MSC Meraviglia Europe Cruise: Genoa
We're in #Genoa today on our wonderful MSC Meraviglia Mediterranean Cruise. We've made absolutely no plans. How’s that going to work out?

We are up bright and early as we cruise into Genoa, but we don't have an excursion booked. We are going to hang out on the ship, have a nice leisurely breakfast in the #YachtClub, and enjoy the view. Later in the morning I'll head down to the MSC Aurea Spa and give you a quick look around. After the spa visit, we head off the ship and explore the port a little. Before long we run into a friendly young lady that helps us decide what we want to do. A hop on hop off (HOHO) bus tour seems to be our best choice for the day, and we board the bus, cameras ever ready. It's a great tour around the city, and fits nicely with our collective energy levels. Back on the ship we've got more mom and son fun in store. We hit the waterpark, and get crazy on the slides. It's our last full day on the ship, and our last chance to experience the Himalayan Rope Course. Jr. Editor was the only one wearing proper shoes, so we let him hit the ropes without us. Of course, we took lots of photos and videos. It was super fun for him, and he had a great time testing his skills. We round out the night with the Cirque du Soleil dinner show. Spoiler, it was fantastic. Filming the performing is not allowed, so sadly we are not able to share any footage with you.
Thank you for coming along on this fantastic journey aboard the MSC #Meraviglia. If you missed any of the previous vlogs be sure to check those videos out here:
DISCLOSURE: We were guests of MSC on this sailing, however our opinions are our own, and we were not paid or compensated in any other way by MSC during this voyage.

My Southern Europe cruise vacation - Day 8 - Genoa, Italy - Finale
And this would be the last night we spend on board MSC Grandiosa. Here on this lovely morning, we have docked at Genoa, Italy. Beautiful place, beautiful city. Had a short excursion time as well, but this time we walked all around instead of taking the tour available.
So we roamed around, had coffee, visited one of the largest aquarium in Europe:
Aquarium of Genoa
Acquario di Genova
Ponte Spinola, 16128 Genova GE, Italy
Spent a good hour here (we have aquaria KLCC anyway)
Went back on board the cruise ship, packed our stuff which would take us quite a while, had dinner, continued packing. Next morning, we would be at Civitavecchia, Rome and the moment we disembark the ship for good, we head straight to the airport and back to Malaysia.
So there you have it ladies and gentlemen, my full southern european cruise on board the MSC Grandiosa with my family. Wonderful time spent, food was hit and miss and some places, but mostly reasonable with some of superb excellence. My biggest achievement ever was not the cruise nor the places, but the time spent with my family, my parents, my sister and my brother in law, my nephew, my mother in law. These memories will forever cherish and no amount of money will ever buy memories.
In case u missed it,
Day 1 -
Day 2 -
Day 3 -
Day 4 -
Day 5 -
Day 6 -
This videos is Day 7
Day 8 nothing to see as i docked, disembarked in Rome, with all the luggages i had to carry, impossible to hold the camera, gimbal or chest strap my gopro on. It was dock and straight to the airport for me.
Day 9 at Bangkok for transit and Day 10 back in Kuala Lumpur airport.
The ship we boarded was none other than the new MSC Grandiosa, huge cruise ship with plenty of facilities and quite a fair bit of pay to play, pay to use facilities. Casino was filled with cigarette smoke.
Some of the excursions were on our own, some were pre-arranged ground tour by ourselves and of course some is pre-booked by MSC themselves.
France was an exception, we took excursion by MSC, we left and roamed by ourselves.
Overall, Barcelona was my most enjoyable excursion and i can say, the best place to be among all. Yes i had a fair bit more time in Barcelona than in Italy, France or Malta and yes it was my birthday BUT Barcelona despite being a pickpocket and scamming haven, was beautiful and lively and it was so vibrant, it makes me want to return. This is also partly thanks, and i cannot say it enough, to my local guide Miss Lidia.
And again For those who wish to engage Miss Lidia's services,

You can see and read more about it on my Day 6 adventure. I got to have paella, i got to have tapas, i got to the market to buy my craved pata negra and iberico ham. My brother in law got the olives but i ain't into olives.
So yes, it definitely is a thumbs up for me in Barcelona.
Summary:
I had a fantastic time with my family touring southern europe together. It is gonna be one heck of a memory, and like i said previously, memories cannot be bought. I thank my parents for being patient and co-operative, i thank my daughters for not giving me a hard time, i thank my sister and my brother in law and my nephew who came from Sweden to join us, i also thank my mother in law for flying in from Singapore to join in as well.
It wasn't an easy trip arrangement for 10 people who are from different places but we did it. We finally have a family holiday to Europe. My wife is the person i'd appreciate the most for she has to put up with the kids, my parents, her mom and of course......me.
Should you guys need any information, i'd be more than happy to help out provided i know about it.
I'd like to end the note with a thanks to all my viewers who took the time to watch and read. This cruise ship is amazingly huge, but if you had a choice between Princess or Royal Caribbean and this MSC, my advice is definitely do opt for Princess. It is not all that bad on MSC. Most employees are friendly, with an exceptional few of course. The experience was decent enough for me not to give it 3 stars but 4 stars out of 5.
Do subscribe and like my videos. It will motivate me further to make more travel videos. Editing is such a pain in the *ss especially for a beginner like me.
I have already confirmed my next family trip.....a much bigger participation consisting of most of my family members with the same surname back to China at the end of 2020. Till then, there might be some spontaneous trip and events. See you then !

Muslim refugees in Italy - Via Genoa
Italy is on the front line of migration, and the street scene is changing with every new flow of refugees coming to Italy, searching for a new life. How do the Italians cope with the flow of refugees? And specifically with Muslim refugees? How is it to be a Muslim refugee in Italy? How do the refugees cope with the Italians?
In this second episode of the VPRO travel series Via Genua, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer speaks to Rosella, a transgender prostitute who is confronted with a mosque next to her house.
Ilja is looking for Kumuna, the minor asylum seeker from Gambia whom he met in the first episode. Kumuna is now going to school. One of the first words he learns there is: Casa. Italian for 'home'. What is Home in Via di Prè? How do you master such a street as Via di Pré and how do you deal with it, if, what you consider your home changes with the arrival of migrants?
It is the day of the Festival of Sacrifice (Aïd el-Kebir). In the Via di Prè the men have put on their most beautiful religious clothing in all colors of the world. The women are at home and prepare the lamb. On the street, Ilja speaks to various Muslims. They tell him that unfortunately they are not allowed to slaughter lamb at home because of the Italian legislation and so they buy it at the Islamic butcher shops in Via di Prè.
Ilja is invited by a Senegalese family living in Via di Prè. The son of the house tells how he hears Italians on the street complaining about the crisis. Senegalese do that differently, he claims. No one has to complain here. We always help each other. That is a bit of a different way of living than people outside the Senegalese community are used to.'

Italy: Genoa marks one year since Morandi Bridge collapse

Hundreds gathered near the former site of Morandi Bridge in Genoa on Wednesday to mark the first year since the bridge's collapse that killed 43 people.
Relatives of the victims along with Genoa citizens released white balloons and threw roses into a river minutes before the city churches' bells tolled at 11:36 local time (9:36 GMT), the exact moment of the bridge's collapse in 2018.
Attendees later watched a broadcast of a mass ceremony being led by Genoa Archbishop Angelo Bagnasco.
It is something sad. Dark. It is a memory that lasts a lifetime. I saw how children I knew disappeared, people killed in that way, it is indescribable, said a Genoa citizen.
The ceremony came amid Genoa citizens combatting the aftermath of the bridge's collapse and the problems of the ongoing construction of its replacement.
There are people who open their windows into the construction site of the bridge. They have not been compensated. They have only received promises, said a Genoa citizen with others reflecting the sentiment.
Heavy rainfall caused the bridge to crumble in August 2018. A new bridge designed by world-famous architect Renzo Piano will stand in its place.

Happy New Year from Milan
The day after Christmas we took a family vacation to Milan & Genoa & rang in the New Year. While there we went to the Duomo, saw the Last Supper, ate lots of pizza, pasta & prosciutto.
We flew non-stop from Miami (MIA) Milan in Milan (MXP) on American Airlines, it took 9.5 hours.
We hired a driver from MXP to Milan and stayed at the Montenapoleone Suites. Montenapoleone Suites is a safe ten minute from the Duomo.
We did an overnight visit to Genoa. To get there we took the subway from the Duomo (yellow line) to San Donato. There we took a 2 hour bus ride on the Flix Bus. We stayed at the Hotel Continental which was a ten minute walk from the bust stop in Genoa. The hotel was great, you can walk to everything. We stayed in Genoa for about 24 hours so we can ring in the New Year in Milan.
Overall it was a great family experience, we felt safe and would recommend this trip.
