Flight #7 - Hanningfield Reservoir, Billericay Essex.
A little fly across Hanningfield Reservoir in Essex, UK. Most of the water for the south east of Britain comes from this reservoir.
For a grey day in January the footpaths were surprisingly busy.

Essex Reservoir (1954)
West Hangingfield, Essex.
L/S of country road that has been blocked off; C/U of sign reading 'Diversion'. Several shots of exterior and interior of a deserted house that will soon be cleared to make way for a new reservoir.
Men work to demolish houses and cut down trees. The Frood family carry belongings out of their house and load them onto a truck; they are the last family in the reservoir site to leave their home.
General views panning across the valley. Tractors and bulldozers smooth the ground. Men dig in a trench beside a huge pipe. Another trench contains wooden scaffolding to keep it up. Men far below are seen digging away. Men tread the clay base of the dam into position with their wellied feet.
Machinery clears earth and shingle from the site. More machines mix cement. General view of the work site as the land is prepared for the reservoir. Large tractors travel through corn fields, yielding their last harvest before the reservoir takes the land. A farmer (Alec Frood?) picks some corn ears and crushes them in his hands. Deserted buildings and stables on Alec's land. He brings cows out of a cow pen. Geese waddle along.
Deserted building - looks like an old mansion. C/U of sign reading 'Private Grounds - Trespassers Will Be Prosecuted'.
Notes and cutting on file.

Billericay is a town and civil parish in the Borough of Basildon, Essex, England. Billericay lies within the London Basin and constitutes a commuter town 28 miles east of central London. The town has three secondary schools and a variety of open spaces.
Billericay is within the London Basin and lies on a mixture of London clay, Claygate Beds and Bagshot Beds. Near the High Street, there is a change in soil type from sandy to clay, which gives rise to local underground springs. Open spaces include Norsey Wood, Mill Meadows Nature Reserve, Queen's Park Country Park, Sun Corner, Lake Meadows, Hanningfield Reservoir and South Green. Billericay contains Billericay School, Mayflower High School and St John's School.
Mill Meadows is a 90 local Nature Reserve near the centre of Billericay one of the finest ancient meadow systems in Essex. Centuries of grazing have created the ideal conditions for a wonderful diversity of wild flowers, fungi, insects and invertebrates, many of which are very rare.
Billericay is a part of the London commuter belt. It is served by Billericay railway station on the Abellio Greater Anglia route from Liverpool Street station, in the City of London, to Southend. The station connects to local bus routes. Billericay is close to two primary routes: the A12 to the north and the A127 in the south. The A176 provides a road link to Basildon to the south of Billericay, as well as to the A127. The only secondary road in the town, the B1007, passes from just south of the town centre as Laindon Road, meets the A129 at Sun Corner and then continues northwards as Billericay's High Street and then Stock Road. It continues north to the county town of Chelmsford. Along its route is the village of Stock and an interchange to the A12. The town is a destination on the A129, linking it to the neighbouring towns of Brentwood and Wickford.
Billericay is served by a community radio station, Phoenix FM, which is based in Brentwood. The town was immortalised in the Ian Dury and the Blockheads song Billericay Dickie. Billericay is mentioned in George Orwell's novel Down and Out in Paris and London. Billericay is the setting of the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey as the home of Gavin Shipman (Mathew Horne) and his parents; however, the actual filming took place in Wales. The Cater Museum is a privately owned local history museum housed in an 18th & 19th century building in the High Street.

Places to see in ( Wickford - UK )
Wickford is a town in the south of the English county of Essex, with a population of more than 33,000. Located approximately 30 miles (50 km) east of London, it falls within the Borough of Basildon along with the original town of Basildon, Billericay, Laindon and Pitsea. However, parts of Wickford fall under neighbouring districts such as Chelmsford and Rochford.
Wickford has become a commuter town, serving the City of London through its direct connection to Liverpool Street station through the Southend Victoria line, on which a train to London takes approximately 40 minutes. The town can also be easily reached via the road network by the A127 between London and Southend-on-Sea or by the A130 from Chelmsford.
Wickford is a fairly small town with a main high street including a range of shops. A swimming pool, a library, an open-air market and a community centre are also within the vicinity of the town centre.
Including this, Wickford also incorporates a small estate called Shotgate, home to many residents. Shotgate features a row of village shops and a children's play area and park.
Wickford has a history going back over two thousand years. There is evidence that the area itself was inhabited in prehistoric times probably by a tribe of Britons called Trinovantes. There was a Roman military marching camp on the Beauchamps Farm site, which was succeeded by a Roman villa. This is now the site of Beauchamps High School. This area on higher ground was the historic core of Wickford, the site of the manor house and the parish church of St Catherine's. Over time the commercial centre of Wickford has migrated westwards, towards the modern High Street on the other side of the River Crouch.
For the most part, Wickford is flat and 10 metres (33 ft) above sea level. The highest point, on the outskirts of the town, is 74 metres (243 ft) above sea level. The River Crouch flows through the town, from the west to the east. The River Wick flows into the River Crouch from the south.
The Wick Country Park comprises 50 acres (20 ha) of former agricultural land, with over 2 km of easy access trails around the site. The trails leads visitors past old hedgerows, the 5-acre (2.0 ha) lake, ponds, World War II pillboxes and recent woodland plantings, with bridges and boardwalks that allow the trails to continue over the North Benfleet brook.
