Unit 731 is a museum and historical landmark in Pingfang, Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. It is the site where the Imperial Japanese Army committed war crimes against innocent Chinese civilians during WW2. Filmed and edited by Thomas Clark in September 2018.
Wood Carving Museum exhibit in Harbin, China
This is one of the exhibits at the Wood Carving Museum in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China. The museum has wood carvings and paintings on display and is free with a passport or for children. The exhibits are modern, latest are only from 1993, most are from only 2010, It's not very well known but still worth a look to see the carving skills of Chinese crafts people, they are all hand carved and you can see the tools on display too. The museum is in Harbin in Heilongjiang Province. Heilongjiang is China's northernmost province and is north of North Korea. It has been a site for the region's power struggles for thousands of years between the Japanese, Koreans, Chinese, Mongolians, several tribes and Russians. Harbin itself began as a Russian city.

Hegang City is located in the northeast of Heilongjiang Province and in the transition zone between Lesser Khingan Range and Sanjiang Plain. Also, Hegang City and Russian Judaic Autonomous Oblast are facing each other separated by Heilongjiang River. Yanjiang Park in Luobei port, Canaan Star City, and Heilongjiang Museum show historical and cultural features of China and Russia and witnessed the friendly exchanges and historical contacts among three major ethnic groups. Heilongjiang River, the boundary river between China and Russia, is one of the longest non-pollution boundary rivers, and it crosses Lesser Khingan Range. In addition, it is where the Siberian tiger entered China. Also, Hegang City got the title of “best landscape cultural tourist resort in China” and “the most promising tourist city in China”. There are several tourist attractions such as large rivers, huge forests, wetlands, agricultural resources, the three gorges in Longjiang River, ski resort in Fenghuang Mountain, Yulin Shooting Range, Ice Park in Lake Heli, and cross-border self-driving tour between Russia and China.

Harbin's Unit 731 Museum (China)
Harbin's Unit 731 Museum / 731罪证陈列馆 which stands on the site of Unit 731, a secret biological and chemical warfare testing center run by the Japanese army during World War II. Prisoners of 731, mostly Chinese, were subjected to horrific testing, including forced exposure to extreme cold and infectious diseases such as the plague and anthrax. During its less than ten years of operation, thousands of prisoners died at the hands of the researchers in Unit 731.
Closes at 16:00 (last entry is at 15:00), is closed from 11:00-13:00 for lunch and the museum is completely closed on Mondays.
It is about an hourlong bus ride from the city center (Bus 338 or the slower 343 from near the train station on Tielu Jie, get off at 双拥路 and walk around the corner to the right).

More foreign tourists visiting Unit 731 ruins in NE China
A site that was used by Unit 731, a Japanese military unit that conducted illegal experiments on human subjects during World War II, has become a popular tourist destination.
Foreign tourists in particular have visited the site, located in northeast China's city of Harbin, in greater number this year. Many of the tourists have expressed shock and anger at the atrocities committed by the unit.

Across the river, Sun Island Park is famed for year-round ice sculptures.
Unit 731: Inside look at Japan’s covert biological warfare unit
As China marks the 70th anniversary of the victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression this year, the site that housed Unit 731 in Harbin in Heilongjiang Province has been opened to the public. Unit 731 was a covert biological warfare base established by the Japanese army and was responsible for some of the worst war crimes committed by Japanese troops.

A museum that revisits the wartime atrocities conducted by Japanese military unit 731 during World War II opened in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province on Saturday, the 70th anniversary of Japan's World War II surrender.

China's northern ice city of Harbin has built its tourism sector into a 10-billion-U.S. dollar-level industry, with its renown as one of the country's top winter destinations continuing to draw in huge numbers of visitors.
As the capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Harbin has been making good use of its ecological resources including ice and snow, and forests and wetlands, in an effort to build itself into a top-notch, all-season tourist location, while also being a popular international tourist attraction in winter.
Tourism became Harbin's second 10-billion-U.S. dollar-level industry in 2016. The city received more than 77.12 million tourists in 2017 and made a total revenue of over 117 billion yuan (around 17 billion U.S dollars).
It has gained international attention for its increasingly popular winter extravaganza, the International Ice and Snow Festival, which features elaborate ice sculptures, competitions and a plethora of winter sports.
Every winter, visitors from home and overseas flock to Harbin, increasing consumption, creating jobs and greatly stimulating the local economy.
Diverse winter activities have been appearing since Harbin held its first ice lantern fair in 1963, with the first ice and snow festival following in 1985.
The Harbin Ice and Snow World, a theme park with snow sceneries and magnificent ice sculptures, was built by the local government in 1999 to welcome in the new millennium.
Covering an area of 800,000 square meters, the park has helped advance ice and snow art in China into a major stage which features elaborate modern designs and mechanization, and continues to impress visitors from all around the world.

Text description provided by the architects. MAD Architects unveils the completed Harbin Opera House, located in the Northern Chinese city of Harbin. In 2010, MAD won the international open competition for Harbin Cultural Island, a master plan for an opera house, a cultural center, and the surrounding wetland landscape along Harbin’s Songhua River. The sinuous opera house is the focal point of the Cultural Island, occupying a building area of approximately 850,000 square feet of the site’s 444 acres total area. It features a grand theater that can host over 1,600 patrons and a smaller theater to accommodate an intimate audience of 400.
