Hanuman Temple Tuesday, New Delhi, India
Sometimes the fact that I underestimate how far everything is in Delhi, that I determine to walk places (sometimes simply to avoid the bargaining with the auto wallas /rickshaw drivers - and because I think where I'm going is so close), that I listen to people's vague descriptions about where places are, or perhaps don't listen well enough, and then find myself in not exactly the right place and having a long way to walk, that I don't use my maps enough and so sometimes go longer routes, relying on directions given by strangers (which I sometimes wrongly ignore and sometimes wrongly listen to) is exactly how I will discover more of Delhi...BY FOOT!
While some people have read about this in the guidebook, I (who haven't read much in my guidebook) just came across this today at a Hanuman temple. I guess this happens every Tuesday!
A few things touched me today (in more of that heartbreaking stuff I'd expected to see in India way) : This scene at the temple, but even more so...as I was making my way through the New Delhi railway station this evening, seeing a man without legs, cross the long raised corridor between the platforms stairs, using just his hands touching the dirty ground upon which millions are walking to move himself across (sad!)...but here at Hanuman which observes a holy day on Tuesdays, the poor, the elderly and the disabled, come to receive the charity of the temple-goers (who give food and money as part of their offering/religious worship)...
There were so many people without limbs, blind, disabled etc. You'll see the calm'ish way the blind are accepting the 10 Rupee (20 US cents) notes from the man (on the phone part of the time), but when a man starts giving out food packages, the crowd gets a bit wild...that Indian stampede that kills people...the one i see threatening itself on the subways and the buses as people struggle and literally PUSH to survive and meet their own needs amongst the throngs...starts to play out, people start climbing over others, pushing, the man gives up near the end, leaves the last parcels with them...it's a tug of war...food ends up on the floor...a woman picks up what she can!

Evening 'aarti' at Hanuman Temple - Karol bagh, Delhi
Indian priests performing evening 'aarti' at Hanuman temple in Karol Bagh, Delhi, India. Deotees throng the temple for evening aarti.
Hanuman temple in karol Bagh is one of the most popular Hindu temples in Delhi. The shrine is marked by the colossal 108ft statue of Lord Hanuman and can be seen from the both Jhandewalan and Karol Bagh metro station. Tuesdays are quite crowded here, despite the fact that the temple stays open every day. Other than the massive effigy of Lord Hanuman, which fairly does its job of attracting devotees and tourists, the entrance of the temple is also an attraction. The entrance door has been carved in a shape of the mouth of the deity and one can reach the main hall of the shrine through a passageway.
During the evening Aarti; the arms of Hanuman’s giant statuemove back, the chest slides open and the beautiful images of Lord Shri Rama & Devi Sita protrudes to give darshan (sight) to all the devotees. Certainly a dazzling sight!
Karol Bagh, also spelled as Qarol Bagh, is a mixed residential-cum-commercial neighbourhood in Delhi, India, known for its shopping streets, like the Ghaffar Market and Ajmal Khan Road. It is one of the three administrative subdivisions, of the Central Delhi district, of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, with the other two being, Darya Ganj and Paharganj.
It was also home to the Karol Bagh Lok Sabha constituency till it was abolished in 2008, now it is a Legislative Assembly of Delhi segment of the New Delhi constituency.
Delhi, officially the National Capital Territory (NCT) that includes the Indian capital New Delhi, is the second most populous metropolis in India after Mumbai. With a population of 16.3 million in 2011, the city is also the eighth most populous metropolis in the world. The NCT and its urban region have been given the special status of National Capital Region (NCR) under the Constitution of India's 69th amendment act of 1991. The greater NCR urban, which includes the neighbouring cities Baghpat, Gurgaon, Sonepat, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida and other nearby towns, has nearly 22.2 million residents.

Offerings made at the Giant Hanuman temple in Delhi, India
Giant mouth entrance to Hanuman temple.
Giant statue of lord Hanuman is located between Jhandewalan and Karol Bagh metro station.
Apart from his endless devout towards Lord Ram the god of enormous strength Lord Hanuman is also known for his unmatched mascularity and intelligence. Hanuman temples are spread all around India with devotees flooding into it for paying homage to their monkey-god. One such Hanuman temple is situated in the heart of Indian capital city, New Delhi. Karol Bagh's 108 feet Hanuman temple is a unique mix of artistic sculptures and sanctity.
Located in-between a busy portion of the city, the temple relieves its visitors from day-to-day tensions, healing them towards a relaxed mind. The temple houses a gigantic, 108 feet high idol of lord Hanuman also visible from the nearby metro rail lines.
The temple was built in 1994 by a departed priest Nagababa Sevagir Ji Maharaj with several changes made later on to reach its present form.

Ram Dass visits Hanuman's New Temple in Taos
In 1977, spiritual teacher Ram Dass, along with the Neem Karoli Baba U.S. satsang, brought over a murti of Hanuman from India to America. Due to suffering a stroke in 1997, Ram Dass had had been unable to visit the Taos Hanuman Temple in New Mexico for many years. Along with a team of devoted caretakers and health professionals, Ram Dass returned to Taos in July 2019, for the consecration of the Sri Neem Karoli Baba Hanuman Mandir. The following footage was taken on the first day of the festival, during the chanting of 108 Hanuman chalisas.
