Harajuku Tour of Takeshita Street + Kawaii Monster Cafe in Tokyo, Japan
In this video, we take you on a Harajuku Tour of Takeshita Street and also go inside the infamous Kawaii Monster Cafe!
Harajuku (原宿) is one of the best-known neighbours in all of Tokyo and it is synonymous with shopping, youth culture and fashion. We walked the full length of Takeshita Street, the beating heart of Harajuku, to give you a taste of what this place has to offer along Takeshita Street.
Along the way, we visited outdoor vending stalls, cute boutiques, candy stores and cosplay shops where you can find costumes and wigs in every colour of the rainbow.
Takeshita (竹下通り) can get very crowded - we discovered that the first time we visited on a weekend - so for this video, we came back on a weekday morning when there were fewer people. It was a far better experience as this time around we could actually browse the shops and explore Harajuku a bit more leisurely.
One place that we didn't want to miss on our Harajuku tour was the Kawaii Monster Cafe, which is quite unusual as far as themed cafes and concept cafes go. This place feels a bit like a nightclub set in a children's fantasy land. It is loud, colourful, and dizzying - basically one of those experiences that you can only have in Japan!
We found the Kawaii Monster Cafe fascinating at first because we had never seen anything quite like it, but the charm wore off soon enough. The food was mediocre and eating there was expensive. We had to pay an admission fee of 500 yen per person to enter the cafe, and on top of that, each person had to order one meal and one beverage. It came to around $40 USD, and well, we'll let you judge the food at Kawaii Monster Cafe base on our footage.
After eating at the cafe, we returned to Takeshita Street (竹下通り) to continue our tour of Harajuku (原宿). We browsed through a few more shops, picked up some souvenirs, and sampled some candy along the way - have we mentioned that there are a lot of candy stores on this street?!
And that pretty much sums up our visit to Harajuku. Hopefully, this video gave you an idea of what Takeshita Street and the surrounding area have to offer.

Japan Trip 2014 Tokyo Walking Harajuku KAWAII fashion Takeshita-street
CUTE CUBE HARAJUKU opning of a new shopping mall.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takeshita Street (竹下通り Takeshita-dōri) is a pedestrian-only street lined with fashion boutiques, cafes and restaurants in Harajuku in Tokyo, Japan. Stores on Takeshita Street include major chains such as The Body Shop, McDonald's and 7-Eleven, but most of the businesses are small independent shops that carry an array of styles. The shops on this street are often a bellwether for broader fads, and some are known as antenna shops, which manufacturers seed with prototypes for test-marketing.
Takeshita Street was a reliable place to go and purchase fake Japanese and American street brand goods from the early 1990s to 2004. Since 2004, a stronger metropolitan government stance on counterfeit merchandise has led to a decrease of such items being available to the public.
Located directly across from the exit of JR East's Harajuku Station, Takeshita Street is very popular with young teenagers, particularly those visiting Tokyo on school trips, or local young people shopping for small cute goods at weekends.
Lolita fashion
Lolita fashion (ロリータ・ファッション Rorīta fasshon) is a fashion subculture originating in Japan that is based on Victorian-era clothing as well as costumes from the Rococo period, but the style has expanded greatly beyond Japan. Companies such as Milk and Pretty (currently known as Angelic Pretty) sell various Lolita fashions. The Lolita look began primarily as one of modesty with a focus on quality in both material and manufacture of garments. The original silhouette is of a knee length skirt or dress with a cupcake shape assisted by petticoats, but has expanded into various types of garments including corsets and floor length skirts. Blouses, knee high socks or stockings and headdresses are also worn.Lolita fashion has evolved into several different sub styles and has a subculture that is present in many parts of the world.
Although many people point to Japan for the Lolita trend especially with the influence of Anime media, which made it more popular, as the creator of the Lolita Fashion, the origin of its meaning is complex, and remains unclear. It is likely the movement started in the late 1970s when famous labels including Pink House, Milk and Pretty (later known as Angelic Pretty) began selling clothes that would be considered Lolita by today's standards. Shortly after that came Baby, The Stars Shine Bright, and Metamorphose temps de fille.
In the 1990s, Lolita fashion became better recognized, with bands like Princess Princess coming into popularity at the time. These bands wore intricate costumes, which fans began adopting as their own style.
The style soon spread and ultimately reached Tokyo where it became popularized throughout Japanese youth culture. Today, Lolita fashion has gained global popularity and can be found even in department stores in Japan.

Harajuku
Harajuku (原宿 meadow lodging) About this sound listen (help·info) is the common name for the area around Harajuku Station on the Yamanote Line in the Shibuya ward of Tokyo, Japan.
Every Sunday, young people dressed in a variety of styles including gothic lolita, visual kei, and decora, as well as cosplayers spend the day in Harajuku socializing. The fashion styles of these youths rarely conform to one particular style and are usually a mesh of many. Most young people gather on Jingu Bridge, which is a pedestrian bridge that connects Harajuku to the neighboring Meiji Shrine area.
Harajuku is also a fashion capital of the world, renowned for its unique street fashion.Harajuku street style is promoted in Japanese and international publications such as Kera, Tune, Gothic & Lolita Bible and Fruits. Many prominent designers and fashion ideas have sprung from Harajuku and incorporated themselves into other fashions throughout the world.
Harajuku is also a large shopping district that includes international brands, its own brands, and shops selling clothes young people can afford.

If any of you watch Durarara or K project you know what I mean. Hahaha. Good news ... I was able to visit Ikebukuro! Stay tuned for that soon. ^_^
P.S - The little boy who couldn't stop pulling my hand was my mother's friend's son's .... child/son. Hope that made sense! haha.

KAWAII Japanese FOOD TOUR of Harajuku - Okonomiyaki + Cotton Candy | Tokyo, Japan
In late January of 2019, I flew to Japan to shoot a video with a travel company. My trip was supposed to be only five days, but I extended it to twelve so I would have time to do some sightseeing and food tours on my own time! I’m so glad I did! This country blew my mind from the moment I landed at Narita Airport and my love for it, its beautiful culture, and its sensational food only grew with each passing day. Come along with me on my Japanese adventures!

On my third day in Japan, I headed out on an amazing Kawaii Japanese food tour of the Harajuku area with my friend Asami from Tokyo by Food and Arigato Japan. This is a really unique area of Tokyo that’s known for its imaginative food and bright, vibrant fashions, and Kawaii is basically Japan’s “cute culture,” so all of the foods here are considered cute! I couldn’t wait to start my tour!
My Film Making Kit ►
We started with a stop at Nespace Omotesando Niigatakan, which is a shopping mall in Tokyo. There, we visited a shop selling snacks from the Niigata Prefecture, including over 100 types of rice crackers. We started with sasadango, which is a mochi that’s wrapped in a bamboo leaf. It tasted like matcha and had red bean paste inside. It was nice and sweet, gooey, and cold. I loved it!
Next, I moved on to rice snacks with a chocolate coating. They were like chocolate-covered rice crackers! Then I had some crunchy, edamame-flavored rice snacks, which had lots of edamame flavor and didn’t have much salt on them.
On our way to our next stop, we passed by the first building in Tokyo that was built using concrete in 1927, after an earthquake that occurred in 1923. It looked really modern, like it was just built recently!
Our next stop was a boutique bakery that’s famous for their cronuts, which is a cross between a donut and a croissant. There, I had vanilla ice cream coated in torched honey marshmallow. There was some gooey chocolate on the inside and was the biggest marshmallow I’ve ever had. Even though it was torched, the inside was still really cold! It was like a vanilla s’more, but without the cracker.
Next was the cronut, which had a filling of Marscarpone cheese and ganache. It was very sweet, and the filling felt a lot like a custard. It was phenomenal!
The hot chocolate I had next was very sweet and perfect for such a cold day!
We continued along Urahara Street, which is a pedestrian street with lots of designer clothing shops. It was beautiful. Asami told me that a lot of the buildings had been renovated to look more modern. Our next stop was a restaurant that was hidden in a backstreet that had been painted with lots of artwork.
There, we were given oshibori, which is a wet hand towel given to customers to clean their hands. Asami walked us through the process of using the towel and calling a waiter, and then I learned about Japanese drink-pouring etiquette! We poured each other some beer, which was very nice.
Next, a mixture of flour, cabbage, mochi, scallions, more, was grilled right at our table to make a dish called monjayaki, which had the consistency of scrambled eggs and had a fishy taste from the cat roe. It’s so different from everything else here in Japan!
Then it was up to me to flip the okonomiyaki, which is a savory Japanese pancake containing cabbage, scallions, egg, noodles, cheese, and shrimp. I loved it. Then Asami brushed it with a sauce made from soy sauce, carrots, apple, and onion and topped it with Japanese mayo. There were so many flavors and I loved the texture. It was fatty and delicious, and the shrimp were cooked perfectly! I highly recommend it!
Our last stop was an area known for its Kawaii culture, including clothing for kids and young adults. There, we got some massive, rainbow cotton candy that contains six different flavors! It was way too big for me, so everyone on my tour shared it. It costs roughly 1,000 Yen, or around $10 U.S., so it’s not too bad if you’re sharing it with friends.
I hope you enjoyed my amazing Kawaii Japanese food tour! If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave me a comment below. And please subscribe to my channel!

2016 Japan Trip | Day 6 | Tokyo | Shinjuku | Harajuku | Shibuya
Covered Shinjuku, Harajuku and Shibuya on 2nd day in Tokyo.
We ate lunch at Sinjyukugyoen Ramen Ouka, a halal ramen shop in Shinjuku, 10 minutes walk from Shinjuku Station. They use sea bream based broth which has a unique taste to it. We enjoyed it very much!
After lunch, we went to Harujuku and subsequently Shibuya, to witness the famous Shibuya crossing.
For dinner, we wanted to dine in Gyumon, a halal yakiniku shop but it was fully booked. We used the halalgourmet Japan app and decided to find Hansakaji-san, a Japanese restaurant offering halal shabu-shabu meal.
