Hawaiian Grown TV - Hawaiian Eateries - Segment 1
Hawaiian Eateries began, back in 1979, as a small sandwich shop in Lahaina. Soon people discovered our salads, and the business began to grow. Now our products are served in restaurants, delis, hospitals, schools and supermarkets all over the Islands. The reason for our success? We paid attention to Island tastes and we still do.
You can depend on us for ready-to-serve salads and desserts that capture all the flavor of our unique Island culture. We're your source for authentically spicy Kim Chee and deliciously sweet-sour Namasu. We know what kind of creamy, flavorful potato salads, pasta salads, and cole slaws are flavored for local luncheon plates. Our light, elegant fruit desserts taste delicious in tropical weather.
And we offer you more than tropical flavor. With our products, you save time, and every serving tastes just as fresh and flavorful as if it had been made to order in your own kitchen. That's because we make everything just the way you would, with top quality ingredients and lots of care.
Give your customers the best of the Islands. It's easy, with the help of Hawaiian Eateries -- Hawaii's Fresh Foods.

Hawaiian Grown TV - Taro Brand Bean Sprouts - Factory Tour
After hours of calling, leaving messages, and playing phone tag. Hawaiian Grown TV finally gets in with the Tattori family to see Taro Brand.
HPC Foods, Ltd. was founded in 1946 by Kakuichi Tottori as Honolulu Poi Company. It started as a small poi milling operation with 3 employees and has grown to be one of the states largest poi manufacturers and a leader in the development of taro products.
In the early 1960s the company entered the market of growing sprouts and has become the largest sprouter in Hawaii.
To fully utilize the growing fleet of refrigerated delivery trucks, the company also pursued distribution of products manufactured by other local and mainland companies.
In the 1970s, foreseeing the opportunities in the foodservice industry, HPC Foods entered the cut vegetable and fruit processing industry.
In order to supplement the periodic short supply of raw material, an experimental farm was started in Haleiwa to improve agricultural practices in growing taro.
In 1990, the company name was changed from Honolulu Poi Company, Ltd. to HPC Foods, Ltd. This change symbolizes a commitment to continued growth and diversification in the food industry.
In an effort to promote the use and consumption of taro in Hawaiis modern culture, the company introduced taro products, such as Taro Pancake Mix, Taro Bread Mix, and Hawaiian Poi Powder.
Recognizing the importance of food safety and quality, HPC Foods built a 9,000 square foot Produce Processing Center, which opened in June, 2004.
HPC Foods continues to grow and prosper on the simple philosophy of Quality Customer Service and Products.

Where To Eat In Hawaii 2019 | Ohana Hale Market Place | Food Trip Vlog Hawaii
Wondering where to eat in Hawaii 2019? Food Trip Hawaii?
Honolulu, Hawaii - We recently visited Ohana Hale Marketplace and was amazed by what we saw. There are over a hundred and fifty local Hawaii businesses each with their own specialties.
There were so many we didn’t even know where to start! So in this episode, we tried three local businesses offering different types of food.
Asian Flavors - One of the pioneer local shops in Ohana Hale Marketplace Hawaii. Owned by Ashley, a very hard working, friendly and pleasant lady. This place serves Vietnamese, Thai and Filipino Food. We’ve tried their Lao Sausage and Lechon Kawali. The Lao Sausage was amazing! It’s full of flavor and the balance of fat and meat is perfect. We enjoyed every bite of the Lao Sausage. Their Lechon Kawali on the other hand is out of this world! I’m Filipino, so this dish isn’t new to me, but their version is so good! It was really tasty and the meat was so tender. Their sauce added a different twist making it more delicious! They also serve Pho, Pad Thai, Curry and many other Asian dishes.
Ganesh Dosa - This was recommended by our Indian friend and it didn’t disappoint! They serve Dosa, a South Indian version of Crepe made from fermented rice and lentils. We got the Chef’s Recommendation option and filled our Dosa with Potato Masala, Avocado, Tomato, Jarlsberg Cheese, and Cheese. It was served with coconut chutney and sambar.
Waffle and Berry - Founded by Cali and Jordan. They serve the best waffles in town and the best Acai bowl near me. We’ve tried their Aloha Chocolate Waffle - Three freshly cooked hot chocolate waffles topped with two scoops of vanilla, chocolate syrup, chocolate chips, whipped cream and powdered sugar. The chocolate waffle was a bit crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and was not too sweet! We loved it! Their Acai bowl was the best Acai bowl I’ve had in Hawaii for the (low) price. The fruit servings were very generous. You can add whatever you want without paying extra!
Ohana Hale Marketplace - The largest indoor marketplace in Hawaii. It is located at 333 Ward Ave, Honolulu Hawaii and open 10 to 8PM Mondays through Saturdays and 10 to 5PM on Sundays. It houses 250 retail spaces for local business in Hawaii. By the way, Ohana in Hawaiian means “Family” and Hale means “House” so Ohana Hale Marketplace is more than just an indoor marketplace, it is a place where families can enjoy time together through a wide range of food and beverage choices, gift items, novelty items and many more. It even has a performance area where local artists play and share their music to everyone.
Not in the video, but we’ve also tried the following:
Unagi-don - They serve a big slab of Unagi (Freshwater Eel in Japanese) on a bed of white rice wrapped in the middle with Nori. It’s so delicious! I’ve never tasted anything like it!
Tiny TV’s Ube Soft Serve - Oh my! It’s very yummy! And it’s non-dairy too! This is definitely a must try in Ohana Hale Marketplace. One of the best ice creams in town. It was so good, I forgot I was sharing a cup with my hubby and ate it all! He wasn’t very happy of course.

Hawaiian Grown Kitchen - American Culinary Federation Student Team National Championships with Kapiolani Community College Culinary Team Hawaii - Segment 3
For the last seven months members of KCC culinary department have been training for the American Culinary Federation Student Team National Championships in Florida next month.
Since enrolling in the new Competition 1 class at KCC this last fall, they've practiced the menu they'll prepare for the last one-and-a-half months. Over the course of the last seven months the seven team members have prepared fundraising dinners. One of the dinner raised $15,000 at Roy's Restaurant; members cooked alongside top chefs here and won the Western Regional gold medal and championship in Seattle last month, the first Hawaii team to do so.
However, from July 11 to 13 in Orlando the KCC team must compete with three other teams, all from schools that have been to the nationals before. These top four teams were winnowed down from 400 teams at the state levels.
This competition will be different for they won't have a kitchen to prepare the set menu. Instead they'll have a ballroom, a couple of tables, one stove and two electric ovens and water.
They'll have two chef judges watching their every move, interrupting their concentration with questions, evaluating their knife skills and other techniques. The critique will be extremely thorough - judges will empty the garbage can when the competition is over, checking to see if they threw out anything that could have been used.
Teams will be up against a time clock with deduction of points if teams don't make their serving window precise.
Sixty percent of points will be awarded for taste - the food must taste great. But timing is also key, as is working together smoothly.
When it's all over, judges will offer constructive criticism right after the competition. Results aren't announced for a full day.
Between June 3 and 24, the team will be preparing practice lunches at the college that the public can attend, call Linh Hoang 734-9570 for more information.

Nori with the Bleu Cheese Bacon Double Burger from Mahaloha Burger. There are three locations of Mahaloha Burger on Oahu but this is from the location in the Royal Hawaiian Center Waikiki. The website states that burgers are made with 100% all natural grass-fed Big Island beef and made with no preservatives, antibiotics or growth hormones. For what you get, we think the price is fair. The combo we ordered included a drink and some fries/onion rings (extra).

Hawaiian Grown TV - Island Princess Candies - Promo
Thanks to a sweet inspiration and hard work by its owners, Dr. Michael Purdy and his wife, Gwendolyn (Gwen) Purdy, Island Princess has become one of Hawaii's top manufacturers of specialty macadamia nut products, luscious chocolates and unique gourmet confections. As president of Purdyco International, Ltd., Dr. Purdy oversees Island Princess Macadamia Nut Company, the 1,100-acre orchard and processing facility at Keaau on The Big Island of Hawaii, Island Princess manufacturer and distributor of Island Princess products, and Orchard Heights Winery near Salem, Oregon. Upon completion of his studies at Oregon State University, Dr. Purdy graduated from the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center with a degree in dentistry.
Originally from rural Oregon, Michael and Gwen both grew up as members of large families in the small logging community of Valsetz, where the entire length of the main street was one mile and their four-year high school had a total student body of 29.
In 1983, Michael and Gwen moved to Maui to begin a dental practice. Two years later, Gwen emerged as a successful entrepreneur in her own right, when she opened Maui's Best retail stores. That same year, the Island Princess brand was born when hand-dipping chocolates in front of their delighted customers became a special feature of the retail stores.
The unique Island Princess chocolate treats were an immediate hit with visitors to Maui as well as residents. When candy production expanded into factory space, Michael could be found practicing dentistry by day and manufacturing confections by night, gaining the nickname The Choc Doc.
Island Princess gourmet products became a major draw to consumers in The Islands and beyond, prompting Michael to give up his dental practice in order to focus full time on developing the growing business. Due to the increasing need for a larger labor pool and more convenient shipping, Island Princess relocated to Honolulu in 1989.
The next big step in Island Princess' growth occurred in 1998 with the acquisition of a macadamia nut orchard and processing facility, making Island Princess one of the few companies in Hawaii that grows, processes, manufactures and distributes macadamia nuts and confections. The Island Princess Orchard Estate, located on the slopes of Mauna Kea at Keaau on The Big Island of Hawaii is 1,100 acres of pristine farmland, with ideal natural conditions for growing macadamia nuts of the highest quality and with the richest flavor. In fact, dedication to quality, creativity and service are the keys to Island Princess success story. Our many loyal customers have come to depend upon Island Princess' trademarks of Hawaii-grown macadamia nuts, superior ingredients, innovative recipes and exceptional packaging.
Don't take just our word for it. Island Princess Macadamia Popcorn Crunch was voted the best caramel corn in the United States by National Food Distributors Magazine. Our world-famous Mele Macs are a year-round best seller. If it were possible to stack all of the Mele Macs consumed in one year, they would extend from sea level to the top of Haleakala (over 10,000 feet in elevation), more than 20 times.
With a strong work ethic, vast energy and dynamic leadership on the part of our owners, Island Princess continues to set new standards of excellence.
