Enjoy ethical whale watching in Scotland
Stuck for ideas for your summer holidays this year? Why not take a leaf out of TV naturalist Terry Nutkins' book and go on an ethical whale watching trip! There is so much to see in the British Isles. WSPA went to Mull in search of minke whales, but there are many marine mammals and other sea life to catch sight of and it's a great way to spend the day with your family or friends. Also check out our other videos on ethical whale watching - hope you like them!
This video was produced prior to June 2014, when we were known as the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA). We are now World Animal Protection:

A group of orcas appeared very close to the shore of a pod in Scotland- leaving speechless the visitors watching them.
The beautiful animals were recorded swimming, getting as closer to the shore as possible, in South Nesting Bay, Shetland Mainland, Scotland, on 9 of July.
Nick Littlefair, who took the video, was in the area doing the ‘ultimate Shetland tour’, along with a guide and seven other travellers.
He could see the orcas from far away for some time- but when he realised they were getting close to the shore, he decided it was time to start recording.

Killer Whale/orca and calf swimming rapidly towards me, UK
One of my first encounters of orcas. Whilst working in Shetland I got a tip off that they had been spotted. So I tried to get ahead of them and wait. After a while they appeared and came straight past me. I think they were hunting due to the speed and moments before they got to me, I saw a seal and a otter in the water. Amazing to see in the UK.
Scotland, Whales, Whitby, U K April 2017
The link provided will take you to a slideshow of our trip to Edinburgh [ed-in-bra] Scotland, Wales and Whitby. Our trip was inspired in part by the Stars TV show, “Outlander” and incentivized by an exceptionally priced travel package.
We were fortunate to travel with our friends Bryan & Tammie (who happen to be Duke’s) for the first week; starting out in Edinburgh, Scotland and an “Outlander Tour”, followed by a tour of the Edinburgh Castle, then on to Kingussie, Fort Williams, (the Caringorms), and Glen Coe, meeting Archie the Highland Bull along the way, and hiking to the waterfalls, meeting reindeer and red deer on our travels in addition to a brief stop off at Loch Ness. We then headed back to Edinburgh to drop off the Duke’s, then off to Conway, Wales.
In Conway, Kelly and I stayed inside the castle walls hiking across them through the day as well as the Conway Castle itself. Touring Snowdonia National Park, including the Bodnant Gardens, the colorful cotages of Portmeirion Village, and the slate mountains and mines before heading to Whitby, Yorkshire.
Whitby, a beach town, proved to be quite a stair-stepping exercise. Our room was on the fourth floor (79 stair steps) in addition, there were 199 steps leading to the Abbey of Whitby. The hills of Yorkshire were covered with fields of mustard, a beautiful blanket of yellow. We scoured the beaches of Robin Hood’s Bay for fossils and rocks before making our way back to Edinburgh. We also stopped along the way at the little town of Jedburgh who’s claim to fame is a house where Mary Queen of Scots stayed for four weeks.
