This is a flyby of the famous and beautiful Uvdal stave church done with a tiny mini-helicopter some years ago. Of course, one should NOT touch the optical zoom when filming out of an open helicopter like this. That's what I realized afterwards.
So the footage is slightly seasick, I'm afraid. But you get to see the church and also some of the Uvdal valley.

Uvdal medinė bažnyčia / Uvdal stave church
Uvdal Stave Church is situated at Uvdal in Nore and Uvdal municipality, which is in the valley Numedal in Norway. The stave church was originally
constructed just after the year 1168, which we know through dendrochronological dating of the pine tree used during the construction. The logs
were not completely dry when the construction took place. The church was made on top of the remains of previous church on the site, thought
to have been made with the use of imbedded corner column technology during the turn of the 11th century. This we know from an archeological
excavation that took place during 1978. Churches made during the 12th century were usually very small, perhaps no more than 40 square meters
in its footprint. They were therefore often expanded, even during the Middle Ages and certainly just before and after the Reformation, which took
place during 1537 in Norway.
The nave of the church was first expanded to the west during the Middle Ages, when the original apse of chancel was also removed and the
chancel itself elongated. Again, during that period, an extra center column was added to construction. The chancel was torn down again in 1684,
when a new and wider chancel was made. This had the same width as the nave. Then, during the period 1721--1723, the church was made into
cruciform. A new ridge turret had to be made, to fit the new cruciform. Later, in 1819, a new vestry was added to the north wall of the chancel.
Uvdal Stave Church - stavkirke - interior
For more Uvdal click on user nadflah. THIS is an interior video from The Uvdal Stave Church, a small wooden medieval stave church from the small valley of Uvdal in Numedal in Norway. The stave church was originally constructed just after the year 1168, which we know through dendrochronological dating of the pine tree used during the construction. The logs were not completely dry when the construction took place.
The church is a small and very beautifully preserved classic Norwegian stave church. The interior decoration is in ancient Norwegian style and the symbols are both christian and non-christian. You know, you should really visit the whole of the Numedal valley, which has the largest collection of beautiful medieval wooden buildings in Norway :D
It is forbidden to shoot video or take pictures of the interior. This video was made some years ago as a cooperative project between Fortidsminneforeningen (the owner) and Numedalsnett (a local internet resource). We were allowed to shoot the interior with small production means and a minimum of lightning.

Uvdal stavkirke - the Uvdal Stave Church - an original Numedalsnett video - HQ/HD
Use the HQ or HD button! This REPUBLISHED recording is from an old Numedalsnett mini-DV video tape. We have tested a format conversion, tried to rework the video colors just a little bit, and - at the same time - we have sort of revisited the interior of the Uvdal Stave Church, built around 1168 AD.
Please watch this interior!
The church has one of the most beautiful interiors of the preserved medieval Norwegian wooden stave churches. The video recording was done for Numedalsnett many years ago. The owner - Fortidsminneforeningen in Norway - said OK to the shooting, but they wouldn't allow much lights or electricity. The church itself has no electricity installed.
Enjoy the interior of one of Norway's true treasures :-)
Recording date: The summer of 2000.
Recording location: Interior of the Uvdal Stave Church, Nore and Uvdal, Norway.
Recorded music: Ulf Meyn, composing and performing on the guitar.
Recorded images and editing: Erik Meyn, but many years ago.
Recording gadget: A small low budget Numedalsnett SONY mini-DV camera.

Borgund stave church
Built around 1180 and is dedicated to the Apostle Andrew. The church is exceptionally well preserved and is one of the most distinctive stave churches in Norway. Some of the finest features are the lavishly carved portals and the roof carvings of dragons's heads. The stavchurches are Norway's most important contribution to world architecture and Norway's oldest preserved timber buildings.
NEW VISITORS CENTRE - The Center offers exhibitions about the history of stave churches in Norway and their role in the Middle Ages. Restaurant, souvenir shop and quiet rom.
