Notodden is a city and municipality in Telemark county, Norway. It is part of the traditional region of Øst-Telemark. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Notodden. Notodden was separated from the municipality of Heddal in 1913 to become a separate city and municipality. On 1 January 1964, the rural municipalities of Heddal and Gransherad were merged into Notodden to form a new enlarged municipality. Notodden is on the shore of Heddalsvatnet lake, and the Tinn River runs through the town into the lake. 1. Heddal Stave Church Notodden
Heddal stave church is a stave church located at Heddal in Notodden municipality, Norway. The church is a triple nave stave church and is Norway's largest stave church. It was constructed at the beginning of the 13th century. After the reformation, the church was in a very poor condition, and a restoration took place during 1849–1851. However, because the restorers lacked the necessary knowledge and skills, yet another restoration was necessary in the 1950s. The interior is marked by the period after the Lutheran Reformation in 1536–1537 and is for a great part a result of the restoration that took place in the 1950s.

Heddal Open Air Museum is an open-air museum located in the village of Heddal at Notodden in Telemark, Norway.Heddal Open Air Museum is located near the historic Heddal stave church. Heddal Museum has various buildings representative of the history of local farming dating from the Middle Ages and up to the 1930s. Fyrileivstugu, a living room interior dating from 1932, was transferred to Heddal Museum in 1990. It was the work of noted wood carver and rosemaling artist, Olav Fyrileiv who was a Telemark native.In 2010, Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum, which is located nearby at Rjukan in Tinn, took over operational management of Heddal Open Air Museum. Gaustatoppen is the highest mountain in the county Telemark in Norway which lies in the municipality Tinn and Hjartdal. The view from the summit is impressive, as one can see an area of approximately 60,000 km², one sixth of Norway's mainland. The mountain is popular for downhill skiing in winter, and competitions have been held on its slopes. These competitions include the Norseman triathlon, billed as the world's most brutal iron-distance triathlon. It starts in Eidfjord and finishes at the top of Gaustatoppen. The summit is accessible on foot in the summer, on a rocky pathway of medium difficulty, although the southern side of the mountain is very dangerous and inaccessible. The wreckage of an airplane crash lies there, as it is too difficult to remove it.

Visit Norway and Rjukan in Telemark this summer! Rjukan is a Unesco World Heritage site. Read more:

Rjukan is located near Hardangervidda National Park. It offers great outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, skiing, fishing and horseback riding. The site is also famous for its industrial history and the WW2 sabotage action at Vemork powerstation.

Norway - Borgund stavkirke (stave church)

Borgund dates back to the end of the 12th century. It had a strategic location in Sogn og Fjordane County on the old road connecting the eastern and western parts of Norway. This is an absolutely stunning beauty. It is the best preserved of all stave churches and it looks like a stave church should.
