly with tall tales at Camp Out At The Rock.
The Rock: The facts
Rising 105 metres from the plain and formed six million years ago, Hanging Rock is actually a small steep-sided volcano (mamelon). Rainwater has gradually created unusual rock formations, including the Black Hole of Calcutta and the Cathedral.
Stop in at the Hanging Rock interpretative centre for the lowdown on local history, mystery and geology. Join a guided tour for more tales, and spook yourself with a summer night tour.
Bursting with colour
You can almost forget the Rock's supposed supernatural forces during spring, when the area bursts with colour. The reserve is host to nearly 100 indigenous plants, and resident fauna includes 40 species of birds and koalas, kangaroos, sugar gliders, echidna and wallabies.

We dropped in to check out Hanging Rock on the way for a weekend trip to Daylesford from Melbourne. Read more about our day here:
We walked up to the summit and along the way stopped to have a picnic lunch. ( Peanut butter sandwich and juice) The views along the way are breath taking.
Hanging Rock is in the middle of the Hanging Rock Recreation Reserve, near Woodend in Victoria. The reserve includes a horse racing track, picnic grounds, creek, discovery centre and cafe.

Hanging Rock, approximately one hour drive from Melbourne, it is associated with Joan Lindsay's book Picnic at Hanging Rock Set in 1900, it is about a group of female students at an Australian girls' boarding school who go missing. So you know when people call out Miranda, Miranda where are you, it is associated with the much loved book. Hanging Rock is a beautiful place to enjoy a day rambling through the rocks and Morgans Lookout offers you beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Hanging Rock is the centrepiece for the Hanging Rock Recreation Reserve, a public reserve managed by the Macedon Ranges Shire Council. The reserve includes a horse racing track, picnic grounds, creek, interpretation centre and cafe. The reserve is a habitat for endemic flora and fauna, including koalas, wallabies, possums, phascogales, wedge-tailed eagles and kookaburras.

On today’s video we are heading to the Mt Macedon hotel, a traditional Australian country pub. The restaurant has superbly pressed metal ceilings, open fireplaces and rich wood panelling giving the pub an olde English feel.
Set against the back drop of Mt Macedon, this bustling pub with rooms in a redbrick building is 3.7kms from the Camel’s hump rock formation and 10km from both the Woodend golf club and the hiking trails of hanging rock reserve.
