Walking on the street of Niagara-On-The-Lake town Easter and Good Friday in Canada

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a town in southern Ontario. It sits on the shores of Lake Ontario, at the mouth of the Niagara River. It's known for its wineries and the summer Shaw Festival, a series of theatre productions. The flower-filled, tree-lined old town features 19th-century buildings, mainly along Queen Street. Near the river, 19th-century Fort George was built by the British to defend against American attacks.
The settlement, known from about 1781 as Butlersburg, in honour of Colonel John Butler, the commander of Butler's Rangers, was renamed West Niagara to distinguish it from Fort Niagara.[3] It was a British military base and haven for pro-British loyalists fleeing the United States during the volatile aftermath of the American Revolution.
Niagara played a central role in the War of 1812. Niagara was taken in the Battle of Fort George by American forces after a two-day bombardment by cannons from Fort Niagara and the American Fleet, followed by a fierce battle. Later in the war, the town was razed and burnt to the ground by American soldiers as they withdrew to Fort Niagara. Undaunted by this setback, often referred to as the burning of Newark, the citizens rebuilt the town after the war, with the residential quarter around Queen Street and toward King Street, where the new Court House was rebuilt using material out of range of Fort Niagara's cannons.

Land for Sale secluded peaceful Oceanfront Property - Shelburne County, Nova Scotia, Canada
147 acres shorefront lot for sale. A gently sloping 300 foot gravel driveway leads from the end of Benham’s road to a unique picturesque shorefront property in Shelburne, Nova Scotia with 1200 feet of outstanding expansive views of Jordan Bay and the open Atlantic. This land fully faces the West so the sunsets are breathtaking. Electricity, telephone and internet lead to the house lot area and could easily be reconnected by contacting Nova Scotia Power, Bell Aliant and or Eastlink. Halfway up the driveway is a hand dug well which provided a family of 5 with clean gravity fed running water year round.
At the foot of the driveway is a parking area for several vehicles and towards the sea there is a clearing that would be ideal for building a seaside dream house or hooking up a mobile home. Further to the south but still within the property bounds is an abandoned A-frame cottage which could be fixed up to serve as temporary lodgings.
Due to the slope and position on the East side of Jordan Bay, the shoreline here has barely changed in the past 50 years. After all this time the old familiar features are still as they were when I was a boy. King Neptune’s Throne sits right at the ocean’s edge - a naturally formed chair that is contoured for amazing comfort. Once seated in this one-of-a-kind outcropping that took countless ages to construct, you realize the blissful privacy of the location, and it’s rugged natural beauty.
Another feature is what I call our mini Rock of Gibraltar - a large outcropping of stone that stands out boldy on our shoreline. The panoramic view on top will make you dizzy with joy.
Both of these structures are contained within this 147 acre lot.
Can you imagine a place where there are no disruptive noises - where there is just the natural sounds of the waves and wind and seagulls and wildlife - a sanctuary of pristine privacy. This is it! My family lived there self-sufficiently for most of the past 5 decades. My uncle turned the forested ground into fertile soil for an ample vegetable garden with tall telephone peas rising 10 feet in the air. Carrots, asparagus, eelgrass potatoes, beans, brussel sprouts, broccoli, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, strawberries - all proudly came out of this garden, feeding our family Spring Summer and Fall. The soil has been naturally fertilized and tilled and weeded over the years and could well be put to good use again. The plant hardiness zone of this area is 6b - rivaling that of the farmlands of southern Ontario.
The area outside of the house lot garden area and road is forested with mostly spruce and and some maple, fir, birch, and tamarack. Pines are rare but a few are there. Towards the back of the lot there are more hardwoods and spruce.

**************************
welcome to gaspereau vineyards. we're located in the heart of the Gaspereau valley.
we're on 40 acres of vines with 35 currently planted and we produce 8 varietals right now.
There's a pretty tight knit community of camaraderie going on in the Nova Scotia Wine industry. Just starting to work with the cool climate varietals and working with what we shouldd be doing in this area has really taken us leaps and bounds ahead.
my name is Gina Haverstock and I'm the winemaker here at Gaspereau Vineyards.
so this time of the year which is fall is the time when we are receiving the grapes and of course processing the grapes and pressing the grapes to get juice to make white wine and processing the grapes to make red wine.
So we're moving more and more toward hand harvesting because it allows us to be a bit more careful with the grapes. And because it's easier for us to sort through them by the cluster than by the individual grapes when they are brought in off the vineyard to our crushpad where they get sorted through for anything that's too ripe, not ripe enough,
so then you can look through and if there's one grape or two grapes that in that cluster it's easy to clip them off and then move on.
We do have our complimentary tasting bar at Gaspereau. One of the most popular varieties would be the L'Acadie Blanc just because everyone wants to compare
between different wineries, different vinyards, and different winemakers.
So L'Acadie Blanc is the dryest white that we produce here at Gaspereau. And it's actually Nova Scotia's signature wine. I say that because about 98% of the vines that grow anywhere in the world actually grow right here in Nova Scotia.
But it first was started in Ontario where the acid actually dropped out of the grape due to its long hot growing season. So one of the pioneers in the wine industry here brought that back and many of the local wineries grow this grape - it flourishes for us.
We actually only make one wine with our L'Acadie Blanc. We make a nice crisp dry white wine that is dry but not piercingly dry. to go well with the seafood and shellfish. When we are fermenting here at Gaspereau Vineyards we like to retain a lot of the aromatics. To do that we actually ferment quite cool.
In addition to L'Acadie, Lucie Kuhlman is a red grape variety that we work with.
At Gaspereau we use it for a few different applications. We do our traditional rose from our Lucie Kuhlman, we a beautiul blend with our Lucie, also feature a gorgeous reserve port with our Lucie Kuhlman. So a very unique sweet lovely red grape.
Lucie Kuhlman is one of the wines that we age 100% in oak barrels because they've been used once or twice before the oak doesn't overpower the fruit.
And here in Nova Scotia we have really elegant fruit flavours and we don't want to overpower them.
Lucie Kuhlman's earthy smokey leathery characteristics lend itself so great to a fine steak or to smoked meats, things like that. It is one of my favorites.
We grow on the upper slope of our vineyard, some of the more sensitive grape varieties, the grape varieties that need a little more heat.
The Vidal is one of them. and vidal we use for two different things. first of all we use if for our crescendo, and that's a sparkling wine that we make here.
It's nice and fresh and fruity bubbly.
It's blended with 15% muscat. Muscat's one of the most aromatic grape varieties we grow in Nova Scotia so the combination makes a really nice refreshing summer drink.
Icewine is a wonderful dessert wine made from frozen grapes. It's not just made from frozen grapes, it's made from grapes that are frozen on the vine. There is a small drop per grape of concentrated sweetness, acidity and flavour, and that is actually what we are harvesting the grapes for. And we don't ferment all the sugar to alcohol so you have this nice luscious sweet dessert wine.
Many of our wines have won awards internationally as well.
This year Seyval Blanc and Lucie Kuhlman our Muscat and Vidas all took gold at the Atlantic Canadian Wine Awards.
We're pretty proud of the double gold that our maple wine brought back at an international taste test in michigan and it was tasted blind. So many of these have been recognized at different levels.
The wine industry in Nova Scotia is really taking off and we're so excited to be a part of it.
We are maturing, so is our soil and our vines, and we're producing some amazing internationally recognized award winning wines.
