Haute baso is an ethical Rwandan fashion brand, designing high-quality local products inspired by Rwandan culture with a global twist. Two young, ambitious, and talented Rwandan fashion designers, Linda Mukangoga and Candy Basomingera, merged their respective brands to create Haute baso in February 2014. Using their passion for fashion as a vehicle for positive change, they work towards advancing women and youth empowerment through training, mentorship programs, and job creation. The brand promotes the traditional Rwandan art form of Imigongo, which consists of stunning black and white, although sometimes colorful, geometrical, and spiral paintings, which keep the country’s traditions alive while also providing artisans with an income.
This video was submitted in response to The Alliance for Artisan Enterprise (AAE), in partnership with the U.S. Department of State Secretary's Office of Global Women's Issues (S/GWI) Artisan Enterprise Multimedia Competition 2015. Life-Changing Trip
Ellen DeGeneres & wife Portia de Rossi spent time this summer in Great Tew in Oxfordshire - UK , Kenya, Rwanda to launch “The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund “ and Tanzania.
.
Ellen has been teasing since her birthday show in January that she and her wife, Portia are heading to Africa for their holiday for a very special reason.
.
In celebration of Ellen’s 60th birthday on 26 January, and her love for animals, Portia gifted Ellen with her own namesake wildlife fund.
.
Combined with Ellen’s absolute love for Dian Fossey’s dedication to animals, Portia added that The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund’s first initiative would be to build a gorilla conservation centre in Rwanda and will form part of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.
Well, the time for Ellen to visit the location which she plans to help has finally come.
The couple’s African adventures began in Kenya to Rwanda to Tanzania and ended back to Kenya
.
Their trip started on a high as they spent time at Soho farm House in Great Tew in Oxfordshire .
They then moved on to Kenya to spend a pit moment at Giraffe Manor
After that they flew to Rwanda, where Ellen and Portia met with President Paul Kagame, the President of the Republic of Rwanda to discuss The Ellen DeGeneres Wildlife Fund’s efforts to build a gorilla conservation centre.
The couple also spent time with the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund and got to witness the breathtaking gorillas they are vying to save, in their natural habitat.
.
Ending their trip on a high, Portia and Ellen spent their final days between Kenya and Tanzania in the Serengeti.
Ellen Degeneres and her wife fly back to Nairobi for conservation of elephants at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust
Upon their return, Ellen thanks all those she and Portia met who made their trip so special, including their trust safari guide, Michael Lorentz.
